  1. The problem is while Affinity Designer may recognize the layers, your printer or a client's printer is more likely to be using an Adobe product. The compatibility issue is quite critical. I would love to use Designer and Affinity Publisher as alternatives to Adobe's CC but that isn't possible in most cases without restructuring documents in Illustrator. The PDFs provided have a single layer with nested layers - in Adobe language that is a group and they would still require restructuring for Until Affinity makes this a tool that can be used in professional projects, Illustrator still needs to be the go to application since Freehand was killed. However, for the moment QuarkXpress is quickly surpassing Indesign in version 8 and the upcoming version 9. It's not cheap but you own it....
  2. Exporting to .eps or .pdf does not maintain the layer structure necessary for printers to make separations. Certainly you can export as a .eps or .pdf and restructure it in Illustrator, but what's the point of designing in Designer if restructuring the file in illustrator is required. This Issue should be Priority 1 to make this a professional tool instead of a hobbyist application.
  3. PSD or SVG for package design? I don't think so. Log layer support as a requested feature. Without it it's unusable for me professionally - just something to play with.... I should have investigated this more before purchase as I own both Designer and Photo there are issues between both Designer and Photo in PSD format when reopened in PS.
  4. here are some screenshots and the .eps reopened in Affinity Designer Untitled2.eps
  5. Hello, I am a package designer and decided to try Affinity Design as an alternative or even a replacement to Illustrator. However, when I export to a .eps file or .pdf (print) file and open it in Illustrator to verify my file structure I see the layers have been flattened. Am I doing something wrong or is does AF Designer not have an option to preserve layers on export? Like many designers I would like to have an alternative application to Illustrator. Preserving layers is a top priority.
