  1. February 2017 and still no easy way to define arrowheads on the ends of a path, which are oriented according to the path's endpoint tangent line. :-(
  2. Hi all, I have two concerns regarding the grid and the "Grid and Axis Manager". On what kind of measurement logic is the automatic grid based on? It seams that it never fits the scene. A grid is from my point of view a tool to get objects alined on the canvas in regards to proportion, distance, margins, etc. But if a grid, like the automatic one, seams to behave arbitrary it brakes with its own right to exist. For example: I want to design some icons for a device like the Mac and I create a canvas of 1024x1024 pixel and turn the grid on, it will never ever divide the canvas into main lines in powers of two. If I use the metric system, it will never ever give me a grid that is in decimal power. This makes no sense and it forces me to open the Grid and Axis Manager on every new Design. Changing the values inside the Grid and Axis Manager are directly reflected to the canvas if set via a slider. But sliders are sometimes tedious when a specific value is needed (especially for Trackpad users). Entering a value manually is often faster and much more reliable. But a value entered directly is not reflected to the canvas. Even worse: Entering a value and not hitting enter or focusing on another input field does not apply the value. I found myself often in that situation that I have configured the horizontal subdivision value, then switched to the vertical subdivision field, entered a value there and hit the "close" button. The last value was ignored and I had to reopen the Manager to enter the value again. Very unintuitive. Best wishes, Martin
  3. THAT WOULD BE AMAZING! "Designer and Motion are both so intense! Put'em together, it just makes sense..." :-P
  4. Hello, I love AD and I use it not only for illustration work but I also do a lot of sketching for technical designs. The vector tools of AD are the most convenient ones I know and even CAD tools like AutoCAD or Fusion 360 cannot compete with the usability, simplicity and intuitive workflow of drawing 2D shapes - plus the AD's performance is really outstanding! What I would really like to see in AD are more "parametric" ways of exactly defining shapes and shape segments i.e. by providing dimensional and relational constraints. I know AD is not a CAD tool, but it has all the snapping and precise vertex placement already implemented. It would be simply an addition to place vertices where they should be by providing numerical values like the length of a line, the distance between to vertices, the spatial alignment of lines (either parallel or orthogonal) or to force multiple segments to copy the behavior of an reference object (e.g. the length of multiple lines changes when the length of a reference line changes, or one coordinate of an object stays equal to another coordinate of another object). This annotations could be also visualized or hidden in a final "rendering". If this also would be exportable into lets say a DWG file, Affinity would made a big imprint into the CAD scene for sure. Bye, Martin
  5. Okay, thank you for pointing this out. I disagree that it is useful to always have the original transformation available. First, you can save the history now. So you can retrieve the original transformation if you like. Second, let us the user decide what is useful and what's not. It would have saved me time, if I could simply reset the transformation boxes and have every object aligned to the axes. btw.: I use Designer not just for illustrations, but I think it is a perfect basis for technical drawings. It is also one of the few apps out there that's line widths are correctly interpreted by our laser-cutter. So I think some better measuring, aligning and labeling capabilities would be very useful (e.g. arrows as line-caps - not the arrow shapes, because there is a) no bending-feature and b ) lines are easier to snap to other objects - if you want to show data-flows for example)
  6. Resetting the selection box of a rotated object is not persistent - it returns to the rotated position after selecting another layer / object. Is this intended? How to make it persistent?
  7. The new grid system is AWESOME! Two things I have noticed so far: 1) Grid spacing units should not only be constrained to Millimeter. I'm working on screen designs and need a grid in pixels. 2) Values cannot be adjusted with the mouse-wheel but only by direct input or the sliders. I would favor a system like in Photoshop where you can klick on the value field and drag the mouse (or graphic tablet pen) to the side to adjust the values. Thank you
  8. Yeah! Finally someone who takes Wacom tablets into account! Thank you for that! I really like Affinity Photo and Designer a lot, but using them with a Wacom Tablet is not as intuitive as it is within the Adobe products. I would really appreciate if Serif would study the default driver settings of the Wacom tablets and adjust the shortcuts accordingly.
  9. Hello, today I have experienced a compatibility issue between the PSD export feature and Apple's Motion 5 PSD import. This could mainly be Apple's fault, but maybe it can also be interesting for Serif. When importing a PSD file that comes from Affinity Designer into Motion 5 not all layers (if any) are recognized and after importing not displayed. The only way to make the PSD file visible is via drag and drop from Motion's file browser, but then all layers get merged and transparency gets lost. My workaround is to open the PSD file in Photoshop itself and save it with "maximize compatibility" checked. After this Motion 5 has no problems importing the file with all layers and transparency. Bye Martin
  10. Hi folks, I want to purchase a medium sized graphics tablet in the next few weeks and I'm wondering if graphic tables are supported out of the box with all their features like pressure sensitivity, or if any kind of Affinity Photo plugin is needed? The Huion H610 Pro seems to be my favorite choice at the moment - Wacom tablets are too expensive for my use case - the Huion has good reviews (on the Internet) and cost just about 70 Euros here in Germany - i.e. http://goo.gl/yFCpz3 - but I have no cue if the driver support is really sufficient on OS X 10.10. Maybe we can start an overview-thread of supported graphic tablets and their working features here? Bye Martin
  11. I'm experiencing issues with the layer panel after a few minutes working on an illustration with many layers. That issue is that I'm unable to drag and drop (rearranging) the layers anymore. Online restarting the application helps. One minor feature that I am missing (besides arrow-heads in the stroke menu - which is not minor) is the "grouping" ability of selected layers into a new, not yet existing layer via a context-menu option at the layers panel. Currently I have to create a new layer, selecting the source layers and dragging them manually into the new layer (this is where I've firstly realised the above mentioned issue).
  12. That's what brought me to Affinity Designer, to the purchase of the same and finally to this forum and this reply! :-D
  13. Affinity Designer is damn cool!
