  1. Go to the channels panel (by default in the bottom right) (or View > Studio > Channels) Right klick of one of the channels, right klick on one > load to pixel selection - then you can either click on an adjustment layer which will use the selection as a mask (which can be edited using brushes for example) - or you can klick on the mask icon which gives you a mask based on the selection which can then be applied to anything (IMO more flexible) EDIT: works also with live filter layers Sidenote 1: I guess to to this in the LAB space you´d have to set your document color format to Lab and then you also have LAB channels. In the next update (or the current beta) you can also use a Levels adjustment for example in a LAB mode and target one of these parts although the document is set to RGB. So the adjustment layers can be applied in a different color space then the document. sidenote 2: With the upper channel a right klick allows to load to pixel selection The lower channels right klick allows to create a greyscale layer from them which can be useful for further editing, you can then go to layer > rasterize to mask to use it as a mask.
  2. I was just wondering because when I open an AP photo file with the beta and change to the layer panel, save the document and then reopen it, the Adjustment panel shows up again.....
  3. A great update overall! One thing I absolutely don´t get is why AP always shows the "Adjustment" panel by default when opening it. I always want to see the layers panel and this was remembered previously (by the MAS version). Is there a special intention behind this or could this be changed? Or is it my fault somehow? Thanks in advance!
  4. In the beta (in the next MAS version release) there will be an customizable keyboard shortcut option to set foreground and background color to B/W and also an option for 50% grey and there is also a keyboard shortcut for filling a layer/ selection with the foreground or background color, it´s something with f5 but I forgot it, it´s definitely there and will be customizable. At least this is the case for Affinity Photo
  5. Pixelmator is not even close to AP - I've got it but I always want to quit it after a few seconds!
  6. Well... There was a statement from an official Withoutthishttps://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15108-the-future/?p=67840
  7. Apple does allow educational discounts and the upgrade discounts are also possible as I mentioned earlier. And they gain so much more attraction that the 30% off might be worth it...Anyway TonyB seems to be really qualified in every way and has shares himself so he does think an awful lot about such decisions.
  8. disaster is not quite precise?! They have the code an could distribute it on whatever platform, make DVDs with it :D haha if the MAS would go down totally which does not seem to happen likely anyway ;)
  9. Well through the betas you can also get the newest features directly .... And when they´re stable it´s a matter of a few days until they appear in the MAS.... Maybe apple can take such a good product as an incitement to improve their MAS...
  10. Exactly as LoBu sassy Advertising And they don't have the capacity to administrate a sales system. And also the people who want their money back. MAS is probably the very best choice (for the beginning). And the certificates issued don't apply for AP/ AD, right? Major Updates are also not good through the App Store because they have to release a new app and long time users might miss a discount but they'll offer a discount in the first days anyway so that's fine too.
  11. If you reveal some transparent areas here's what I do: Create a new layer on top Choose the inspiring tool On the top bar change from "current layer" to "current layer and below" And inpainting over the transparent areas. This is non destructive as the inpainting is on a deeper are layer. If it's a more complex missing area you can also combine other clonestamping methods - they can also be done non destructively on a separate layer.
  12. Maybe you can post your image? AP is absolutely the same on any Mac as long as the Mac is not broken and then it's still not AP that is different. So chances are that we can solve your problem! :)
  13. And let's don't forget about the one two or even three iOS apps that are still in development. And OS X metal support (whereas Andy or Matt said it would be easy ;) ) Seneca, please don't get me wrong, your point is valid to a certain degree but we should try to stay realistic (and optimistic :) )
  14. Can't you also copy the layer and then go to "document - new from clipboard" or something like that?
  15. Well that's a bit overexaggerated. For example the pro printing options are now here after Christmas so these don't need to be reinvented for publisher.
  16. It's in the current beta and will be in the next Mac App Store version update which is free update and will be available around late 2015/ early 2016.
  17. Haha of course they've go the Adobe line up! As well as some Adobe guys will have affinity on their Mac. That's for shure. (OT the Adobe cloud runs on Linux) It's just kinda hard to do serious fotography without a DAM and Lighrioom with AP sucks. It has to be like PS and LR where you can really store your edited PSDs and view them. I' think APub is the same for some designers. What is a designer app good for if there's no page layout program for a brochure etc. - of course there are exceptions and it's already possible to create great images with AP and do amazing artworks with AD But APub and DAM are really missing pieces ... Well... I'm not arguing with anybody about this anyway right now so please forgive me this statement ;))
