Sorry to keep coming back to this but I keep attempting to use Document Resize and its just bonkers isn't it?! Even with the bug fixed the implementation is crazy, you can't use it with any confidence at all. Absolutely daft! Definitely just sticking with resizing in Preview.
To the guys and gals at Affinity. Please acknowledge our requests to look at the Document Resize implementation you have created and refine it so it is actually useful. As it stands it really does not work as part of any meaningful workflow. Its great that you include all these new technologies to speed up the application but why then slow them down with an ill thought out user interface? I can legitimately open Preview app in MacOS resize an image and reimport it quicker than fiddling with Document Resize in Affinity Photo. On top of that the Resample tick box needs to be removed if it is not going to function based on the settings selected. Also please show the pixel dimensions alongside the print dimensions and make them live update. Live update throughout the Affinity Suite is a big thing that is missing and should have been included from the get go. Typing in a value in one box then having to click inside another box to get the value you've just entered in the first box to update really is very poor decision in my book. Thats yet another click thats completely not required but you insist on all these extra clicks all throughout the Affinity suite that are simply not required! Your apps are brilliant, its the UI and the experience using it that is very poor indeed. I'd be happy to write up a report on what I think could be improved on the side of the UI. Just message me and I'll be happy to oblige.

The question asked at the start of this thread was:
Basically if i have an image at 10x6cm at 150ppi how do i make it 5x3 @ 300ppi?
In the new 1.7 Photo video tutorial on resizing (see second post in this thread) at 2min 45sec it is clearly stated that if you wish to change just a documents DPI value without altering pixel size, then ‘Resample’ must be turned Off.
In the attached video this dose not work.
Every time with ‘Resample’ turned Off, the image size gains pixels when going from 150dpi to 300dpi.
As DPI is simply meta data in an image telling a printer what it should be aiming for. Altering just that on its own should not lead to pixels being added to an image.
    Clearly something isn’t working right...

The worst possibility is that it is of design (but with a simple bug, which means they will never reconsider the overall inadequacy of the design - so we will still prefer photoshop for resizing.

I still have the problem even with your file. It happens across the 3 different Macs!!! I simply can't use Photo and no one at Affinity is getting back to me. Its ridiculous. It IS a bug but Im also struggling to comprehend their implementation on resizing/resampling. Their method seems to actually change the data in the image by adding pixels for increasing resolution and removing pixels to lower it. That in effect is destroying the integrity if the image and should not be happening. All the data that is required is already within the image its just the meta data that needs amending to say its now 'Xmm' x 'Xmm' @ 300 dpi.
I acknowledge your info about the pixel dimensions being different to mine. I rounded them out to make it a little easier for the post.
I simply can't use the app until its fixed and I'm seriously considering a refund now which I'm very reluctant to do.

Im using new 1.7 too but I've had the issue right from the early betas. I just thought it was me being stupid and not understanding Affinity's implementation. Basically its just adding pixels to the document which is essentially upscaling which in effect is reducing the resolution technically if i'm not mistaken?
This is the main reason why I've not fully adopted Affinity Photo yet as I can't guarantee the resolution of imagery.

It shouldn't but it is. Look at the top left of the Affinity screenshots. Its just adding pixels, even the file size goes up. Surely the print size i.e. 10cm should come down if the resolution is upped?

Hi, Ive been using Affinity since the very beginning on and off and now that the full suite is pretty much ready for prime time is time for me to take these apps seriously and start to implement them into my workflow at work. Theres one thing that is stopping me though and its Document Resize in Photo.
In Photoshop if I increase the resolution the size of the image shrinks because I'm basically cramming more pixels into 1 inch. That makes perfect sense to me. In Affinity Photo if i choose to increase the resolution the image size also increases which is the opposite of what i expect and therefore is not actually increasing the resolution its just making the image bigger which infact is lowering the resolution.
Can someone please explain how Affinity resizes/resamples things as I'm completely stumped and I've been using Photoshop and explaining resolution, dpi etc to clients for years but this has me completely stumped.
Basically if i have an image at 10x6cm at 150ppi how do i make it 5x3 @ 300ppi?

I resize about the same as you per day haha. I produce over one hundred printed publications and about 2000 adverts a year. Right now I have 165 current projects on the go. Just little old me. The smallest inefficiency in workflow adds up to massive amounts of time wasted with needless mouse clicks amid quirky interfaces.
Below is my current load. Each one of those is a 36 page printed publication averaging about 10 adverts each. EVERY single image needs resizing and adjusting. I need efficient software.

I'm on the fence with you.

Well I see your point, but it kind of falls down when there are two support staff posting in the "How many people work on Affinity" thread.
I'm not saying they should have time for an immediate answer, but a quick post to acknowledge this thread has been seen and is being looked into surely isn't too much to ask? This is after all the official support for paying customers.

I can't remember the number versions so I'm probably wrong on 'prior to 1.0'. What i meant was i was part of the public beta's for all the apps prior to release and even before Photo was officially released as non beta retail I had the issue that we are discussing but Affinity say is by design. Hence, I'm assuming, why its still not been fixed and now simply gets ignored.
Basically we have a very expensive RIP that throws a wobbly if any images are below 300dpi. Due to Affinity's bug AND implementation of document resize I can't get any images past it so I'm unable to use Affinity Photo. Simple as that.

If would be nice, if AF photo displays the resolution of an image at a specific size like PS do it in the bottomleft of an imagewindow.

So you can decide on one look if the image is printable. The image in the sample isnt (72dpi on imagesize 224 x 338 mm).

Actually I have noticed it is very inconsistent. It works but VERY rarely. Most times it simply increases the document size. Im glad its not just me being daft. Since the Beta version Ive had this problem and just thought it was me not understanding how Affinity are implementing it. I have to use Photoshop to check files are correct so then I simply end up just using Photoshop.
I agree. You should be able to see the pixel dimensions alongside the print size so you can tell right away what's actually happening. Its daft having to set the units to pixels then open resize again set the units to centimetres just to check that its done what you wanted it to do. In my case it rarely does.
As much as I love Affinity's products there are a few illogical decisions on a few items that just don't make sense and slow down your workflow. The eyedropper implementation and the tab sequence in the transform window two good examples. It tabs from X position to Width to Y position to Height. Whats all that about?! Anyway im getting off topic in my own thread lol.

InDesign if i imported a bitmap TIFF file I could set its colour quite easily simply by selecting the image and choosing a colour from the palette. This proves very useful when working with simple logos and symbols that require being a specific colour. You could also set the background colour of the box the logo resides in just as easily. So with a few clicks a black and white logo could become green with an orange background for example without having to manipulate the original file.
Ive been looking and still not found a definitive answer for doing this in APUB. How does one work with greyscale/bitmap TIFFs and easily convert their colour within APUB without affecting the linked file?

This file isn't the correct format, just using it for illustration (I don't have access to the bitmaps at present so can't experiment) however the look is basically what im talking about. I want to change the black parts to a spot colour and have control over the colour of the bounding box. In Quark (shudder) it was very simple, InDesign a little more involved but simple enough. Import the Bitmap, click on the bounding box, choose a colour and it would fill the box with that colour. Select the bitmap within the box, select a colour and the bitmap would then be that colour. Then when it came to colour separations you knew for certain that the icon was the colour it should be. Using blends, masks and CMYK images does not guarantee correct colour and is also a lot more involved.

As far as I am aware none of the Affinity products work well with 1bit bitmap files. For example, 1bit high resolution tiff files @1200ppi do not render properly at their original resolution when output as a PDF. Affinity Photo does not even support 1bit bitmap files.
1bit bitmap support is just not there yet in either Photo or Publisher. We will have to wait and see, but I have an inkling that this situation will not be resolved before version 2.0, or perhaps even later than that.

Hi Guys. We print directly from InDesign using our RIPs PPD file. From InDesign print dialogue we can choose which plates to send to the RIP.
When we send a four colour document the rip receives/creates a plate for each colour. The plate is produced on our plate maker and manually put onto our litho printer and off you go.
Theres no need for us to create PDFs. The RIP has a hold queue and when we are ready to create the plates we then send them from the rip software to the plate maker (just like sending a file to print).

Publisher doesn't seem to have any professional printing options that I would expect for output to a printing press. As long as printing is tied into Apple's default printing dialog, it's going to be much too limited for this purpose. The built-in system overly relies on popup menus too which are quite annoying to work with.
Among many other things, some of the basic professional print features missing are:
Page size controls directly in the dialog (imagine printing a smaller document onto a larger plate for a printing press) Control page position (centre, centre vertically, horizontally etc) Enable/Disable Print blank pages Bleed - add in option to use document bleed or specify a custom bleed Separations control, ink aliases etc. Crop marks "edge only" option - I'm not sure why this is even an option as the definition of crop marks to me IS edge only, but regardless, when enabled or disabled the preview box doesn't update to show the difference. Better visual aides in the print preview - see InDesign, for example the bleed area is shown in pink and the document edge and direction is clearly defined Flip, Negative, Screening Controls - all of which are vital to press InDesign has it's own Print dialog, and I remember QuarkXpress did too before I switched many years ago.
