Can somebody please explain how Publisher manages it's linked files? I use a shared remote dropbox area which holds all the links for a file within a directory. This works fine for everyone accessing the file. However, if I move that file, even, say, just one directory up, it loses ALL the links and defaults back to looking for them on my colleagues local computer. Why? I can well understand that if the LINK folder is moved or renamed it's going to confuse the afpub, but why can't the afpub simply remember which directory it needs to look at? Why does moving IT cause a link breakage? Cheers, Tony

Crashes when I try to access Resource Manager
Tony Cotterill replied to Tony Cotterill's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
Well, embarrassingly, I can't remember exactly which files gave me the issue - I'm working on quite a few. Also, I haven't encountered the problem recently, ever since I split the files into smaller sections, so I suspect it is a memory linked issue. I only have 8Gb of RAM and I'm going to look at upgrading it after lockdown. So.. Thanks for your reply but I may just be wasting your time. Let's let it ride for now and if it happens again I'll come back to you. Cheers, Tony -
Crashes when I try to access Resource Manager
Tony Cotterill replied to Tony Cotterill's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
Yes, I believe they do have a fair few linked files, some of which are undoubtedly afphotos. Is this a problem? Should I not link to afphoto files? -
Any idea why Affinity would suddenly start to crash when I try to access the Resource Manager window? It's not happening ALL the time but mostly, and for certain files. I have attached what I believe is the relevant crash report. Grateful for any help, Cheers, Tony 0dd10615-4703-4e96-8e3c-3340eb3008a4.dmp

Hi all, There have been previous posts about picture frames not retaining the properties when linked images are externally modified. This is a very annoying feature but I see no clear answer, yet. If you have a document with hundreds of image boxes of the same linked image, for example, and you need to change that image you do NOT want to then have to go through each picture box and 'remind' Affinity of the property setting. Even if the 'Scale to Maximum Fit' property is still highlighted you still have to re-click to remind it. Should it not default to whatever setting you gave the picture frame in the first place?

Publisher hangs after deleting a master page
Tony Cotterill replied to Craig74's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
I am also getting a similar problem. Quite consistently with Publisher 1.8.2 on Windows 10. I have files with multiple masters and deleting any one of them hangs the program without issuing a crash report. -
Hi Dan, Now here's the thing. I tried this the day before yesterday and got the expected crash. (Like a doofus I completely forgot to check the crash log). I then uninstalled and went back to 1.7.3. Just now, I have done another update to !.8.2 in order to try to generate a crash log, and, of course, the bugger seems to be working just fine now!😕 So... I don't know why it now seems to be okay, or why I got the crash on Monday. I guess I need my mate Timo to update again and experiment. If we get any firther problems we'll send crash reports. Cheers, Tony

So. I tried it anyway but unfortunately with no joy. The same problems seem to still be apparent in 1.8.2 . So I've gone back to 1.7.3 again. I realise work is probably not currently progressing at the same pace in our strange situation, but please can somebody let us know when it has been resolved. We have a lot of work locked up in inaccessible files. Cheers, Tony

Hi everyone. Just a thought about masters. Do masters always have to go at the back of a page? I know historically in layout packages this is the case but Affinity has been pushing some boundries so I wondered. If I have a multi layered Master and need variable layers on subsequent pages to go UNDER pages on the master's common layers is this possible? I suspect not ATM, but it's worth asking someone who knows. Cheers, Tony

Sorry Dan, Try this one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/694y2kqtu0de2qo/Factions - Backup.afpub?dl=0 However, further inspection reveals it may not be the file that's responsible. I am now getting really strange things happening. This, and another file are causing me crashes sometimes, and sometimes the 'can't get beyond the first page' problem. Sometimes the first page problem only applies to my art tablet, and sometimes the whole computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the whole Affinity suite and even running just Publisher I still get this problem. Is there a problem with version 1.8 running on Windows 10 update 1909? Cheers, Tony

Hi, I have a problem when I try to load a certain file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/21au0k2vcit39wi/Factions.afpub?dl=0 This file crashes to desktop which never happened before updating to 1.8 My friend is able to open and save it successfully from another remote computer but he is unable to scroll beyond page 1 and half. Many other similar files are okay. I have recently installed Designer and he has installed Photo in case that is causing some sort of conflict. We've tried renaming and resaving and even as a template but with no joy. Can anybody help with any suggestions? What is wrong with this file. Cheers, Tony

Hi. I am having a few issues with Publisher for which I can't find answers. It's almost certainly something I'm doing wrong but I can't work it out... Question 1: I have a file with outer glow effect on some images and some text. These come out fine on a normal PDF output but if I use the flattened preset they lose the outer glow completely. Any idea why? Question 2: Here is a link to a print proof file I receved back from a printer. If you look closely you will see a faint grey box round pretty much everything. Even text boxes. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1trvv7np4ruml0j/Box 11.25.pdf?dl=0 All of these items are transparent images and there is no sign of these boxes either in Publisher or the PDF that Publisher creates - only in the printer's print proof. Is this something I am doing wrong, or is it the printer's fault? Cheers, Tony

Hi, Can anyone explain why I am unable to toggle the show bleed off when I have a master file showing? I have a highly graphical master pulled out to the bleed, on top of which I add pages. When I try to turn off the bleed to see the result it doesn't go away. I have deduced it's because the master file bleed is not turning off. What am I doing wrong, please? Cheers, Tony
