  1. I've been searching the forum regarding this problem. Yes, the Clone Tool is missing. A Pixel Layer is active and I'm in Pixel Persona As you can see in the screenshot attached, there is no Clone or Band Aid Tool, nor is there one to drag into the toolbar in the Customize Tools Window. I am using version 1.8.3 Can someone throw me a bone here?
  2. Thanks to all who jumped in to help me out here. The issue indeed is printing a pdf vs. exporting a pdf, with exporting being the way to go to avoid rasterizing any part of the placed object. Thanks again to you all! I look forward to joining with you in this community. Graham
  3. Hello Haakoo. You have one more step... Print it out to PDF and zoom in like I did in the image I submitted.
  4. RCR, To simplify the issue, here is a new file. One is placed, the other is copy/pasted. The placed file is an Affinity Designer native file. It consists of one path.
  5. The file is 100% paths with a clipping mask over the thin lines. The thin lines have variable width assigned to them. Nothing more.
  6. RCR I'm sorry, I am not going to discuss the semantics of the file. It is what it is, whether or not you care to believe it. Placed items get rasterized. I've been doing this for over 20 years, I know what I'm talking about. Please believe that and offer a solution if you have one.
  7. Hey V_kyr. The placed file is also a native Designer file. At this point, I'm curious as to whether or not others can replicate this issue. If not, it means I'm doing something wrong here.
  8. Thank you, Walt. That was an interesting way to do it. Have you used that method much, and if so, under what circumstance? However, I took your advice and re-did the template. It seems a more straightforward approach, and I think it all boils down to the fact that I want to see my numbers going from top to bottom, and AD works from bottom to top.
  9. I realize they're not exactly to scale, but they're close enough to show that one is rasterized and the other is not.
  10. I'm currently trying to create a multipage document with Placed files on every page. A Placed item is rasterized on the final PDF output, whereas the same file that is pasted into the multipage document prints out with all vector art intact. Is this a limitation of AD or am I doing something wrong? The attached image illustrates the issue. Granted, this is an extreme closeup of the PDF output. But that is really beside the point. In my line of work, raster imagery is not an option. I need that vector! Yes, I "could" copy/paste all my docs, but that gets really messy and really RAM intensive on big files.
  11. New to AD, so far I like it. I've been using illustrator for 20 years, though, so transitioning has been a learning experience... but a good one. It's been nice to get away from some of Illustrator's "this is how you gotta do it" to a more straight forward approach. I do technical drawings for patent clients. Typically, these drawings span across multiple pages, thus the need for artboards. In the process of learning how to create multiple artboards, I've run across a problem exemplified in the attached file: I choose "Artboards" in the Range section of the Print DIalog Box. When the PDF is output, the numbering is reversed... Page 16 to Page 1. Is there a simple way to get the numbering right? Also... to the programmers, it would be awesome if the "Range" section of the Print Dialog was functional when "Artboards" is selected. As this file will eventually be a master template, some jobs don't have 16 pages, and some jobs get more pages added to them as the job progresses. MASTER Version 5 4TH try.afdesign
  12. Thanks Walt, I figured it out 5 minutes after posting my query. I was selecting the individual paths, then copy/paste. What I should have done is highlight all the layers (in the Layers panel), then copy/paste. Works perfectly!
  13. I too work this way. Is there an easy way to copy/paste to a new document and retain layers? Retaining layers is vital to me. Can this be done?
  14. I've got a similar issue... maybe this is the same bug. I'm trying to create a library of strokes with each stroke being of variable width (think of a stroke and using the "Pressure Profile" on it). I can create a Style Category and add one of my custom strokes to it, but from then on, I cannot add any others. Another strange thing is that once a style is selected in the Styles Panel, it will remain selected even after deselecting the spline. If I make another document active then go back to my working doc, THEN it will be deselected.
  15. I LOVE AG's plugins. I see the difficulty of integrating or adding on as a plugin, but hope something happens.
