softsound reacted to Richard S. in Your Affinity 2020 wishlist
I simply cannot understand why it is still not possible to import colour palettes in either photo or designer on iPad.
Getting really frustrated now, what is the point in introducing new features, when an absolute basic function is completely absent.
I love Affinity products and want so much to swap over completely to Affinity, but glaring omissions like this prevent me 🙁

softsound reacted to Richard S. in Your Affinity 2020 wishlist
Thanks, but I’m simply referring to the hundred plus .afpalette colour swatches I have made, and now have sitting in my iCloud.
I have no access to any other devices, apart from the iPad I am using, so have absolutely no way of getting them into photo on iPad.
Having to resort to a long winded workaround requiring 2 different devices (iPad and Desktop) and 2 copies of Affinity Photo (one for each platform), just to get access to palettes is unacceptable for a professional software application.

softsound reacted to simon60 in Fon Size in the GUI.
Please add an option to increase font size in the gui,the default is tiny and for people like me with eye problems it's very hard to read. Isn't there a requirement to make software fully accessible? If there is , surely text size would be an issue?
I was very disappointed when I opened the software for the first time , if I'd known this it would have influenced my purchase...............thanks

+1 : Vector patterns are way more versatile than bitmap based ones, and implementing them would also improve compatibility SVG.

softsound got a reaction from CanRau in Emoji support
Just use an emoji font and it will work fine. I made a blog post covering this here. I even cover kaomoji.
Not very many emoji fonts exist but I recommended 3 of them in my blog post. I also show an example of how I use emoji's in game design using Affinity Publisher.
The 3 fonts I recommend are:
Google's Noto
OpenMoji
and
Code2000 (This one may have copyright issues so I would not use it professionally)
Now of course if the font doesn't support the glyph it won't work but all of these fonts are quite large with code2000 being one of the largest in the world so you should have some support.
This method does not support fancy color though as affinity does not support that, so you'll have to use basic font colors, but you can always convert into a shape and recolor it if you want.
Considering emoji's are updated every year you may not have the latest emoji's in these fonts but you will find a lot of support still.

softsound reacted to michalmph in View objects outside artboard.
Elements that exceed the artboard are not visible on bleeds. Lack of control of what appears on the bleeds means artifacts on print artwork edges when machine-cut in the printhouse.
Also, most likely a bug: I'm currently doing a looping design using symbols (via this thread) and the symbols turn on and off non-deterministically when I place them outside of the artboard, aligned to the artboard's edges.
Suggestion to add pre-visualization of elements outside of the artboard on toggle (for example the \ key, mentioned before - clip to canvas visibility).
Process of working with a clipping mask to toggle artboard visibility in Illustrator worked well, currently with Designer it causes issues.
I'm not sceptical to the feature itself, it seems useful, although requiring a completely different workflow. The way I see it is that artboards in Designer are something different than in Illustrator, and are more of a print preparation thing rather then design tools. Considering that this thread exists, could we perhaps get a workflow demonstration video that covers the expected use of artboards in context of the issues people posted here?

softsound reacted to Dave Vector in Unsexy Enhancements for Sexy Workflow - Affinity 1.8 - A Wishlist
After using Affinity products professionally for quite some time and observing the development team’s patience and openness to new ideas on the forums, I have a few “unsexy” suggestions to enhancements to take the tedium out of repetitive tasks and keep designers organized.
I am truly impressed with Affinity’s products. In gratitude for that, I am inspired to create this Wishlist with some new ideas, and to chime in with some support for the classic, already-suggested ones. Thanks for reading/listening!
Most of these suggestions can span all the affinity desktop products some are Designer specific.
1. Organize Assets, Swatches, Brushes, Style Libraries with an edit mode, using an interface like the the "Presets Manager" in Shapes, to allow for re-arranging, renaming, moving between categories.
2. Stoke Pressure Profiles can be saved on an application level. Organize and manage, with an interface like the "Presets Manager" in Shapes. It’s all about efficiency, and not having to reinvent the wheel (stroke!) every time.
3. Layers Panel – Select objects and groups and rename them with a multi-rename tool. Instantly get organized so you and even other people can understand the layer groups and objects in your Affinity document. Interface would allow the user to add a numerical counter as a prefix or suffix when renaming. Handy before using Export Persona to create some basic naming conventions.
4. Sort Layer Groups or artboards in the Layers Panel alphabetically, ascending, descending. Yes, it will change the arrangement order, but properly organized groups can make complex file layers much easier to navigate. Handy for PDF Exporting where the order of pages depends upon the artboard order.
5. Save selection sets that can select items spanning multiple artboards and also within groups. Often similar objects need to be adjusted or moved, but they are on multiple artboards or nested in other functional groups. This can quickly solve that problem.
6. Select by object trait (stroke color, stroke thickness, fill colour). A handy way to quickly select and adjust objects with similar properties. Otherwise selecting these can be a nightmare in complicated projects.
7. Select and replace non global identical colours. Does your client want all the red elements blue? What would they look like in teal or taupe? Play rapidly to your heart’s content.
8. Search Assets Panel ACROSS BOTH categories and subcategories, results displayed as filtered choices. Do you have multiple categories/libraries and need to find the right icon fast? This can save you time. Currently a search has to be made within each asset category, which can take some time if you have multiple asset categories.
9. Handy Show Grid checkbox in Isometric Studio Panel. True, you can use a keyboard shortcut, but it would be nice if this button was upfront. Handy when you are working in Isometric view you have to turn on and off the grid to see the artwork uncluttered. Chances are you have the panel open to constantly switch planes anyways…
I hope this helps to add votes for the unsexy underdog features. 😊

While our loved Affinity Designer still has a long way ahead, and it has plenty of bugs and issue, I would like to thank those developers who are, I believe, working hard to make the best they can, during this hard time almost everywhere.
To all members here, Take care, stay safe.
Thank you

softsound got a reaction from Jowday in Top 3 things I want from Publisher 2020
Text style copy & paste ( like in google docs, it is called the Paint Format tool) I do not want to create a new style every single time I am working with text, sometimes I just want to copy and paste a style! I know this is more word processor based but it's such a nice option to have, hands down useful. There is a reason text editors have styles and paint format/format paint (Google Docs/Word) options. And it seems like it would be super easy to implement. I don't want to clutter my global text styles with two-three pieces of text that I want to be the same style. Just make a button like those word processors. Story editor - The ability to go through text and copy and paste parts of it out would be really helpful... Or better yet let me link to a google doc somehow. I know this is a bit of a stretch but hey, thought I'd throw it out there. I have to copy and paste text a lot and just creating a text filler block and being able to update that outside the page would be nice. Table updates - This needs a lot of work to really be that useful, but minor things like highlighting the cell you are in would be nice, adding a checkbox to link stroke on outside & inside stroke would be nice (even though it would only save me a few clicks I would like the option), the ability to right click on row > resize all rows to the currently selected row would be nice... Actually is there even a way to alter all rows or columns? It wasn't very clear to me if there was... Also it wasn't super clear how to affect the whole table at once, like I get I can select all the cells by clicking in the first cell and dragging to the last cell but if I had a very large table this could be a problem. Having a global table option and control would be nice because what if I want to hide all inner table dividers? Also having some default table styles would be nice, just a few basic colors which I can edit later because a lot of tables have different colored rows to make them easier to read. Including one or two different table formats with a global color option for alternate rows would be very handy. Having the ability to make nice tables would really really be amazing. Perhaps I missed something though and these options are available elsewhere. Also headers on tables would be great. Would be nice after some of those updates are fixed:
Footnotes and endnotes. While they have not become a big issue yet, they would be very nice to have as I aim to be creating a manual down the line and don't want to have to work this in manually.
I work as a book publisher and I know Publisher isn't actually built for that but it's been really helpful and I think working on a few of these additions would help my workflow considerably.

New Features and Major Improvements
IDML Import
This build includes an importer for the IDML ((Adobe) InDesign Markup Language) file format. Many entities, attributes and properties are not currently imported. In general if a feature currently has no native support it is unlikely to be imported entirely successfully. In addition to this, please find below a list highlighting features we know are not currently supported fully.
Document
- Document User details
Spread / Page Items
- Promoted master page items
- Overprint properties
- Arrowheads
- Text on path
Transparency / FX
- Directional Feather
- Gradient Feather
Text Frames
- Content transparency / FX for text vs text + frame
- First baseline offset
Story Items
- Text layout can differ due to differences in composition and metric vs optical kerning
- TOC
- Index
- Page number fields
- Hyperlinks
XLSX Import
This build includes an importer for the XLSX (Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet) file format. Excel files are placed as tables. The following are not currently supported.
- Formulae are imported as their calculated result value, which Excel stores in the file alongside the formula
- Local formatting is imported, but global Table Styles currently are not
- Overflowing cell content is handled differently in that Excel allows content of an overflowing cell to draw on top of adjacent cell if the cells are empty
Column Rules
The facility to add (vertical) rules / lines between columns in a multi-column text frame. The rules can be configured via the Text Frame Panel

softsound got a reaction from SrPx in Does Affinity offer export to pdf/x-1a:2001?
Actually it appears that pdf/x-1a:2003 works fine for IngramSpark checks!
Don't use pdf/X-3:2003 just use pdf/x-1a:2003 and it clears the checks. I looked a little further into the file type and it appears it that covers PDF/X‑1a (2001 and 2003).
Since I illustrate children's books I also have to set the color profile to CMYK as well as a heads up to anyone else looking at this problem.

softsound got a reaction from PixelEngineer in Does Affinity offer export to pdf/x-1a:2001?
Are you thinking of adding this soon as IngramSpark is pretty standard for producing indie hardbound books, they have registered over 7 million books and are rather well known.
It's like saying you won't be supporting Barnes & Nobles, it's pretty big. I haven't seen too many other hardbound book publishers that give me the options they do at their price.
Considering you have the other formats how hard would it be to add pdf/x-1a:2001?
