Distill7 got a reaction from 000 in How to create table headers and row styles
Tables with headers/repeated patterns/footers for both columns and rows are very easy to make once you understand how table formats work. You can also specify a different text style to each cell Formats.

Distill7 got a reaction from Daniel Gibert in Table of Content based on paragraph style and with multiple styles of TOC
You can generate TOC from any set of paragraph styles, and give them different levels, like level 1 for chapters and level 2 for subchaters.
You can assign different paragraph styles to each level of the TOC.
If you're familiar with InDesign TOC you should pick it up easily. I did it since the Beta without having to look at any tutorial.

First I want to congratulate everyone in Serif for creating this awesome software and trio.
After being a user of the Publisher Beta and being active in this forum, I have collected a list of features that I need for my work (mostly book interior design) and some that others requested. I'm not saying that Serif should provide them in the near future, but I hope it helps them see what's needed and give an outline for other members of the community. And I hope affinity will release an official roadmap for Publisher soon.
    Languages:
Support for CTL: Complex Text Layout, Indic and RTL languages like Arabic and Hebrew CJK: Vertical text and proper punctuation Text:

The office suites market is really saturated, Microsoft office, google docs, LibreOffice, Apple pages/keynotes... I don't see any real benefit from entering such market, especially that it's shifting more towards editing in the cloud right now.

Affinity Publisher still has a long way to add much needed features (e.g. footnotes, span tables...) and improve the user experience, don't expect it to be perfect yet.
Your best workaround is to create a small table, let's 2x2, then select the table and click on the double arrows at the end of the columns and rows, this will allow to enter a specific number for the total columns and rows, this is better creating a large one and then deleting the extra C/R

You can create a table style with different styles for C/R headers and footers, you can then save the style or even save the table with text in it to an asset and then drag and drop it.

Still, tables need a lot of features, especially:
Spanning tables through pages Option to repeat the header when it spans through different pages Calculations inside tables Keyboard input of the number of rows and columns when creating a new table

    Hi @toutou123
Thanks for uploading the log files.  This is what the log tells me: 'The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files\Affinity\Photo.  The installation cannot continue.  Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator.'
Did you try running the setup as Administrator as that should get round this error.

It depends on the level of the user, a graphic designer who studies design and produces work in exchange for money will appreciate the software, and we all know how much of a bargain to have affinity software for $50 and even down to $35 and $40 discounts. Other users might see them just as a nice game to produce cool images or make a document here and there won't value them as much as we do.
While open source software fail to provide professional quality features (having used Inkscape/Gimp and tried Scribus), they still have a value of providing accessible source code for programmers to learn how such software is made and how it works, providing free easy install alternatives, and many libraries/utilities can be even used by commercial software, even Affinity software incorporate a lot of them. Just check 3rd party licenses under Help/About...

Affinity publisher is aimed for professionals who create documents for print, not hobbyists. If you can't make $40 back from your work, it might not be for you in the first place.

You will never be forced to upgrade.  Version 1.x will continue to work even when version 2 is released.  You can choose to upgrade or not depending on if you want any of the new features that will be in version 2

Indd is my publishing tool right now, till Affinity will add RTL support.

You can add page numbers, but adding chapter and section numbers you'll need a feature like InDesgin "Define variable" based on a paragraph or character style and then Insert variable.
Unfortunately, it's not available right now in publisher, I was going to make a feature request post for this but the dev team is busy fixing bugs before official release now instead of adding new features.
I used it before to add chapter titles on the running head, it's very useful too for scientific books and dictionaries/indexes.

You can either copy/paste the text into a text frame, or place a document into a text frame. Then it's the same step, select the text frame, go to the right edge at the bottom, hold shift and left mouse click, this will create additional pages and fill them with linked text.

But waiting to create a new text engine will take a lot of time and Serif is not even considering it.
Also Adobe has two option, "Adobe paragraph composer" and "Adobe world-ready paragraph composer", why doesn't Affinity try to do the same, using their text engine for Latin/Cyrillic text shaping, and using a toolkit to work with another text engine for Complex scripts, This will make the software usable for billions of people until they develop their own solution.
