You can make a screenshot and measure in AP actually the colors seem to match in this case so apple color picker indeed seems to go through different layers of color management for the document and the UI, interesting

RAM Usage Limit should be set to your RAM, the operating system will handle this anyway, if you want to play safe, leave about 2GB free for other programs but it has never been an issue for me Disk usage - I would not care, has this warning ever happened to you? It would actually be better to nest the rectangle below the cog and thus the cog acts as a mask for the rectangle you can nest further elements into the cog and thus get very flexible set of "fills" thus you only have one cog shape and this makes modifications much easier cheers

well if you don´t see the effect of the adjustment layer anyway, you can just use quick mask mode and make your selection (aka mask) when you exit quick mask mode you press the mask button at the bottom of the layers panel and drag that mask onto your adjustment if you alt-click on the adjustment layer you get a view of the mask only, I find that useful
