I use various software (Solidworks Composer and also Blender) to output EPS and SVG files of 3D CAD into technical illustrations. These contain literally hundreds of extra lines that I do not want (and the documents contain thousands of them). In Adobe Illustrator, I can just use the lasso node selection tool (or even the plain node selection tool) and drag across a line, and that entire curve will be selected and I can hit delete once to delete that segment, and twice to delete the entire curve. This is regardless of if I mouse over multiple lines in separate groups. Is there any workflow in Affinity I can use to replicate this, or should I just stick with Illustrator?

A new version is about to get released. Anyone know if perspective distort for Designer will be included in it?

Is that the only workaround in Affinity Designer as well?

The perspective distort and mesh warp tool are under the same button and behave very similarly. Yet, the "apply" button for both are on the opposite extremes of the screen! (Perspective in a floating window in the bottom right, and Warp in the toolbar to the top left.) That's a pretty extreme UI consistency break.

The Affine filter that's commonly used to create seamless tiling is nice, but it would be even nicer if it could affect the entire document, and not just a single layer. I thought a workaround would be to put all layers into a group, but no, that MERGED them into a single layer, which is very bad for a non-destructive workflow.

If you press Control-E on a pixel layer above a pixel layer, the layers merge. If you press Control-E on a pixel layer above an image layer, you toggle the erase tool If you press Control-E on two nested pixel layers, the resulting layer ALSO merges the pixels from the parent layer (super bad)! The layers right-click context menu doesn't show that Control-E is a shortcut. Why can't the "assistant" detect that you're attempting to merge onto an image layer and automatically convert it to a pixel layer? (Other pet peeves on image layers include the lack of ability to copy a selection from them, which is insane, imo...)

I used the web preset, and as I said, I don't see "linked document" anywhere in my layers, only "embedded document".

I dragged a number of PSD and afphoto files into Affinity Designer, got lots of "embedded documents" but no linked that I could see... yet this appeared when I opened the file today: I'm guessing this is part of what will be fixed in the next version?

So I noticed that dropping a PSD/AFPhoto file into an open Affinity Photo document puts them in a layer named "embedded document", and double clicking on it opens it in a new window, just like "smart layers" in Photoshop. So what are other methods of creating "embedded document" layers? I can't seem to find options to select a group of layers and gathering them into an "embedded document" like you can in Photoshop. Second, how can I "explode" that embedded document out into its separate layers in the "parent" document? That is, what if I don't want it embedded anymore, but rather see the actual layers without double clicking on it? EDIT: One bad thing usability wise with editing these embedded documents is that you can't double click them in the layers panel, or even right-click and get an option to edit them. You must double click them in the document with the move tool, which is rather bad for discoverability. EDIT: Oh, and the above editing paradigm is a bit inconsistent with the "image" layer type, which I hope is non-destructive in its transforms, but which you cannot double click to edit...

Why can't I paste an image into a quick mask?
eobet replied to eobet's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
Ok, so that's a workaround, but it's not quick. Anyone have a quicker option? (I'm talking Q, Ctrl-V, Q kind of quick...) -
I thought the whole point of cryptomatte was to get perfect cut-outs, yet when I followed that video's instructions, I ended up with not only a black edge, but no anti-aliasing: Also, building on what the previous poster said, there's a free OpenEXR plugin for Photoshop that supports Cryptomatte and the way they do it is to put each object mask in its own layer. Together with control click directly in the viewport, selection works pretty well with that method.

Why does the iPad have to have different user interface than the desktop app? It’s way worse, not intuitive at all like Procreate, and apps like Clip Studio Paint have the full deskriptiv UI on the IPad anyway and it works just fine. I want to use the iPad version of Affinity Designer, but: The layer options, settings and buttons panel is so much more convoluted and difficult to use on the iPad compared to the desktop. I’m even having a difficult time changing the gradient colors on an object, because on the desktop, I just click in the fill in the appearance tab, but that menu on the iPad is so obtuse I just don’t understand how to use it. Also, this might be obvious to some, but I cannot find the live pixel preview on the iPad. And menus I have zero interest in, like the Assets and Symbols, cannot be dragged off and closed like on the desktop. Currently, I’m only drawing small things on the iPad where the pen is better, and then moving to the desktop for all other things.

So I guess this has to do with the hardness setting and perhaps spacing as well? (These two brushes are just the Basic soft and hard brushes with added pressure sensitivity on flow and size.) Still very weird that a softer brush gives an uglier harder edge... And there's no softness setting on the outline effect. So I guess I have to stick to hard brushes if I want a usable outline (that's fine, it was just a bit weird).

Adding my vote to this. What is the reason that slices cannot be dragged to be re-arranged like layers can be, as it seems to be the exact same UI control as the layers?
