Brush hardness

Hi. I just acquired Affinity Designer and I'm having the same issue on pixel persona. I re-downloaded the installer, and re-installed program and the same thing happens. The spray paint has a dotted pattern but no soft edge as in the brush icon or a hard edge with spaces circles (I'm attaching a screenshot)
I'm on a late 2013 iMac on El Capitan OS, Wacom Intuos tablet.
Is this how those brushes should look? Thanks a lot! I'm liking this program a lot! I just hope this can be fixed.
