  1.

The game is Stellaris, a space empire builder, by Paradox studios.

I have uploaded  stock standard in game image.  I wanted to get away from the olive green and use a neutral transparent menus, the art work is an in game story pack that I have put together for this mod, just a simple idea that I wanted to explore.  Wanted to see how AP handled photo translation to computer games.

I find the olive green so depressing after long exposure when playing this game so I was inspired to change the look of it.  Colour is so impactful upon the psych.  Anyway glad for any feedback.

  2. In game Image

Thought I might share something different this week.

Have been working on a mod for a well known pc game, I re did the interface and added concept screen art.  This image was taken in game, all manipulation done using AP.  I am quite pleased with the results, translating photo to tiff and dds files for pc games.

I tend to get a picture in my mind’s eye as to the overall feel and concept and then begin the work.

12 hour concept art is my term for a rough time frame that it took me to construct this.  For this I downloaded the three pictures from the net, the model, the chalkboard and finally the spider photo.  The rest is drawn by hand and the photos treated to get the effect that I feel I wanted.  The red shoe was a clip art copy that I redrew from scratch a few months ago.  In this instance the story is the last part of this process.  I take a good look at the finished picture and write the story.  This particular story is a continuation of the Mr Morose photo art concept that I posted earlier this week.  The story is in my mind’s eye but getting it developed is an ongoing process.  The idea is essentially to kick start that left brain thinking whilst preserving the technical process of photography.  This is what I call Photo-Art, the merging together of reality and imagination.  Synaptic pathways linking positive thought.

I really like the graphic novel concept, however, as I am new to this and still developing ideas and format this is a work in progress.   We have all seen how photo manipulation can have quite negative effects; my wish is to convey writing and illustration in simple form that is accessible to as many folk as possible.  Simple stories and photo-art that do not take forever to produce, I can go on and on about this but I hope that I have conveyed a rough draft of my thinking.

Thanks for your reply and I will take a look at your novel.

As for not being very good at art, I failed my art exam at school and my only friend told me my teachers where laughing at my work, so first off bury the expectations and draw what you like.  There is no judgment upon how art ought to be perceived, let the imagination of the viewer decide that.  Just start and go from there.  Encourage your inner creative self and you will be surprised what it will tell you.

  4. My definition and style is to convey an idea to enhance the imagination of the viewer.  It also gives me the idea for creative writing as this is something I enjoy doing.

I would like to encourage you to use your creative imagination and just let it flow.

    Kind regards,

    Colin.

  5. Thanks for the interest.

    Biome Initiative

Maintaining awareness and support for preservation of the world’s last ancient biomes.

This Photo-Art was developed to encourage imaginative thinking whilst raising awareness upon the growing issues relating to climate encroachment through mass consumption.

The forest background represents the last eco systems that will need to be protected, encroachment beacons have been activated but the old guardians are dying off.  The compass represents 360 degrees of awareness, connectivity to like minded groups.  The young woman in the space helmet represents the wish to breathe free clean air.  The purple tears represent sadness as consumption overrides commercial restraint.  The technical aspect represents synergy with technology and nature.

As an Australian living at the door step of one of the last ancient forest biomes I feel a certain amount of shame.  We are ranked as one of the world’s richest countries yet our environmental record is atrocious, we want to change that.

  6. Thanks for info,

I did eventually find the text hyperlink and tested it out on a pdf and yep works ok.

I really hope Affinity expands upon this interactive feature as my vision is that we could have something like a fully interactive pdf file that the reader could listen to added music sound files, view external content and in document additions.

Features that I would like to see:

Some transition effects like slow fade when a button is clicked to go to another page, like ms powerpoint.

Play a sound file when button is clicked

Play a video when button is clicked

I am going down the road of virtual pdf publications, illustrated story driven content with some interactivity.

Thanks Dominik for getting back to me.

  7. Thought I might share one of my paintings drawn using Affinity Photo, the red radio is a photo and the rest is drawn to create an image for a possible concept story that I have been working upon.

The eyes are drawn using one of the Affinity tutorials.   I am very impressed with this software package and the company’s commitment to making the software approachable to all creators.

I am self taught and really wish to encourage new talent and provide a perspective from someone who is not a professional designer but wanted to give it a go.   I would like Affinity to do a series of spotlight on new amateur talent.  I think that it might encourage more budding media artists and kick start new possibilities.

    Thanks Affinity.

  8. Affinity Publisher

Just found the add hyperlink in text - interactive.  Tested it out and does all the things I listed and wanted,  Thank you Affinity.  Your products are great.

Hyperlink and link buttons on PDF

    Hello Affinity

Love your product have Affinity Photo.

I have been using the beta publisher and have hit a brick wall with a much needed feature that I feel would be a must have if I am to purchase.

I want to be able to place vector drawn buttons that do the following:

Go to another page in PDF document.

    Open hyperlinks.

    Open videos utube content.

The reasons for this are that I create story driven PDF files that are user interactive.  PDF is great for this as it is small in size, can be opened by any Microsoft windows app and will easily allow rapid text and drawings to be published.  PDF interactive is the way of the future for delivering user driven content and conceptual design for consideration.  Computer game interface design with buttons where the user can click on a button and go to any page in the document and back again.  Adobe does this in their design creation driven subscription based products and are very expensive.  I have been unable to find any other PDF editor that will allow this function, so this would be a big plus for launch.

    Thankyou for consideration,

    Colin.
