  2. Hi PEKA62, Do you also have Adobe Illustrator? If so, have you tried opening the PDF in Illustrator? What happens to the fonts then? Opening a PDF in Affinity Photo is similar to opening in Illustrator, the fonts will be missing if you don't have them installed. I am away from my Mac now, so I can't check if this works, but try the 'Place' command for the PDF, this embeds the PDF into a layer which can be rasterised.
  3. Adobe's .ai format is proprietary. No other software can use Adobe's code base. It's not a case of Serif not wanting to integrate a .ai export, it's a case of Serif not being able to.
  4. Hi Lamont, The quick shapes are in the tools at the left: Example of a rectangle quick shape selected, in it's own layer below everything else & coloured blue: Hope this helps. Paul.
  5. Hi Oval, I agree that my business card PDF is of a simple construction. However, I was mainly questioning the need for the recipient of a finished PDF file to edit it further & to such an extent that the layers structure needed to be maintained. In my previous decade of PDF workflow, with Adobe CS, most of my files were assembled in InDesign, sometimes with linked vector & raster files included. Any PDF exported from InDesign does not maintain InDesign's layer structure when opened in Illustrator. If my PDF files needed corrections or amendments, the onus was on me to edit my original files & re-supply an amended PDF to the recipient, it was never intended for the recipient to open my PDF in Illustrator & make changes. The only time that my PDF files were needed to be opened in Illustrator, was when they were sent to a Chinese manufacturer who had a different workflow. In this case, I would ensure that all the text in the files was converted to paths to avoid font conflicts. Paul.
  6. - Overprint black, how do I access the control for this feature (choose on/off - stroke/fill)? This is the first time I have not been able to find a new feature. Please advise. I found it! Didn't realise it was a very basic on/off choice for exporting to PDF with no control of the object's actual properties…
  7. I agree, jmac. My new employer has an in house marketing department, where the guy in charge uses Adobe Illustrator CS6, I've sent him a PDF (exported from AD beta) of my new business card to try out in Illustrator & he's happy with it's importability including the Pantone yellow spot colour. PDF attached. BC-Paul-Affinity.pdf
  8. Hi evtonic3, Can you upload an example of the type of file you are referring to, please? Preferably the original .afdesign file & a PDF exported, using the default PDF for print setting. Paul.
  9. Hi evtonic3, If you send a vector PDF, it is editable in Illustrator. If it uses fonts that the recipient does not have, then that will be a problem for them because if the fonts are licensed you are not permitted to send the entire set for someone else to use. Paul.
  10. Why do they have to recreate all layers? A PDF can be opened in Illustrator & then saved as an Illustrator file, if required.
  11. Hi evtonic3, I think the agency may be a bit pedantic with their requirements. If you export to PDF for print, it opens fine in Illustrator - if there are any unsupported effects, they will rasterise. Paul.
  12. Hi Ingo, It may work out to be more cost effective to check out paid font converting software, I tried a free version without success, so I can't recommend a particular brand because I haven't tried any yet. So search on line for Mac font conversion apps, so you can convert them to OpenType or TrueType format. I have the complete set of SGI fonts from Silicon Graphics, but they don't install because they are PS Type 1 from 1999! Paul.
  13. Hi VectorCat, The last time I edited text in AD, I found that if I had the selection pointer active I could double click the text frame & my pointer would switch to the text frame tool, with an active I bar in the text frame. Hope this helps. Paul.
  14. Hi Patchwork, I'm using a late 2012 iMac, 16 GB RAM, 1TB Fusion drive, 512 MB Nvidia graphics. Mac OS X El Capitan. No problems so far.
  15. Hi Annick, It's not implemented in the MAS version yet. You also need the Customer Beta installed & it is available as a Photos exrension: https://s3.amazonaws.com/affinity-beta/download/Affinity+Photo+Customer+Beta.dmg Hope this helps, Paul.
  16. Hi aki_ingol, How old are your PS CE fonts? As Mac OS X evolves, legacy PS fonts gradually lose compatibility. It's easy to overlook the fact that fonts are also software. At my last place of employment, our Macs needed to have the PS fonts updated or checked for compatibility with the upgraded OS & apps. Paul.
  17. Hi jsmacdonald, The Photos Extension is not a separate app for purchase. It is a feature that will be in the next free update to the paid version. If you purchase the current version from the Mac App Store, you can then install the latest Customer Beta of AP, download from here: Photo & run it along side the purchased version from the Mac App Store. This Beta version has the Photos extension, so you can choose Affinity Photo Beta as the external editor for Photos, see screen shots below. Hope this helps, Paul.
  18. Hi zookirb, I'm finding Apple's Fontbook to be perfectly adequate in El Capitan, for my purposes. In a production environment, I've used Suitcase Fusion. One annoying bug I've noticed with Suitcase is that it populates the Trash with "Rescued Items" on start up or after a restart. I have been unable to find a reason for this, so I uninstalled the trial version on my iMac & continue to use Fontbook without any issues so far. Paul.
  19. Hi HarryA, Basically, the orange objects will appear white, so you can select the layers that have those white objects that you know are orange & change them back to an orange colour. Alternatively, if you also have Illustrator, you can convert the LAB spot colour orange objects to CMYK orange & re-save the Illustrator file before importing it in to Affinity. Paul.
  20. Hi HarryA, The orange coloured objects in the .ai file may be a Pantone spot orange, using LAB colour space instead of CMYK or RGB. I believe that better handling of LAB based spot colours is planned for a later version of AD & AP. Paul.
  21. Hola budaloco, Tengo gusto de su estilo. ¡Esto es muy impresionante, hombre! Paul.
