  1. Hi creatorsite,

Affinity Designer is for vector drawing/text & Affinity Photo is for raster image manipulation.

Having said that, Affinity Designer is a hybrid app with pixel based features as well.

Affinity Photo also works seamlessly with Affinity Designer, in that the vector components are retained sharp & can keep their sharpness when scaled.

The thing that determines the jaggedness or otherwise is what resolution at print size you choose for any file export (preferably between 150 - 300 dpi).

I have both Designer & Photo, which I highly recommend you to purchase.

    Paul.

  2. Hi.  I am in the tall grass here and could use some advice. My frame of reference is Omnigraffle and Visio, with a little photoshop and pixelmatr thrown in.

I have a project to create large circular diagrams that have 365 equal marks on the outside of the circle, twelve  full 30 degree wedges on the inside, and 64 marks on the inside of the outer rim, with all three elements aligned at a single point. There would be other graphical elements, but these are the ones I would want to automate at least the alignment for. Will I have to draw each mark manually? Can I get designer to space them evenly/exactly for me? Is there another tool to use?

    Thanks.

    Hi Ed,

This thread may be of use to you, please let me know if it is: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/9472-text-on-a-path-anomaly/?p=40030

    Paul,

  3. How can I save a file from affinity photo to jpg (300 dpi). Right now when I am export to jpg, the dpi is 96.

    Hi Roydesign,

You will need to check what size your .afphoto file is by choosing Resize Document:

You may need to change the dpi first and then export:

    The exported JPEG file:

    Hope this helps.

    Paul.

  4. Our Freehand import code does not currently attempt to import text - quite simply because there's an awful lot of code required to make the text import work and even if we get it to read in correctly, it will be formatted differently by our text layout engine compared to Freehand... So it does have value, but it's not trivial and it's unlikely to work perfectly in reality - so we focused our attention on other areas of the program instead... There's obviously scope to revisit this and add it in the future, but for the files that we received during beta testing while we were adding the Freehand importer, the vast majority of all files comes in successfully (by this, I mean that the files we received and used to build our importer obviously weren't text-heavy and it didn't seem like too much of a trade-off that text was not implemented yet)

Leigh, the file should work if you add the extension .fh11  - Freehand had a novel thing of not adding its own extension when you saved files so you got a lot of extension-less files! :S  [EDIT] - Ha, Paul beat me to it - thanks, Paul! :D

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Thanks, MattP.

That no extension thing is a hangover from the old Mac days when extensions weren't necessary. ;)

  5. Alan, thank you so much for your reply. Nah, it's not the same. What's going on? I want a full screen with a floating HUD! I now have a useless small screen. This is hopeless! Can't be that hard...

    Hi Colin,

Perhaps you can suggest what you want in Feature Requests, I don't know of any other group of commercial software devs who are so keen to please.

As far as refunds go, it would be through Apple as your purchase is from the App Store — Check your emailed receipt from Apple.

    Paul.
