Sample Publisher file?
Distill7 replied to Mark_A's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/tutorials/publisher/desktop/ Here are the official video tutorials, you can follow them and learn a lot. -
You can generate TOC from any set of paragraph styles, and give them different levels, like level 1 for chapters and level 2 for subchaters. You can assign different paragraph styles to each level of the TOC. If you're familiar with InDesign TOC you should pick it up easily. I did it since the Beta without having to look at any tutorial.

First I want to congratulate everyone in Serif for creating this awesome software and trio. After being a user of the Publisher Beta and being active in this forum, I have collected a list of features that I need for my work (mostly book interior design) and some that others requested. I'm not saying that Serif should provide them in the near future, but I hope it helps them see what's needed and give an outline for other members of the community. And I hope affinity will release an official roadmap for Publisher soon. Languages: Support for CTL: Complex Text Layout, Indic and RTL languages like Arabic and Hebrew CJK: Vertical text and proper punctuation Text: Footnotes/Endnotes Insert variables based on paragraph/Character styles/Index entries... Paragraph styles spanning through columns Compatibility: Open IDML files Scripting Tables: Tables Spanning through pages Repeat header when a table span to another page Calculations inside tables RegX: Save RegX Find/Replace Execute Saved RegX Find/Replace from inside paragraph styles eBooks: Export to ePub Option to set HTML tag +/- class for each paragraph style. Export to pure HTML file — I wanna know your idea about implementing HarfBuzz for Complex Text Layout —

Support for Indic Complex Scripts

I guess we'll have to wait until they release their roadmap. -
I just have 2 questions: 1. Other than activating the personas, are there any new features released compared to the latest beta 1.7.1.399? In my account → Downloads & Products Keys, I have 4 Affinity publisher Beta purchases, they're so annoying and useless right now, are there any plan to remove them automatically?

The office suites market is really saturated, Microsoft office, google docs, LibreOffice, Apple pages/keynotes... I don't see any real benefit from entering such market, especially that it's shifting more towards editing in the cloud right now.

Studios / Workspaces

You can make 2 to three tiles of panels on top of each other. But you can't make them collapsable like Adobe at the moment. That might be included in a later release. You should also notice that whenever you have a tool selected, you can toggle the panels from the toolbar most of the time. Selecting text, for example, will put the paragraph and character panels in the toolbar where you can open and close them. This might be your best way. -
In text editors, all functions all typed using text tags, so a fuzzy finder is very useful. But in graphic design, all interaction is with the objects in canvas, you need to pick a tool, which there are not many of them, then select a layer and modify it based on its type. Also, there is no graphic design software that has such features to my knowledge. If you want to increase productivity, use keyboard shortcuts and customize them to your liking, you can work very efficiently this way.

A Polite Tables Rant
Distill7 replied to Hangman's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Affinity Publisher still has a long way to add much needed features (e.g. footnotes, span tables...) and improve the user experience, don't expect it to be perfect yet. Your best workaround is to create a small table, let's 2x2, then select the table and click on the double arrows at the end of the columns and rows, this will allow to enter a specific number for the total columns and rows, this is better creating a large one and then deleting the extra C/R You can create a table style with different styles for C/R headers and footers, you can then save the style or even save the table with text in it to an asset and then drag and drop it. Still, tables need a lot of features, especially: Spanning tables through pages Option to repeat the header when it spans through different pages Calculations inside tables Keyboard input of the number of rows and columns when creating a new table -
First, make you sure you install that custom color profile or copy it to windows color profiles folder: C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color From there you can choose that color profile from the "new document" window, under "color" tab "color profiles" drop-down menu. Or when you have already created a document: "file" menu, choose "document setup" then you'll face the same options: Or when you export to a PDF: Click on "more..." button (on the bottom left next to "export" and "cancel" click on the "ICC profile" drop-down menu and choose your CMYK profile from there. And remember; make you sure you install that custom color profile or copy it to windows color profiles folder: C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color BTW, does anyone know how to make images look smaller in a post, all of mine take so much space and I can't figure how to reduce their size.

Thanks for your reply. I have resolved this problem by using a 3rd party uninstaller, it tracked all of the files and registry keys created by affinity and deleted them, then I made a new fresh install and it worked fine. Upon installation, the software asked me for the product code again, it said it's valid but can't write it to affinity folder for 2 times in a row, in the 3rd time it started without prompting the activation window. In miscellaneos, it shows that my software is registered under my eMail. BTW, why did you remove the log files? Do they show the product key in them?

In your word processor (MS Word/LibreOffice Writer) choose "save as..." and then choose rtf file format.

This would be a nice feature as different tasks require different panels. -
A lot of people have been asking for a story editor, where you link the text file so the writer can update the text without you having to reformat it again.

1. You need to create at least 1 page with 1 text frame, then either select it (select the edges, the text marker should not appear), then file > place... And choose your word document; or copy paste the text from word to that text frame. From their go the right side, at the bottom you'll see a red triangle, hold shift and left mouse click it once, it'll create more pages with linked text frames. BTW, this is also doable in InDesign, but slightly different steps. 2. Don't unlink text frames, you'll mess your document. Instead use paragraph styles, master pages, and inline/pinned images to format part/chapter pages.

Well, I said that it works just fine, Id on't need ho reset it.

It works for me, you can place a text instead of a bullet. For example: Publisher Photo Designer Can be turned to the following if you type Affinity in that text case Affinity Publisher Affinity Photo Affinity Designer
