Interesting. I'll use it all. Your help means a lot to me. Thanks for your time.

Type the @ and pause briefly then start typing the username. The forum software should generate a list of matching names, just select the appropriate one.

Hmmm. Thanks for the basic review. I am now thinking I might wait until AP and AD determine their relationship with pens and pads. However, I'm so anxious to try a pen for the first time in my digital history that I don't know if I can wait. That said, as a new user to pen and pads I don't know if want to have to struggle even with minor incompatibilities or if I'm making something out of nothing relative to all your comments. I'll wait and see if any more interaction comes from the forum and maybe also what Affinity does with the subject matter. I do not know much about this entire digital art arena but it sure seems to me like Affinity is making a very strong run to conquer it's market share - if not the lead, period.

I was just getting ready to make a new topic when I saw this thread. I was wondering how you felt about it's performance with Affinity. Have you also used the pen with a software other than Affinity? Do you see any differences in quality between apps? I assume you are not using any other pen within Affinity. What is it that you gained with the version 2? That's probably the most important question. I am waffling between the v1 and v2 pricing.

You could convert the text to curves, which in turn separates each letter to its own layer, from there you could adjust the layers parameters like opacity blend modes and add filters.

Convert the text to Curves and you will then get a group with each individual letter on its own layer which you can manipulate without affecting the other letters

Well, . . . I've done it again. It seems like, on this forum and others, every time I can't figure something out within 10 minutes - I create a new thread. After the thread goes public I go back to the app and try a few of my own ideas . . . (of which I have no idea where I get the ideas from) . . . while I wait for forum replies. Then, strangely, I seem to figure it out. So, I go back to post my own discovery and find that Psenda and John Rostron suggest the Mesh Warp Tool. Wow, how coincidental - I had just found that out for myself.
Henceforth - in the future I have decided to trick myself. I will open WORD and type in an imaginary NEW TOPIC. Then I'll save it to my desktop. Then I'll go back to said application and discover my own solution. . . . Unreal!

Yeah, . . . I think I'll just teach myself to be in acceptance of an already well designed program, learn AP as it is, and not try to reinvent the wheel.

None of this is really elementary. Work has been done on these problems for at least 30 years.
This is an over simplification. If the project depends on photo or artistic images, Photo will probably be better. If clean shapes, smooth gradients, and transparency fades on those do most of the job, go w. Designer. But most work has some overlap, so both apps have elements of the other.
    To choose the starting point.
If you want to make an image that depends on a photographic, or at least photo derived picture, start w. Photo. It has many tools for making adjustments to all aspects of color. If the image needs some shape manipulations, such as blurs, or shape corrections or distortions, Photo is made for that. One can then add text, or shape design elements like logos.
Designer is better suited to making vector shapes, and laying them out within various spaces, such as business cards, or mobile device screens. Or (something of which I do very little) isometric mechanical/architectural renderings. It does do some image processing, but nothing as extensive as Photo does.

Don't feel alone. So many of these terms have so many different meanings, some much broader than others, that it can be really hard to know which are the most appropriate one(s) to use.
For example, in the most general sense, a "photo" is that which a camera creates or anything created from it. In the analog realm it could be a print, a negative, a slide, or the like, & usually consists of a single image. In the digital realm, a photo document could consist of many different images combined in different ways. The file output by a DSLR could have only one image, the preview or thumbnail, with the 'real' image stored as raw data that has to be "developed" into a usable image.
"Document" is the most general, all inclusive term, because it could refer to any of the above, & in the digital realm it could include non-photo objects like text, vectors, many kinds of metadata, various kinds of 'synthetic' raster images, & even refer to things that are not files like unsaved documents.

Thanks for the replies. I just now applied the "Document > Flip Horizontal" suggestion. It did what I wanted. I have had some difficulty with terminology transposing in Affinity. It has to do with many years of CAD work. To me things like - Mirror means Flip, and, Document doesn't mean Photo but rather something in WORD or Excel.  But that is just my personal space I have to deal with and transform. It certainly has nothing to do with the fantastic Photo and Designer applications. They are unreal. Just a little overwhelming at this point for me but I will conquer them for my purposes. Thanks for your time and input.
In reply to John Rostron - I understand your question and reason for directing it to me. Here's my reply. As I jump into Affinity with both feet I merely have to get a new train of thought in order. I don't really see a difference, in answer to your question. It's just that as I have been learning from different tutorials and getting started I have worked with "pulling/extracting an 'image'" from a "photo" etc. Hence - my twisting of terminology and how it carries on inclusive with "Document" vs "photo". Simply a small learning curve in a new (to me) application. Thanks for yours, reminous', and firstdefense's input though. I never approached looking under the "Document" menu for Flip solutions. I was instead watching tons of tutorials on "Mirror" and "Transform". My fault.

You will not get the Trail image to be of any use against the tree image, the trail image is too small but more importantly its not freely downloadable.
Please respect the photographers copyrights, the trail image is for sale: https://www.stocksy.com/1950461/3-dogs-walking-on-forest-trail there are plenty of websites that allow you to download images with little or no restrictions on use such as Pixabay and unsplash
The Tree image is ok to use: https://pxhere.com/en/photo/66465
You can give a shout back to the photographers if you want but on Pixabay but it's not required. These people give images free of charge which is a nice thing to do.
