@walt.farrell, you're right: I'm no more informed about the developers' intentions than you are. My aim was simply to raise the issue of incompatibility between the different 2.1 betas to avoid this happening again in the public 2.1 releases. I'm glad to see that we are on the same page on this issue. Let's hope the developers take this on board. Let's keep sharing ideas on this forum!
-
@walt.farrell, 😄 You are playing with words. You have understood very well what I wanted to point out and which is implicit in my formulation speaking of beta versions: it would not be necessary for the public versions 2.1 to be incompatible with each other 2.1.
-
The bug that appeared with 2.0.4 may have been fixed on the Mac, but not yet fully fixed on Windows. I can't test it on version 2.0.0, because the 2.1 betas are incompatible with all previous versions (including 2.1!).

This does not work either on Windows 11. I haven't tried it on Windows 10.

v2.1.0.1736.
It isn’t solved.
There is always a space missing after the comma.
This leads to layout problems, as can be seen here with the break after the hyphen on pages 90 to 91 instead of 105. This lengthens the total index of the book by 1–2 pages unnecessarily.
This malfunction has been announced several times as solved. It appeared after version 2.0.0.1640 where the spacing is still correct.

-
Hello, @GRAFKOM,
This malfunction seemed to have disappeared in version 2.0.4.
Here are a few hints to possibly narrow down the cause. Is it happening again with the beta version? Do you have hardware acceleration? Are all resources present? Are the fonts present and all their characters used?

v2.1.0.1732.
This is not corrected. Commas and numbers are not spaced. Here is an example from 2000 entries:
Réunion p. 23–24,68,90–91,105,116,254,271,277We should have got something like this:
Réunion p. 23–24, 68, 90–91, 105, 116, 254, 271, 277 -
Here is an extract from Unicode. I show here only 4 of the attributes of each character out of several more than 200.
<char cp="0027" age="1.1" na="APOSTROPHE" […] na1="APOSTROPHE-QUOTE" […]/> <char cp="2018" age="1.1" na="LEFT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK" […] na1="SINGLE TURNED COMMA QUOTATION MARK" […]/> <char cp="2019" age="1.1" na="RIGHT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK" […] na1="SINGLE COMMA QUOTATION MARK" […]/>

@walt.farrell
I agree that the use of the curved apostrophe in the user interface may seem like a minor detail. However, the user interface is a key element of the user experience and can have a significant impact on the perceived quality of software.Without going back to the first WYSIWYG text editors, which revolutionised desktop publishing by allowing users to directly view the final output of their work on screen, the use of the curved apostrophe in the Affinity Suite user interface can help improve the overall user experience and increase user confidence in the quality of the DTP suite. I think this could be an easy improvement to implement and I hope the Affinity development team will consider this suggestion to improve the quality of their software.
A spelling mistake is still a mistake! It's a bad thing in a software that wants to claim excellence.

The Left Single Quotation Mark is U+2018.
No. U+2018 is named LEFT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK. This is not the good apostrophe, however, as it is inverted. The rest is corrected.

I understand your point of view, but I consider the use of the (computer) apostrophe in the user interface to be a typographical bug. In professional DTP, it is important to respect typographic standards to ensure the quality of the texts produced. By replacing the straight apostrophe with the curved apostrophe in the user interface, Affinity could improve the overall quality of their DTP suite. I am confident that this fix is quick and easy to implement, and I hope that Affinity's development team will consider this suggestion to improve the quality of their software.

RIGHT SINGLE QUOTATION MARKHello,
I would like to submit a suggestion for an improvement to the Affinity suite that borders on a bug and an improvement.
I have noticed that most of the text in the Affinity interface uses an archaic apostrophe, known as a computer apostrophe, which does not follow the current typographic rule. In DTP software designed to produce quality text and images, it would be a good idea to use the RIGHT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK (U+2019) instead of the (COMPUTER) APOSTROPHE (U+0027) in the interface text.
I realise that this change may seem minor, but it will help to improve the quality of text produced with the Affinity suite and give a professional impression to users. I very much appreciate the attention to detail from the manufacturer of this suite, and I think this minor improvement can make a big difference to Affinity users.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Hello, Grafcom.
I just made a screen shot in Affinity Publisher and copied it to Affinity Photo. I then opened the image in Affinity Publisher and magnified it to 1250% on a 4K screen. There is clearly a very slight pixelation (so-called staircase) from the shape of the icons. It is likely that the degradation is more noticeable at lower resolutions, but it seems that your hardware adds this discrepancy.
-
There is in fact one. However, it appears to be particularly long and tedious.
Replace all the characters that don't match the search with a space (or another symbol) and then copy the whole thing into another tool like Word or Notepad++. Since Affinity Publisher does not yet know how to extract the result of a search, this might be a good suggestion for improvement.
-
Hello to all,
Either text sequences that use a format, or a character style or a paragraph style.
How do I export or copy the result of our search to use it outside Affinity Publisher?
One application among others is to quickly check that a first name among many others is written in a uniform manner throughout the document.
Thank you for your explanations.
-
I didn't do that. I discovered the absence of a status bar this morning when I opened the software. Everything was normal when I turned off the software yesterday.
-
You had to press the tab key twice.
The first time removed the whole interface, the second time made it reappear with the status bar.
I can’t reproduce the disappearance of the status bar alone.
-
Hello everyone,

How to make the status bar reappear when it has disappeared at the bottom of the screen (Page Browser, Error Level, Help Message).
Thank you for your explanations.

Hello, @Uwe367,
I will agree with you. I had this problem once when I upgraded QuarkXPress and I solved it by buying a more powerful SSD.
SSDs are becoming more and more affordable, but they can be expensive and time-consuming to install, especially because of the high cost of the professional version of Windows, its installation and the cost of reinstalling applications.
When an application cannot be installed on a partition other than the system partition, this can cause several problems, including
- Lack of storage space: If the system partition is already full, there may be storage space problems for installing new applications or updating existing ones. This can slow down the system or even prevent the installation of some applications.
- Risk of system corruption: Installing applications on the system partition may increase the risk of operating system corruption. If an application is poorly designed or contains bugs, it can affect the operation of the operating system, which can cause errors or crashes.
- Difficulty backing up or restoring data: If all applications are installed on the system partition, it may be difficult to back up or restore important data without performing a full backup of the operating system. This can lead to significant data loss in the event of a problem with the operating system.
- Difficulty troubleshooting the system: If problems occur with the operating system, it may be difficult to resolve them if all applications are installed on the system partition. Troubleshooting may require a complete reinstallation of the operating system, which can be a time-consuming process.
- Increased security risk: If all applications are installed on the system partition, this may increase the security risk to the operating system. If an application is compromised by malware, this can lead to a vulnerability in the operating system as a whole, which can cause security problems.
In summary, installing all applications on the system partition can lead to problems with storage space, security, backup, troubleshooting and system corruption. It is recommended to install applications on a separate partition from the system partition to avoid these problems.
We have all seen that Serif is aware of these drawbacks. They will probably take less time to solve it than their competitor.

after a seven years of gaining a muscle memory with some of them it's a real pain.
Brackets are particularly unsuitable in our business, because they are difficult to use on a non-English keyboard and because a bracket usually indicates an intervention outside the text.
In typography, square brackets mean that a set of words has been replaced or added to a quotation so that it remains understandable out of its context.
😉You will find that it is easier and more consistent to use arrows than open and closed brackets.

In fact, for the first time, the file created on the Windows 10 computer with version 2.1.0.1706 opened correctly on the Windows 11 computer without detecting any errors.
I opened another file on Windows 11 with a problematic index, pasted 3 lines of this index into the test file and the preflight of the test file then detected that the index should be updated. And since then, there is the behaviour I detailed above. That’s why I think it’s a corrupted file in the settings.
Before uninstalling and reinstalling everything, I’d rather be sure, and also better know which files are affected.

Hello everyone!

😁So Serif thinks we’re all bilingual? Not very cool! To ask for help to all, my little finger tells me that it would be better if this request appeared totally in the user’s language, and not only the choice ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.
Otherwise, we would risk answering ‘Yes’ to the question, ‘Do you speak English?’ and we would be in trouble! -
Hello @krbo,

It is true that the keyboard shortcuts obtained with AltGr are not interpreted correctly, so it is not possible to change the brush size with the ‘[’ and ‘]’ brackets for most Windows keyboards if the language used is not English.
However, a workaround is to simply replace the brackets ‘[’ and ‘]’ with one of the 4 arrows in Preference/Shortcuts.
I hope this solution will be useful to you.

Hello, everybody,
I was reporting a bug that appeared in the public version v 2.0.3.1688. Spaces are removed in the index after the comma between two page numbers.
It was declared corrected on 23 January 2023, but it is not.
This is how I got the bug:
- I created a test index on Windows 10 with beta v2.1.0.1706. On Windows 10, everything appears correctly.
- I open the Windows file in Windows 11 on another computer. The preflight on Windows 11 detects an error.
- Correction. The good spaces are removed!
- I go back to Windows 10. The preflight wants to put the missing spaces back.
Could it be a problem with corrupted Affinity Publisher settings files? How do I know?

Vector logotype of Affinity softwares

Following on from this discussion, I am looking for an update to the logotypes we had previously obtained. It would be better to have them in SVG format or, ideally, in AFDESIGN format. The logotypes currently available in the Press pack are not true SVG files, but rather PNG images encoded in base 64 and embedded in an SVG container. This has resulted in a considerable increase in file size, from 11 KB for the old logo to 39 KB for the new one, with little change.
If anyone has updated logos in either of these formats, I would be grateful if you could share them here. Thank you in advance for your help.
