Looks like the problem is caused by this handle (the one showing black in the image) in the gradient that is used to make the bars in the letters. Try deleting it and then recreating it. Not sure what is actually wrong with it but it seems to be the key.
Thank you. I was going through the stops and I know what it is now but not sure why it would mess things up so much. Somehow one stop had a 99% opacity, which shouldn't really make any noticeable difference but broke everything.

Thanks, I've done that before however this is for a style, so can only be one object.
-
I used the same setting but with a more simple gradient and it was fine but I think I broke it this way, don't think it's me. The main stripes gradient is in the fill, not the fx (that's used just to fill the bottom).
- The first image is with the inner shadow and outline turned off and gradient looks ok.
- Is with inner shadow turned on, which breaks it
- Is with outline turned on and breaks it in a different way
- Both turned on and it looks like the outline image
I've attached the file.

I wish lock would actually lock everything like every other app. It is more than annoying to, for example, find that you've accidentally recoloured objects and don't notice straight away.
When you delete an object or click on the background remember where you were, so select the next/previous one. Don't just have nothing selected so when you add a new object it is either at the top or bottom then you have to work out where it was actually meant to be.

If you are using the gradient editors in the toolbar or the fx panel it's pretty much impossible to edit a complex gradient. Just adding a previous and next gradient stop button or via the keyboard would make it a little easier. Making the panel larger wouldn't be a horrible idea either. You can edit a fill gradient directly in an object but not with precision, perhaps a pop-up when you click on a stop with the edit options, position etc.
Also, on the mac at least, if you need to delete a bunch of stops you have to click a stop, delete, click on the next.... would be easier if the next stop was selected and you could just press delete over and over.

It could be handy so you could fine tune the gradient rather than start entering them and finding they're not quite what you wanted. Anyway it did what I needed it to do but if someone wants to make a fancy pants version then off you go! Now if only you didn't have to type it all in to AD, we had extensions... (and/or better fx's)
-
I needed a quick script to make it easier to create some styles that contained stripes using the fx gradient overlay but it obviously also works with the standard gradient. With just a few stripes and it's easy enough but when you are doing 20 or more with fractional percentages it's too much for my tiny mind to easily keep track of

So just enter the odd and even stripe width percentages then where any padding should go and it lists the gradient stops to add. I copied the output to a text file and as I completed steps just deleted them from the list. It saved me a headache.
Don't look too hard at the messy code, it was a quickie!

Yes there are lots of things they could improve on both brushes and effects, they are pretty basic at the moment. There are lots of styles I'd like to create but just can't.
-
I understand that, they just use png's which is a bit weird really. If it used vectors then size would be irrelevant.

Hi Stuart, Of course it is lol. Sorry I meant vector brushes but will need to see if they will do what I want, I've not looked at raster yet. I was going to create them as vector then export to png. I will keep those dimensions in mind, thanks.
-
Exactly, as it's using a png rather than vector you don't want to go too small as it will effect the quality but it's difficult to decide how large is large enough. I guess it's better to go larger to be sure.
-
I've played with creating brushes but never could decide how large to make the master images. Take a simple example, if you created a pencil brush how large would you make the master png? 50px high, 100...a huge 400px? So how large are you creating your brush masters that will work regardless of paper size? Thanks.

Nice progress. I'm often amazed about the realism that AD allows users to create, which wasn't possible to do in CorelDRAW and AI (which I've used professionally and privately for decades), in spite of the fact that AD is supposedly lacking some functions that the competition has. AD offers great work-arounds that are easily and quickly editable resulting in shorter production times.
It is certainly possible in both those apps if you know how to use them properly and, depending what you're doing and how you like to do it, can be easier. You might decide to go about it in a differently way than in AD but the results will be the same.
The headlight's getting there. I do the same, get fed up of working on one part and do something different for a while. It all gets done in the end.

Hard to tell if it will be photorealistic but good luck. A Rowe racing something, perhaps a Porsche going by an image search???

I forgot I was going to upload the afd file but didn't. So here it is.

No, I had tried that and just tried again to be sure. I hadn't checked before but it doesn't show up on any palettes. I just tried 1.7.0 that was on my old macbook and that is fine on my new one with Catalina, the options menus show as expected.
-
Hi Sean, Thanks. Does that include the options menu disappearing? It's not there even after a restart. I also tried a preferences reset and it didn't help. As it happens I decided I didn't need to export the swatches anyway, which is good!
-
macOS Catalina 10.15.1, AD 1.7.3.
I managed to get the swatches panel to mess up. Not sure how as I only added those swatches but had docked/undocked it too. It sorted out on a restart. However more of a problem is that the options menu isn't there top right so I can't export etc and it's just not there ever.

It doesn't seem to have any pattern, some days it hasn't happened but yesterday it was 3 or 4 times in the end. I can do a vid but there's not much to see really, the pic is basically it.
You can't fix it by just setting the opacity back to 100% or even emptying the fill and re-picking, you do have to restart first. Like I said I'm doing a lot of colour picks, both for flats and gradient stops but I'm not sure it's simply down to how many. After a restart it happened again relatively quickly, an hour or two.

Problem With Gradient/Fx (1.73)

It is. They might still want to see why it happened as setting an opacity on a gradient stop shouldn't really do that. But if it happens again I know what to check!
