Hi DreamThinkLive,
So would tearing off the Swatches or Colour tab (as you can in Photoshop®) to access the eyedropper tool at the same time as the brushes (see below) be what you want?
Alternatively, you can tear off the Brushes tab so that it's always visible.
If you are requesting that the Eyedropper Tool be placed in the main Tools palette with an associated keyboard shortcut, then you can add this as a Feature Request.
Paul.

Hi DreamThinkLive,
The Eyedropper Tool is part of the Swatches tab, as well as the Colour tab:
Once selected, just drag it over the area you want to sample:
Once sampled, click the foreground or background indicator to load the colour:
Is this what you are asking?

Hi,
I know you're trying to keep this limited to Affinity Photo but it's the one feature AD is lacking for me. I work designing websites for e-commerce and I often need to cut out product images from white backgrounds. The work isn't complicated enough to require a dedicated piece of photo software like AP so I'm not going to spend an additional 40 quid for it. I'd like to see it added to AD.
This feature is literally the last thing that's keeping me from removing Photoshop completely from my mac.
Thanks
Alternatively, the path shape can have your image pasted inside, thereby creating a mask for the image.

Hi aki_ingol,
It will most likely be a language support issue yet to be sorted out: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/4782-language/?fromsearch=1

Paul...I think I got it
I just went into AFFINITY, then Colour Profile, and drop down menu had it there!
If it's in the menu, then it should good right?
Paul
That's right.
As Callum said, just make sure your document is CMYK & you have selected your profile.
You can either convert the individual document to the profile you need:
Or make the CMYK profile your default setting for all your CMYK files, in Affinity's settings:

Hi Paul (great name, by the way! ;))
No problem, sharing info is the purpose of this forum.
Not all graphic designers would know how to install .icc files & how to change default profiles.
This is the Library I refer to, in the 'root directory', within a folder called CMYK Profiles which is within /Library/Colorsync/Profiles:
Obviously, the name of the Hard Drive will be whatever your Hard Drive is named.
The system will probably ask you for your admin password.
Cheers,
Paul.

Hi krunberry,
Welcome to the forum.

Hi Paul,
Yes, you can download the profile to your Mac.
Make sure it's saved to the Libray folder that has your other CMYK .icc files.
When you start up Affinity this time, the GRAcol profile should appear in the drop down menu.

Hi all,
I've taken a PSD file (exported from CS6) and imported it into Affinity Photo. Although the import worked fine and all layers/groups are as expected, I've found all layers that had the drop shadow layer effect applied from Photoshop have had the effect merged into the layer in Affinity Photo. So I can't remove or edit the layer effect.
This is the only layer effect that the PSD uses so I can't tell if it would do this for all layer effects or if it's specific to drop shadow.
Is this meant to happen or is there a way I can prevent it from flattening the layer in future imports?
Thanks.
Hi Dxruss,
The Photoshop drop shadow layer effect can be separated out to become an independent layer in Photoshop CS6, maybe that might help?
Paul.

Paul, that only holds for PDFs and .ai files. The reason being, having the replacement fonts in advance helps with text positioning. A more general Find and Replace for fonts (and other attributes) is something we plan to add later.
Thanks, Dave and apologies Johnny!
I didn't realise until later that you have to manually change font substitution to the text layers after opening files that are other than .ai/.pdf files!
Paul.

Hi Johny,
Affinity has the same feature.
As soon as the file opens, the fonts warning dialog has drop down menus for choosing alternative typefaces for each missing font.
Paul.

Thanks, Patrick.
I will be home in about 7-8 hours, I don't have Affinity at work.
I'll look at the files then.
Cheers,
Paul.

I set up a mostly text-only doc in Designer for layout; used an actual paid-for HTF font, and it looks great on screen. When printing, or exporting to PDF, I get postscript hash text instead of the font/text. Font was manually activated using Font Explorer, and I've had zero issues with the font or printing the font using Illustrator in the past. Also tested the font using TextEdit, no issues there, either. Any idea? This is as close to a deal breaker as it gets for me; seems unwieldy/antiquated to convert text to curves to print or export.
Hi patrickfoster,
Could you post the PDF & the AD files here for us to inspect?
Thanks,
Paul.

Affinity does support ASE files (Adobe swatch exchange).
Thanks, MEB, I'm not sure why it didn't work for me – I'll give it another shot when I get home!
-
Hi patrickfoster,
Is your laser printer PostScript compatible?
If not, you may need to make your file RGB, instead of CMYK.

The best way to understand the Pantone Matching System, is to see a Color Bridge book of swatches. It shows the solid Pantone colour beside it's CMYK equivalent & helps to illustrate the difficulty in getting an accurate match when using CMYK exclusively – sometimes, only a solid Pantone ink will do the job! Thanks Paul. I've never had a good understanding of the need for either Pantone or spot colors, when they should, or should not be used, which is probably good since the client I do 99% of my work for requires CMYK only.

Hi ronnyb,
No, I have to convert ase files to clr.
Paul.

I forgot to add, both apps are necessary for converting two different swatch formats. ColorBook can't handle .ase swatches, the other app can. Neither can handle .ai swatches.Paul, could you be more specific about what these two apps do with your color palettes? Are you saying that the Pantone colors are converted to CMYK but retain the Pantone name in the list? Is this achieved with ColorBook Importer and then Color Palette Importer makes them useable in Affinity?

Hi Bobsummit,
Yes it's possible.
The command is 'Invert' in Affinity Photo (⌘I).
