Note: error in the order of the searches
Pyanepsion replied to Pyanepsion's topic in V2 Bugs found on Windows
There is only one text frame per page except for a header frame at the top and a pagination frame at the bottom. This bug does not occur all the time. In the attached file, I had to get to note 34 for the order to start messing up. See the note calls on page 43 and what this looks like in the layer stack on page 44. Is it normal that in the search window, I mean ‘search window’, the order does not follow the order? Absolutely not, whatever the reason! footnote-number.afpub -
Note: error in the order of the searches
Pyanepsion replied to Pyanepsion's topic in V2 Bugs found on Windows
The file was written in Word and then transferred to an ASCII editor: Notepad++ so that only the plain text was retained. This raw text was pasted into Affinity Publisher and then formatted. I cannot provide the file publicly for obvious reasons of confidentiality. -
Note: error in the order of the searches
Pyanepsion replied to Pyanepsion's topic in V2 Bugs found on Windows
It does not really matter what the cause is for the user. This change in the order of occurrence can have big financial consequences. Each note in the wrong place produces a mixture of all the notes on the page where it is located. That said, the order in which the notes were created is apparently irrelevant. The notes were created in the order they arrived in Word. I have noticed, however, that when this malfunction occurs, there are apparently at least 3 or more footnotes per page. -
Hello everyone, I used a ‘Bottom of the page’ paragraph style for the footnotes. In the text, the automatic numbering of the notes is correct. I wanted to copy all the notes in Notepad++ to transfer them back to another DTP. So I ran the search for the ‘Bottom of the page’ paragraph style to see the different occurrences. Some notes are not displayed in the right order in the search window. For example, on page 44, I found hits 25, 24, then 26 when they are actually in the correct order at the bottom of page 44. It may be explained that this is due to that or to something else, but the fact remains that this malfunction could have caused major problems (or even forced me to pay for the damage) if I had not realized! I did realize it, and it required far more attention than would have been necessary for such a routine task.

Hello everyone, I would like all my footnotes to have a positioning with a minimum gap before of 7 pt a minimum advance of 7 pt a thin line with on the first note and the rest of the note stroke style color from the same colour copied from the document palette stroke style width thin 0" left indentation 4.75" width vertical offset of 7 pt How do you go about making a single adjustment once and for all that is valid for all the notes in a document? Thank you for your explanations.

Error in date imported from XLSX
Pyanepsion replied to sstlaurent's topic in V2 Bugs found on Windows
I too have reported similar import problems. @sstlaurent, your AFPUB file does not download. Maybe because of the accented letter in the name? @Old Bruce, if you import an Excel file, it is to save time, not to lose time converting it into this or that! -
v2.0.3.1688 Hello everyone, A file from version v1 was crashing version v2.0.3.1688 with a premature exit of the software. I was able to open it with version v.2.0.3.1670 (beta version). It turned out that a file related to AFDESIGN (a logo) had been modified. I was able to update this file in the beta version of Affinity Publisher and then I was able to open the AFPUB file in the public version. There was another old problem that I thought had been solved. This logotype contains Arial text and a shape. The Arial font had oddly been renamed bosun 3 and was obviously no longer recognised. I had to revert to the logotype in Affinity Designer V2.0.0.1688 to put again the correct Arial name.

Linux user base keep growing !
Pyanepsion replied to Wanesty's topic in Feedback for the Affinity V2 Suite of Products
I don't quite understand the point of this discussion in this forum, although Linux systems have obvious advantages. In particular, they are often free, powerful and flexible operating systems that have a lot to offer users who are willing to take the time to learn how to use them. They were also cheaper to use and maintain, and made better use of the CPU. They are still particularly effective only for short-term work. But, they are no longer what computer users expect, whether they are customers or software producers. This is reflected in the market share, where there has been a small but steady erosion of all Linux systems for years. The most visible pitfall seems to be that Linux systems are not as user-friendly as other systems. They are complicated to install and then customise. They actually require a thorough knowledge of the system being used and one quickly comes to the use of the command line. This major effort is probably the reason why those who have mastered it have paradoxically become fans of it and proselytise it so much. The result of all this is that the number of professional and recreational applications remains very limited since they only engage fans. These applications themselves often remain pale ersatz of what is done elsewhere, except when they have decided to switch to other operating systems Another recurring problem is the instability of Linux systems, with occasional bugs or security problems undermining their reliability and security. By e.g, we are in January 2023. The most recent bug (December 2022) was in the Debian system and changed the way the database server configuration file was processed… -
V 2.0.3.1688. Hello everyone, I have created a Word file with all the character and highlight colours and all the default styles from the Font tab in Word. There are 2 methods of transferring text from Word. Copy the text. Underlines 3 to 8 and Hidden are not recognised. Style names created in Word are well recognised in Affinity Publisher. A line break is added to the last paragraph. Import the Word file. Underlines 3 to 8 and Hidden are not recognised. The style names created in Word are well recognised in Affinity Publisher. A line break is added to the last paragraph. Paragraph style differs slightly (hyphenation) from direct copying of text. I have only found one method of copying text from Affinity Publisher into Word. The initial highlights from Word are not picked up in Word, nor are the initial underlines 3 to 8. Character styles created in Affinity Publisher are not carried over into Word. texte-couleur.docx copy-from-word.afpub

What the tables currently lack is automatic continuation over several pages. Everything else is there. I tend to use this solution when the layout is fixed, for example an invoice, or when there are cell merges. The workaround of using character or paragraph styles is often relevant, but it is not always quickly applicable when the table becomes a bit complex. I use it more in thesis type work when the height of a cell is going to vary a lot.

Hello, @MikeTO, Regardless of the language, the PC version does freeze when inserting a dash or other separator in the separator (instead of the default tab). In my case, Affinity Publisher eventually thaws, but this is of course abnormal.

Upgrade? I still can not decide...
Pyanepsion replied to Fritz_H's topic in Feedback for the Affinity V2 Suite of Products
The advantage of the trial period is that it allows you to buy wisely and not to buy it if it does not meet your expectations. The advantage of the promotional price is that you can buy the new product for less than the old version for a limited period. Reminder: general list of improvements in version 2. There are more precise details of the tabs specific to each software. In essence, the notion of backward compatibility often opposes any idea of improving formats regardless of the medium. The solution generally consists of allowing old versions to be loaded, but not of allowing an old version to read new ones. That said, being able to save a version 2 file as a version 1 file (with all the loss of functionality that this imposes) could indeed be a good idea, even if many programs do not do this. This is a view shared by other users. Others think the opposite. Finally, there are those who feel that the new interface needs to be improved in certain areas. Could you be more precise because it is difficult to know what you are talking about? -
Affinity Publisher 2.0.3.1688. Hello everyone, In Affinity Publisher, after any letter, type an apostrophe (’). It should become curved. Type an accented letter (e.g. à) and then some other letters (e.g. bc). Copy the text into Word. A space has been added after the accented letter. I tested unicode letters U+00E1 to U+00FC. Ce bogue n'apparait pas dans la 2.0.0.1640. accented-letter.mp4 accented-letter.afpub

Measurement anomaly in the decoration
Pyanepsion replied to Pyanepsion's topic in V2 Bugs found on Windows
The new behaviour of version 2 is really not ergonomic. The vocabulary has been adapted accordingly for the spacing. The vocabulary and behaviour should also be adapted to the management of decorations so that it does not become a real headache. The easiest way to see this is to perform some manipulations in the attached AFPUB file. If, for example, you want to add a decoration around the text, you must now write : -0,14 -0,14 -0,14 +0,14 (not -0,14) decoration.afpub The paragraphs before and after use the Normal style. The middle paragraph uses variations of the decoration. At the start, we start from scratch. The horizontal axes increase in value not when they move towards the centre between the two edges, but when they both move downwards. The vertical axes of the decoration both increase in value as they approach the centre between the two edges. The vertical and horizontal behaviour changes. This behaviour differs from the margin management, and it differs from version 1. This is a headache as it goes against the grain. -
Measurement anomaly in the decoration
Pyanepsion replied to Pyanepsion's topic in V2 Bugs found on Windows
I wanted to talk about the positive or negative value of decoration. Distance is usually used in two ways: Either as a distance outwards with a positive value and inwards as a negative value (example margin in CSS with Firefox); Or as a distance from a vertical line and respectively vertical with a negative value to the left of the vertical, and above the horizontal, and respectively with a positive value to the right of the vertical, and below the horizontal. This is not the case here with Affinity Pubmlisher, which leads to some misunderstanding. It looks like a bug to me. Comparison in CSS and recently in Affinity Publisher Null value: This seems consistent. Positive value: This is the opposite of the usual logic about left, right and up. The bottom, curiously, follows a different logic, the one that is in fact usually used. Negative value: This is the opposite of the usual logic about left, right and up. The bottom, curiously, follows a different logic, the one that is in fact usually used. More information on CCS logic on Firefox Developer. -
Hello everyone, The + or - sign of the value indicating the distance does not make much sense to me, as it does not depend on the origin or the deviation from the limit. What about it? Décoration.mp4

The useful set of documents has been sent. 2.47 GB. The first step is to put the links back into the AFPUB file of the book and into the AFDESIGN file of the old map. Let’s be clear: it is normal that the PDF file differentiates all AFDESIGN objects. This obviously increases the size of the PDF when these objects are very small. It is, however, perhaps abnormal that this leads to a crash, and when many of these objects are the same. The main folder E … calls up files located in its folder, but also files located elsewhere on the same hard disk partition or on another partition. I put them here at the same level as the main folder. The video shows the difference in export time to PDF (and the name of the printing company) with a PNG image created from the Affinity Designer file, and the AFDESIGN file itself. With the AFDESIGN version, the PDF export takes a long time and then the printing company’s calculations take an enormous amount of time until the end of their software crashes after about 1.5 hours. The malfunction occurs on pages 8 and 9, which use the same map on the left side (p. 8) and on the right side (p. 9). With the PNG version of the map, the PDF export of the book is still reasonable and then the print company’s preflight calculations are still within a reasonable time.
