  1. I did some tests and I think it has to do with the outline thickness of 0,1 pt. If I change that to 0,5 pt the problem is over it seems. Still no solution for me as the Publisher documents are created at @ 10% of the print production (which I normally do for big wall prints in exhibitions). But the outline thickness requires at least 0,5 pt it seems on this test
  2. Hi Stokerg, I'll simplified my file to 1 page and 1 master page and have attach it plus the pdf result. TEST.pdf
  3. thanks for asking Walt, it's the Monotype - TradeGothicNextLTPro-Bd.otf, Version 2.00, obtain @ MyFonts in a Linotype The Foundation Collection. I check the font @ Myfonts and the latest version is still 2.00
  4. When exporting form Publisher to PDF, a problem occurs with the number 8 and letter B, when using a outline in text stylers (fonts color & decorations). The 8 and B inner outlines 'collapse' and becomes a fill. Problem doesn't happen with g, 9, a ect, only wit the 8 and B (2 holes). Problem doesn't happen when I do not use a outline. Exporting with embedded fonts or text as curves doesn't make a different. iMac M1 Monterey 12.6.3, Publisher 2.04
  5. Hi Lee D, thanks for your reply. the latest workflow as an example: publisher document, 2 pages; spread dimension: 2100 x 2600 MM; Color: ISO Coated V2 (or FOGRA 39); Images: linked; Per page: Layer with 1 RGB image @ 300 dpi full size background; Layer On top 2 lines text converted to curves; No layer effects; Publisher prefs: RAM limit 10.000 MB; Disk usage warning 180.000 MB; Undo limit 10; view quality bilinear best quality; dither gradients; file recovery 300 seconds. No apps running in the background, no wife of internet connection. opening the document; 2 seconds rendering the image in the spread; between minimal 120 seconds and never File: export command: spinning the wheel of death while rendering the spread image: 140 seconds until export menu arrives; Export PDF; only page 1: with prefs: down sample image above 300 dpi, compression 90; convert to cmyk colorspace; ‘export item’ menu arrives after 20 seconds of freeze; cpu use starts at 17% and build up to 45%, then drops to more or less a table 20% RAM usage 16GB; memory left ~ 120 MB; export of 1 page finished after; 8 minutes; no memory alerts this time; file size pdf: 593 MB But if I don’t limit Punlisher the differences where this time: it’s faster rendering the spread but CPU peaks at 50 degrees; then drops to more or less a table 20%; export of 1 page still not finished after more then 20 minutes; I forced quit this time after 25 minutes The third time, with Publisher RAM limited again to 10 GB was remarkable faster. And finished the pdf in 4 minutes. It’s quite unpredictable so to say.
  6. Hi, Since a few months I use the Affinity Suite on an Apple M1 iMac 16 GB Big Sur 11.6. And I noticed huge memory problems: using all of the 16 GB and all of my 500 GB HD. Before that I had an intel Apple 8 GB quad Quore late 2015. I design exhibitions so my spreads are often in a large format like 15 x 5 M, but they are not high res, often 100-144 dpi. When I design a book, the .afpub size can be above 1000MB but these 1 page files are less. My latest spread occurring problems was 4,2 x 5 M, 100 DPI, CMYK, a picture layer and 2 lines of vector text, no layer effects. If lots of pictures & transparency in the design: before exporting the press ready pdf, I do exported the pictures layer to a single png or jpg to avoid transparency rip problems, and import that file, or files, back in Publisher. Most of the time that was and still seems the best practice. And if size-wise necessary (pdf max size), I use a spread scaled 10% (1000-1440 dpi) of the final printed result. A press ready CMYK PDF is always less the 800 MB. My old intel 8GB would do the job. Not fast but that's ok. My new Apple M1 16 GB - surprisingly- freezes often and I noticed huge memory problems and alerts: using all of the 16 GB RAM and all of my 500 GB SSD to produce a single pdf. After that I limited my RAM usage and undo limit (to 10) in the Publisher preferences. This helped a bit. I also do save a file more often, quit sometimes and restart Publisher. This helps to get my free memory (200GB) on my SSD back instead of the 10GB I sometimes left with (but not by written files). But I really thought why can't this new combo do the job? Any users experiencing the same issues? Or know a solution?
  7. thanks @walt.farrell I'll solve it the way you suggest it. find en replace only the 1st, 2nd, 3th, 4th, 5th, 6th, 6th, 8th, 9th and replace it via format ordinals is the easiest pragmatic solution I think
  8. Not sure if this is a bug in Affinity Publisher 1.9.3. OSX 11.0.1. … settings: Text styles / paragraph styles / figures / ordinals checked text in paragraph: (a new edition) (2018, 4th edition) result: I'm a bit surprised by the (a in superscript. Is this a bug or is there a workaround? Doing all the suffixes in the book by hand is rather time consuming 🤯 But may be I'm overlooking something
  9. Affinity Publisher 1.7.3 OSX 10.14.6 Created 4 master pages in new print press ready document. Each master pages has a different custom size: A 450x1900 MM B 450x2200 MM C 450x3000 MM D 1600x1200 MM Publisher give document page 1 always the first entered master page (A). Adding a second page via "add pages" (after of before page 1 doesn't matter for this issue) and master page C selected via the pull down menu does: . indeed result in a new page . and indeed the mouse over indicate the name of the chosen master page C . and content placed in master page C is showed on the new added page . but spread dimensions are not of master page A but that of master page A 🥺 Clearing a page master setting and then applying another master wil still not give the right dimensions corresponding chosen master. I know a can change every spread individual: but I like to control that for all particular pages at once via Masterpages. Can I conclude that it is not possible to work with a document with multiple sized pages controlled and updated in size by multiple sized master pages? test.afpub
  10. Off course there is always a way working around like this. Like layer blending (multiply). But it will ask more CPU while working on the design and when exporting it as a pdf (with complex transparanties involved)
  11. First of all: Affinity I'm very impressed by the publisher beta. Looks like Affinity will be my next creative suite soon. One thing I didn't find out yet is how to make a PMS mono colored flyer (or book or …) with mono colored raster images. I used to do that very simple in ID CC by using bitmap raster images saved as a psd and color the image with a PMS swatch but keeping the frame not colored. (see example) The 'white' of the image stays in this case transparant and I can play with overlapping images without the need of transparency effects and blending modes. The result is a light file and safe and easy to print and it looks like vintage screen printing In Publisher I can make an jpg image K (black) and fill the image with a color PMS swatch. But …the image frame still have a white and not a needed transparent background Someone did find out how to do this? Thanks, Danielle
