Hi there!
I just wanted to share a list of Free for Commercial Use Fonts. This is a curated[*] list of some of the best freely available Fonts out there. The criteria I had in order to come up with this list:
They have to be either Free or Open Source Fonts.
They can be used in commercial projects (some restrictions may vary from Font to Font, so be sure to read first). I made my best to ensure this point, but I could be wrong and I'd be more that happy if you let me know if I made a mistake.
No attribution required.
In some cases (Serif and Sans Serif), they have to have more than two weights (at least one italic included).
Support for Spanish characters like Á, Ü, ¿¡!?, Ññ (since I speak Spanish, this was mandatory, but there are many more good Fonts that don't cover this criteria).
[*] I have basic knowledge about typography, but I have read reviews from well educated people in order to ensure quality.
Well, here it is the list. As you can see, they are grouped by classification, and a general one in that regard. Some of the Serif and Sans Serif fonts were included in "Headlines" because they had one weight or they had no italics/oblique.
[UPDATE] Added notes on some cases, like what the Font can be an alternative of.
[UPDATE] Added the number of Fonts.
[UPDATE] Adding previews of the fonts... eventhough some of them won't look as good, but it will help before clicking on a link.
[UPDATE] Where possible, I added a link to real life examples linking to Fonts In Use, for inspiration.

I'd duplicate the letter/s, apply a stroke to the lower copy and set blend mode to erase, if you group it with the road layer only the road will get knocked out
I recently watched one of @dmstraker Dave Straker’s InAffinity tutorials about “Pastel Colour Grading…” and it gave me some ideas. So, thanks to you for the inspiration, Dave!
I’ve attached another macro for creating a specific Artistic Look – this one called a Pastel Watercolor Effect. The attached file is a macro category (even though it only contains a single macro); you can import it into the Library Panel in the Desktop version of Affinity Photo, and it is compatible with the iPad version as well. (In my own preliminary testing, the macro works fairly well on an iPad, although there are some issues with missing items in the dialog box that appears for setting parameters.)
When you click the macro, it creates a number of layers inside of a group. The group is called “Pastel Watercolor Effect” and it can be turned on and off by simply showing or hiding the entire group. When you invoke the macro, you will be presented with a number of options in a dialog:
1-6] Lighten Color - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Red, Green, Blue
All of these color ranges are initially set to a value of -200%. As you move each of the sliders to the right, that particular color range will be selectively lightened. If you set any of the sliders all the way to 100% then that color range will go to white.
7] Set Amount of Pastel Blurring
This slider defaults to a value of 25 px. Setting it higher or lower will adjust the amount of “smudging” that the pastel layer displays.
8] Set Intensity of Outlines
This slider defaults to a value of 0.7. You can set it to values between 0 and 2, with higher values giving you darker and more intense outlines. If you set the Intensity slider to 0, the black outlines will effectively disappear.
9] Adjust Brightness
Brightness defaults to a value of 20%. You might want to increase it if (i) you have increased the outline intensity significantly, or (ii) to compensate for changes (particularly decreases) you might make to the Contrast.
10] Adjust Contrast
Contrast defaults to 0%. Adjust this to taste.
I’ve attached 2 photos (below) to show Before and After versions using this effect. Included in the photos are the settings that were used (which are a bit different from the default values).

As with all of the macros I have submitted, please note that I am only one person and have tested this on a limited number of images on a single computer. There is no way to have foreseen every possible scenario. I am hopeful (but obviously won’t guarantee) that you’ll like the results.
If you do like the macro, please keep it and enjoy it. This is “pay it forward software,” the happy result of an abundance of learning gleaned from the members of this forum who are so generous with their time and expertise!

Maybe affinity can integrate this feature from their github so we can now have something similar to adobe's 'select object'?
Hey folks, I was learning about gradient maps in this thread earlier and I was disappointed to see that in Affinity Photo 1.7.2 there's no ability to use existing gradient map swatches in a new gradient map adjustment layer (I believe currently I would have to go and add them all manually again and save them as adjustment presets).
This is a feature that I use very frequently and I'd love to be able to select things from my saved swatches (especially if I can drag it in)!
Hi All, I want to share these color ramps that you can easily use with affinity software:
http://soliton.vm.bytemark.co.uk/pub/cpt-city/
have a nice day
Ivan
I have produced a pdf version of the Affinity Photo manual that you can read without starting the program. It can be interesting to put it on your phone or tablet to read when you have some time to spare. Since the file is too big to upload here, I have put it on Dropbox for you to download. It is current for the last version of Affinity Photo. Comments welcomed. Here is the link:
Hi, thanks for sharing this tutorial.
My workflow:
1) I generally read the stops and colors values from the .c3g file
2) I set-up the gradient tool with stop positions and colors (I generally use that in the adjustment)
3) I register a macro that applies this gradient
4) I add the macro to the Library (maybe inside a category, for example Hillshade):
But as you can see we don't have the gradient preview in this way.
Few days ago I've also created two excel files with all the gradients (using a Python script) from the cpt-city package (http://soliton.vm.bytemark.co.uk/pub/cpt-city/pkg/)
But, I don't know if I can share these files in this forum, due to a license problem (each author has its own license)
Improvements we need for the adjustment gradient tool:
- The possibility to add float values in the stops.
- The possibility to insert opacity for each color
- The possibility to import gradients from .cpt, svg ecc...
Nice tutorial @melior64
But it can be easier if you copy the gradient image from the site, and use the option File > New from clipboard.
With this, you've got a file of the same larger as the gradient, you only need to enlarge you canvas' height to add a fill layer below. This way, you'll be able to easily pick the colours where they change.
Once you've got a file, you just need to paste another gradient at the top and modify the gradient.
Another tip with the gradient tool: don't use the gradient panel, but the Gradient tool and draw your gradient on the fill layer (AP, or a rectangle in AD) from left to right. You can add dots for colours on your gradient at the right position and pick the colour once the dot is selected.
I recently saw this post by @ivanozzo sharing a great resource for gradients and colour ramps, but I couldn't figure out how to easily use the eyedropper tool with the gradient in order to copy them into Affinity Photo.
After a long time playing around, eventually I sussed it out - so here's a tutorial for anyone else who needs this!
Hi All,
This is a Digital Shaded Relief of the area where I currently live (Lazio-Abruzzo border, Italy) made with AP and Arcgis Desktop.
Next steps:
- Remove arctifacts
- Add roads, rivers, lakes, land cover, contours ecc...
- Map lettering
- Layout

Was just testing some new things in Affinity Designer 1.7.1 and had this random blob (curve) on the screen, and it looked like an animal, so —a tiny bit later— this came out. Tested the new stroke arrow options too (the feet).
The vectorised voronoi pattern was generated with CINEMA 4D, rendered out, passed through "potrace", and then imported as curve into Affinity Designer. Not sure that's the best way, but works for me.

I didn't used an hypometric palette. I took Edward imhof's work and his color palette (blues, greens, and yellows) as reference. Eduard imhof was a Swiss master cartographer and developed a unique style to enhance terrain representation. The basic principle is to produce several masked layers (one for shadows, one for plain areas, on for peaks, ecc...) and then stack them together. So for example I extracted shadows from the basemap and colored it with a violet tone (with a multiply blend for example), then I extracted the illuminated areas and colored it with a yellow tone...
Is not easy to achieve imhof's results...So I need to improve the choise of colors and the use of masks (since I'm a newbie Affinity user). I will continue to work on this project and this will takes more than 2 hours.
And when I will finish, I will post the workflow in the tutorial section.
Here's one I adapted from a SVG from Vecteesy. Used your styles for the borders and fills. Some from the leaded glass some from the rose colors. Thanks.
This is interesting, and something I haven't seen before on the forum. I thought it would have taken much longer to achieve the result you already have.
The colouring is intriguing. I meant to ask you: how did you choose the colouring and apply it? Is it purely hypsometric? (As some valleys don't appear to be so).
