  1. @ashf sorry, I don't know any. I don't speak Chinese or have work on it too. I speak Arabic and I need RTL language support. I commented because language support is very weak in the Affinity suite and needs improvement for a lot of languages.
  2. An option to place the PDF as a high-resolution raster and or vectorize all text will provide a more flexible solution. In the meantime, try using a pdf printer that vectorizes text, or convert it to high-resolution image until we hear a more detailed answer from Serif.
  3. It's not always possible due to font licenses. A license to use and embed a font in the PDF, allows you to print/read (desktop/eBook license) the file, but not to use it directly. A few software dedicated to PDF editing like Acrobat and a couple of 3rd party ones can use the embedded fonts, while others used to design from scratch like Illustrator and Photoshop can't, despite being made by Adobe, the creator of the PDF format itself. So I don't think they can add this feature because they fall under the 2nd category. An option to vectorize/create outline for all text when placing a PDF should be sufficient to some extent.
  4. What's the name of this software that you used to check which languages are available in the fonts?
  5. That would be nice for people who don't know what they mean.
  6. You can actually do this using decorations in the paragraph panel. However, it'll add an extra rule to the right or left.
  7. Find/replace allows you to find text that has a certain style applied to them, and replace it with a new one.
  8. You don't get the liquify, Develop, tone mapping, and export personas from photo and designer. That's the only drawback that I know of so far. off topic: @carl123 my "123" brother, what do punctuation, spelling, and grammar have to do with Brexit negotiations?
  9. Font Base will allow you to download Google fonts and activate/deactivate them as you like. For contrasting typefaces, you'll have to do your own research, the software is a tool for creative people, but it won't do all of the creative choices for you. You can start with a combin of serif/sans serif fonts, they work very well together.
  10. I really want that feature too, especially if you know most of the features or coming from another desktop publishing software. You don't need to learn what the tool do in the first place. You just need to know how it works in this particular software or catch a feature or 2 you didn't figure by yourself. Also, the tutor guy speaks very slowly, it's no offense, it's actually very good for beginners, but you again if you just need a quick look at how the tools work, 1.5x or 2x speed will really help. And please upload them to youtube too, it has a better buffering than vimeo.
  11. @PeterBates They don't have a software to create ePub books, so I don't think they can do it yet.
  12. I didn't think of that. I'd imagine that working on multiple files in with 3 different personas is complicated enough. Still a better workflow than opening 3 different programs and not being able to preview the changes you made in one software until you save and update in the other.
  13. They're focusing on updating the trilogy software now and maybe adding a DAM software like Lightroom. Video editing is not on their list, at least for the next 2-3 years. You can always use Davinci Resolve/Hitfilm Express, they're free and professional software.
  14. Once you spend some time using the program, you know the 1st icon is Publisher, the 2nd one is Designer, the 3rd one is Photo. You don't need to look at it and guess what personas it is. If you take a work pause, you'll need to know more than which personas you're in, you'll have to spend a minute or 2 to refresh what were you doing and what you should do next.
  15. You have to understand that they're a small company, they don't have many developers. Even if they increase prices, it won't lead to boosted development. What I also think is that they might be delaying some features for version 2.0, so just be patient a little bit.
  16. What would be even better if there were Designer and publisher personas in Photo, and Photo and Publisher personas in Designer.
  17. What I meant is that the software opens always on the publisher persona, if you go the designer persona, you'll that you're the designer persona because you have chosen it. You don't need to check whether you're in it or not. Until you decide to go back to the Publisher persona. And I'm not against improving the interface if it'll help some users.
  18. You can use mouse middle button as a hand tool even when you're in a text frame, but it's actually better since you have to press only one key and not two. After you place an image, you can convert it to a frame picture (check toolbar or right mouse click menu). The frame picture has a lot of features to control both the image and the frame so easily once you figure it out.
  19. Does the color really matter to know which person or tool you are using at any moment? I mean if you click on the photo pecsona, you know that you're in the photo pecsona from your action, and from the tools available around pou, that change is stuck in your mind, and the software doesn't change them randomly for you to check it regularly. The same thing for the tools, and you either know from the keyboard shortcuts you pressed or from you choosing them withe the mouse.
  20. https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/tutorials/publisher/desktop/ Here are the official video tutorials, you can follow them and learn a lot.
  21. You can generate TOC from any set of paragraph styles, and give them different levels, like level 1 for chapters and level 2 for subchaters. You can assign different paragraph styles to each level of the TOC. If you're familiar with InDesign TOC you should pick it up easily. I did it since the Beta without having to look at any tutorial.
  22. First I want to congratulate everyone in Serif for creating this awesome software and trio. After being a user of the Publisher Beta and being active in this forum, I have collected a list of features that I need for my work (mostly book interior design) and some that others requested. I'm not saying that Serif should provide them in the near future, but I hope it helps them see what's needed and give an outline for other members of the community. And I hope affinity will release an official roadmap for Publisher soon. Languages: Support for CTL: Complex Text Layout, Indic and RTL languages like Arabic and Hebrew CJK: Vertical text and proper punctuation Text: Footnotes/Endnotes Insert variables based on paragraph/Character styles/Index entries... Paragraph styles spanning through columns Compatibility: Open IDML files Scripting Tables: Tables Spanning through pages Repeat header when a table span to another page Calculations inside tables RegX: Save RegX Find/Replace Execute Saved RegX Find/Replace from inside paragraph styles eBooks: Export to ePub Option to set HTML tag +/- class for each paragraph style. Export to pure HTML file — I wanna know your idea about implementing HarfBuzz for Complex Text Layout —
