  1. Thanks, MBd.  Have you done one like this for Designer as well?  That's the one that I'm a beginner in.

well I'm honestly not that much of a Designer.....

SoftProof, ColorProfiles, Performance, ColorSpaces, Export....well...most of the things are actually the same in AD.

The tools in Designer are generally a bit easier I'd say, (crop and clip is not easy but is the same in AD and AP)

there are certain design workflows like nesting and using shapes that I may know to some extend but there are for sure much better tutorials about them out there form guys like frankentoon or Paolo. sorry

anyway I think I'll put [AP + AD] in the title because I realize that most things mentioned in here are shared among both

    cheers  :)

  2.

\When I import pics from affinity into Gimp I get this message:

    meassage.jpg

Thanks so much for your help.

Looking forward to receive you next message.

    best

    Thomas

this indicates that the exported file is in the wrong color space, Apple RGB instead of sRGB

however, looking at the files, all files are actually sRGB, checked with Affinity and exiftool so I'm a bit puzzled.

hope we can get this resolved somehow though

  3. realistically speaking for photo manipulation this will be nightmare whilst for graphic/ web design it might be acceptable

    https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/32907-affinity-photo-performance-comparison-data-sheet/?p=159980

in this performance comparison are no pentium processors yet but I would expect it perform worse than an i3 processor

for photo manipulation you definitely want something like an i5 quad core or better. GPU does not really matter.

    cheers

  4. but c4d would not be able to import the afdesign file anyway so this would not help with your workflow I guess, TIFF is even pure pixel so would definitely not help.

maybe try PDF SVG or EPS, I guess any of them will be compatible and will preserve most of your vector stuff, PDF being the best and EPS the worst

    cheers

  5. Right, and I assume that the native Affinity-format file is loss-less, so it can be manipulated, opened and closed, etc. as much as needed without degrading, right? I can see in this thread that I'm not the only one who isn't clear on these underlying basics. I still don't see the what/why of editing the undeveloped RAW ...

there are two reasons, now really one is left

    whitebalance

in the RAW file, the R,G,B "pixels" are separated so you can control the dominance between those, this is not possible afterwards because these pixels are merged during demosaicing (the white balance in the photo persona is not the same, it just tries to trick the effect but is not accurate, therefore it only has a % and not an K measurement)

before we had 32bit in the photo persona, there was a second reason.

RAW is up to 16bit linear data and does not fit even into 16bit developed data in the photo persona. Therefore shadows that were lost in the RAW persona could not be recovered afterwards. see here https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15873-coming-2016-32bit-hdr-editing-sneak-preview/?p=72119

If you develop into 16bit this is still the case.

  6. Hi Murphy,

The only way to reverse the Erase Brush Tool is to go to Edit > Undo whenever you make a mistake you can also use CMD + Z for this or CTRL + Z on Windows :)

well actually no, if you use the eraser on a mask or on an embedded mask of a filter like the blur filter it behaves just like black paint

so to paint the effect back, just paint white

the correct approach is to not use the erase brush

just use black an white brushes on masks and you can also do greyscale for shadings

of course you can use the same mask for a blur and for an exposure adjustment

let me know if you have further questions or if you need more detailed explanations

    cheers
