I completely believe Peter, I have similar issues with the Beta with my work, I've given an example video on the beta forum. However the issues aren't just limited to resizing/rotating they can crop up seemingly at random given enough time and complexity of work.

Ive decided to record a video of the issues, please note I've done it this way as its always reproducible. However I find the with any large documents with just a few layers, the app slowly grinds to a halt and then needs to be forcibly quit. This will happen for any work I do over a short period of time, with enough complexity.
iPad Pro 12 1TB HD iOs 12.4
The end of the video is where the app has hung, occasionally it manages to eventually fix itself, but mostly I have to forcibly quit the app and lose all my progress.

To be honest, I am still incredibly frustrated with the beta. There is still hideous slowdown when working on large documents for a while, that require saving the document, then reopening. Then saving the document, then reloading. Then having to quit the app because it won't save the document, then having to redo all the work, hoping it won't crash before saving the document.
The mere act of having to close the picture so that I can "auto save" my work, is a joke. The current state of the app is shocking compared to 1.6 which was a joy.

Still terrible performance on large documents (16000 x 8000 pixels), I can add about 3 photos to this, and then try drawing and get enormous lag and general slow down.
I also have to duplicate originally saved images in order to save them to iPad. Simply saving them to iPad does not work.
None of this was occurring on 1.6

I have used this beta fairly extensively, and there have been lots of improvements. However I am still finding fairly significant slow down on larger documents (I'm using 16000 x 8000 pixels) once we enter into a few layers of use (around 15 to 20). There tend to be significant slowdowns when trying to move or resize the layers (or groups of layers).
I find that sometimes saving the document and then trying again to move the layers can improve performance. However this can lead to other issues such as significant delays in saving the files and sometimes not even being able to get back to the main menu.
I am having to reduce the number of layers I work on to get work done unfortunately.
I am also finding that occasionally I am unable to choose a new tool, the UI seems to acknowledge my presses but does not respond until I reset Photo.
I was not facing these issues on 1.6.
I am using an iPad Pro 12.9 with 1TB HD space

One can see the same lag at resolutions of 4000x4000 and most other reasonable large resolutions as long as one adds enough layers.

I just retried with the 16bit option, interestingly one has to add a few more layers to see the lag.

The only steps I am doing are
1. Create a new document with a size of 8000 x 8000 pixels
2. Try to draw on the canvas using the pencil
3. Notice how laggy it is
I've tried using the iPads screen recorder, but it doesn't seem to identify where the screen has been pressed (i.e with a red dot) which means it is hard to show how laggy it is.

I would but I can't seem to find how to get it to record input (i.e finger or pencil touches), how is this done?
Are the steps not reproducible for you p_mac?

Create a new 8000x8000 pixel document, try to draw.
I'll post a video if this is not reproducible by anyone.

I have been trying the new Photo for iPad 1.7.1.141, and the same issues as before.
Terrible lag on drawing with large document.
And if the document is detailed enough (i.e. enough layers) simply moving a layer is enough to cause a crash.

My work flow has completely stopped since the 1.7 updates, everything is laggy, buggy and crashy.
It's pretty much unusable nowadays.
Affinity Photo used to be my favourite tool on the iPad just two weeks ago, and now I can't even use it.
Drawing on a large document, laggy, drawing on a large document with lots of layers, really laggy, try to move an object on a larger document with lots of layers, really crashy.
Ugh.

I have been trying the new beta of photo on my iPad as 1.7 introduced significant lags on pencil use for large documents. Although this has improved, there is still quite considerable lag noticeable, especially as one adds layers and details. This is noticeable on drawing, erasing, most pencil interactions.
To use an example to demonstrate the lag, create a 16000 x 8000 document, start drawing on a layer, add a new layer start drawing, repeat. It generally only takes around 6 or 7 layers for severe lag to start occurring. This did not happen for Photo 1.6 and previous versions.

Wonderful, hopefully this has fixed the lag when drawing with the pencil on a larger document.
How does one install the app? If I open a document with the beta can I no longer open the document with a previous photo version?

I understand this is probably best placed in the beta section, but will resolution of these errors be first placed in beta before being released as an update? If so, do I assume correctly that I would need to apply on the beta forums to download a copy? I am currently struggling to proceed with my projects and any quicker solution would be much appreciated.

2018 iPad 12 1TB, absolutely unusable lag on menus, drawings, absolutely everything. I've gone from loving the app one day to finding it absolutely unusable the next.
I don't need any layers, or filters for the lag to happen. Simply make a 16000x8000 pixel document and try to draw on it with the pencil, it doesn't seem to recognise the pencil is there at first, and then manages to catch up. take pencil off the screen, repeat the process. Of course as the project gets more detailed, the lag gets worse and worse and worse.
Infuriating.

If its anything like my files, saving/exporting anything within the editor mode would be next to impossible.
Within the initial start screen/file chooser, it is fine.
It is utterly unusable at the moment, and I am seething as I have countless hours invested into various projects that I cannot access at the moment.
As I stated before, simply drawing on a document using the pencil on a new/blank sufficiently large document, say 16000 x 8000 will induce lag that is unacceptable.
I use an iPad Pro 2018 1TB edition

A blank new document will create the issues if one sets the dimensions to say 16000 x 8000 pixels (I'm assuming this is not the minimum dimensions to experience lag problems)
On a new document there is considerable lag to simple pencil drawings.
On the previous versions of photo, there was no lag nor problems whatsoever with this size of document.

I'm having exactly the same problems with exactly the same setup. It is unusable at the moment.
