Paul Bravery got a reaction from tom d in Trapping Controls?
Hi Jim et al,
I realise that Jim's post is from 3 years ago, but I'd like to share my trapped files produced in the latest version of AD.
I have no idea if actual trapping controls for individual objects has been implemented, perhaps I missed that memo!
However, as you will see from both the AD file and the PDF, I have achieved editable trapping for individual objects by using 'Darken' on the objects that I need to trap and layering them above the object that they trap into.
The varying amounts of trap is a function of the amount of stroke applied to the objects.
The black cat below the trapping objects has the original object shapes knocking out of it in white, so only the stroke will trap.
I have been using Illustrator since AI5.5 on a PPC Mac. I've noticed that some designers who use Illustrator use this same method of trapping also, even though overprinting strokes is the standard!
Just thought this might be a convenient workaround for those who produce for print and need to supply trapped spot colour PDF files…

Paul Bravery got a reaction from PSDfield in Affinity for Linux
Hi Andy,
Has anyone from Serif spoken to Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu?
They include commercial software in their Software Centre, unlike most GNU/Linux distros which adhere to FOSS.
Paul.

Paul Bravery got a reaction from Redsandro in Affinity for Linux
Hi guys,
An interesting vlog response to Adobe being asked to port to Linux: https://youtu.be/KFmQMbastjc
It might be an interesting exercise to see how many Windows users would consider switching to Linux if they could use Affinity software and have the same Affinity user experience on that platform…

Paul Bravery got a reaction from pokimon in Editable Text in EPS?
As TonyB replied, PDF text handling in Illustrator has been a hassle for as long as I've been a graphic designer, this includes PDF files exported from InDesign – except when the original is constructed in Illustrator and then saved as PDF…

File->Export will also allow you to export an image as a PDF. I think that the Export Persona is intended for more complex tasks.

Paul Bravery got a reaction from pixeldroid in What's the skinny red outline around some of my shapes in Affinity Designer?
Hi robertpastrana,
It's a feature for showing 'snapping candidates'.
It can be turned off if you wish, see attached screen shots:
Hope this helps,
Paul.

Paul Bravery reacted to Ralf_Maeder in Spot color separation preview
I would wish for a way to preview color separation without the need to use Adobe software or other commercial third party software. Another solution could be a new application from Affinity for this purpose.

Paul Bravery reacted to Dmitri Rabounski in Again: a problem with Affinity Photo print manager
Dear Paul,
The aforementioned problem with Affinity Photo print manager does not depend on the method defining paper size. I tried different ways with the same bad result. See two following step-by-step screenshots where I predefined A4 paper size, for example.
So... setting up A4 paper
We obtain... the same non-aligned form:
I did not check this issue on EPSON pro-grade printers just because having no EPSONs in the use. But all that has been said above is true for Canon pro-grade printers. Supposedly, the problem is hidden in that fact that Affinity Photo print manager does not properly export information from the printer drivers. Developers of Affinity Photo should know better the source of this problem. But, surely, Affinity Photo MUST work properly with two leading pro-grade families: Canon and EPSON. Think: editing in Affinity Photo then printing from Photoshop thus purchasing Adobe license for only printing purposes... this way would not be considered as something healthy...
This issue is important. Believe me. This is because, due to the above problem, Affinity Photo still remains an "editing only" software without a possibility of professional quality printing... Surely, this gap should be removed by a substantial upgrade of Affinity photo print manager. Otherwise how to compete with Photoshop without a possibility of normal printing?
Sincerely -- Dmitri

Hi Vitalspark,
There is an open source project named Darktable for macOS and Linux.
It is under development for Windows.
It might be worth a look.

Hi Kads, and welcome to the forum.
I'm sorry to hear about your trouble with Affinity for Windows. For a refund, contact affinityreturns@serif.com. You can return an Affinity product within 14 days. The specifications to the computer is definitely a major piece for complex software to run on it.
Have you heard about the iPad version that recently launched? Hopefully, that will work out for you instead.

Paul Bravery reacted to Kads in Introduce Yourself
Hello, I'm Kads from Australia
I am a keen photographer and was really looking forward to using Affinity, however, During my downloading process I got a message pop up half way through, saying
Set up Detected the following Problems
*64 bit CPU not found
So I clicked here, and found out that Affinity will not work on my PC...
I am so devastated because I have seen some awesome photos produced from Affinity
Now I have to go through the drama of a refund as I paid via PayPal
Why don't Affinity make a version for a 32 bit Computer??...
I cant afford Photoshop & lightroom, as I don't want to subscribe...
can anyone advise me on what to do now?
thankyou

Paul Bravery reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Photo for iPad launched at Apple WWDC
Affinity Photo for iPad – the first fully-featured, truly professional photo editing tool to arrive on Apple’s tablet – is now on sale.
We were proud to be able to launch it during the keynote at Apple’s WWDC in San Jose on 5 June – the highlight of Apple’s global product launch calendar.
If you saw that, or if you use Affinity Photo already, you’ll understand why it’s the choice of thousands of professional photographers, retouchers and editors around the world.
We think Affinity Photo for iPad redefines photo editing once again, by bringing almost all the features in the Mac version to your iPad, so you can take all that photo editing power with you wherever you go.
The new version is tailored to harness the explosive power of the iPad’s hardware and touch capabilities, and is compatible with iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Pro 10.5-inch and iPad Pro 12.9-inch. Please note this is not the list of iPads that the App Store suggests it will work with, see this post for an explanation.
We expect this to be the biggest launch we’ve ever had and even better, Affinity Photo for iPad is priced at an introductory discount of more than 30 per cent in the App Store – so for now, you pay £19.99 / $19.99USD / 21,99€.

It has been often and frequent. most of the time im working with curves adjusting nodes when it happens but not always. today i have been using it for about 4 hours and i have had 7 crashes this far. love the program but this is getting frustrating.

Hi Steve,
Just make sure that you are using the same Apple ID as you use for your old MBP:
You should then be able to download/install your purchases from the 'Purchased' tab in the App Store.

Paul Bravery got a reaction from Fixx in AutoTrace (convert raster image to vector)
Having tried various tracing apps or features in other drawing apps, including Adobe Illustrator, I have invariably returned to just using the pen tool to hand trace whatever I needed — the extra time was always worth it for the end result.

Paul Bravery reacted to R C-R in On iMAc, Affinity Photo "quitting unexpectedly"
Like for all Mac App Store (MAS) purchases, inside the app is a "_MASReceipt" folder with a receipt file in it. The OS uses this file to run up to five checks to verify that that specific Mac has been authorized to run the app. If it has not, the app won't run.
If you uninstall the app, the receipt file is deleted along with the rest of the app, but since it (the app) is still tied to that Apple ID, once you sign in to the MAS app with that same ID, as Paul mentioned you can download a new copy from the Purchased section. Because that copy includes a receipt file keyed to that Mac, it is already authorized so you don't have to do that as a separate step.
So normally, the only time you have to worry about authorization as a separate step is if you copy the app from one Mac to another or if you erase the drive or install a new one & that changes the UUID of the Mac.
