  1. Ok...so what I’m thinking then is that what we look at when we see the images in the photos app is that we are seeing a jpeg, but when we open in AP, we are getting the RAW that would show whatever noise is there.  I thought that I had sent you the RAW image, because it’s an image I haven’t done any processing to, so that would make sense why we are seeing the noise in the RAW developer.  I hope I’m making sense!  I need to figure out then how else to access the RAW image.

  2. I’m wondering now if the photos app is rendering a jpeg version of the RAW file for viewing that maybe removes the noise and the noise isn’t seen then until the RAW file is opened.  It’s not a huge deal to me, as the noise reduction tool does a fine job of reducing noise without too much loss of sharpness, and I’m able to pull the sharpness back in with a slight amount of processing.

  3. Hi Chris!  I couldn’t get the screenshots to upload here to the forum, so I sent them to the Dropbox folder as well.  Thank you for looking into this!  One image is a screenshot of the picture opened in AP RAW editor, and the other is a screenshot of the image in the photos app.  I also sent two screenshots of the image opened in the photos app editor as well, and I am seeing the same noise there when opened in the editor.   Lastly, I uploaded a screenshot of the image opened in Lightroom and am not seeing the same noise in the LR editor.  However, the image opened in Lightroom looks considerably blurry compared to the other images.

    Hey Oscar,

Would you mind sharing the original files with us so we can look into this?

I've made you a private Dropbox folder to upload them into. Cheers :)

Hi Chris!  After seeing Oscar's post yesterday about this issue, I checked this out when I got home from work, and am seeing the same issue.  My RAW image in the photos app has very little noise, but then when I pull it into AP on my iPad also running the latest iPadOS , I am seeing a lot of noise.  So then I downloaded LR for comparison, and I am seeing the same thing...much more noise in my RAW image in Affinity than in LR.  However, my RAW image appears sharper in AP than in LR.  I am at work right now, but can send you my file when I get home if you would like.  I am very interested to know what is causing this.  I didn't realize it until I saw Oscar's post, and have just been using noise reduction on my images when editing, but then of course, as you know, I lose some detail that I have to pull back in with sharpening.

Let me know if you want me to send you my files and I can post screenshots as well!!

  5. After seeing the original post, I checked this out last evening when I got home from work.  I have the same thing happening.  Much more noise when I pull in a RAW image as compared to the original in my photos app.  So then I downloaded LR for comparison, and it's the same...More noise in Affinity RAW editor versus in LR.  However, I notice that my image is sharper in the AP for iPad RAW developer than it is in LR.  I am running on the 2018 iPad PRO 12.9".  If you want more screenshots, I can post them when I get home.

That's odd. I can't see why any recent ones wouldn't be there. The only reason you might not get one is if you are getting a hang and not a crash. The difference being you manually quitting the app after it hangs vs. the app crashing itself back to the iPad's home screen.

I've got a few crash reports for this particular crash so we may not need yours, however it would be interesting to know why you don't have any recent ones...

Mine were definitely crashes, but they aren’t there.  How much longer will it be before we get the update?  I’m really missing my AP :(

I still can't get this crash. I've tried it on two iPad's on beta and the store version with a few different files.

Can you all please go to Settings > Privacy > Analytics > Analytics Data and look for the Photo iPad crash. Then click Share to save to an .ips file. You can then save it to a cloud service and attach it here. Any crash logs we can collate will help the developers resolve this.

Chris, I can’t find the crashes in my analytics data...i can’t find any of the crashes that have happened with AP on my iPad after 6/26.

  8. Found a new(to me) bug.  Don’t know if this has been reported yet, but when working on RAW files in Affinity Photo, if I use noise reduction, when I go to develop my image, it crashes completely, and I lose all my work and get kicked all the way out of AP and sent back to my iPad’s home screen.  I’m working on a 2018 iPad Pro with the latest iOS.

    Hey cas_2021,

I'm so sorry you lost your work :( It's very odd that after 2 hours, the app didn't recover anything. It should have asked you to recover so you should have only lost 5 minutes if you haven't changed the default recovery time.

Hi Chris...it didn’t give me any option...it just completely closed down and went to my home screen.  When I went back into AP, everything was gone.  My image wasn’t even in the home screen...it was just gone.

  10. If a person does a restore on iTunes from an older backup, can we revert back to the good, old version of AP?  I hate the thought that I would have to completely reset my iPad Pro, but I am unable to edit with the new version of AP, and I am losing money.  I’m really frustrated with this new version, and feel that the bugs should have been worked out before the release...I, like many others, I’m sure, can’t afford to wait for all the issues to be fixed.

  11. Even with the patch, my beloved AP is broken.  Just spent two hours editing an image, and I merely went to zoom in on my image, and AP totally crashed and I lost all of my work!  It is also very slow and still laggy.  I’m so frustrated and upset right now.  AP has become entirely useless to me.  I loved editing before this update on my 2018 iPad Pro.  When I bought my iPad I was trying to choose between the iPad or a laptop, and went with the iPad because it was such a joy to edit on my older iPad Pro.  Now I’m regretting my choice.  At this point, AP and my iPad are both useless to me.  I hope this is fixed soon, because I’m losing money big time.

I responded to this thread 20 hours ago. We are responding to as many threads as we physically can. The developers are already working fixes and we've already got a Mac beta out.

We can only apologies for those affected by the update and we are working as hard and as fast as we can to put it right.

Chris, I’m so sorry...I didn’t realize you were with Serif!  Please accept my apology, and I look forward to the fixes!  I love Affinity photo, and I will wait patiently for the fix to the bugs.  Thank you!

  13. I’m having the same issue on my almost brand new 2018 iPad Pro 12.9.  Brush strokes have considerable lag, and it’s really frustrating.  I want my 1.6 version back.  I used to love Affinity Photo, now I don’t even want to edit pics on my iPad, and I bought it specifically for editing pics because I loved editing on my iPad with Affinity.

Does anyone know of a way to go back to v1.6?  Why isn’t Serif responding to any of our questions or issues?  I just want to enjoy editing my photos again.
