  1. yeah know that, honestly I was just too lazy to try and was not aware that this happens with every such image (thought it required some special image) anyway, good to know it is sorted now
  2. @owenr if you have such an image without color profile which yields in an unnoticed assignment I can (try to) reproduce sounds like legit issue, not knowing if a profile got assigned despite a lack of profile information is definitely a concern I'll only set ""Warn when assigning profile to unprofiled files"" and see if Affinity warns me or if it just assigns something wild btw I assume that by "working space" they mean the default values for RGB/ CMYK etc. that one sets above in the window // e.g. a CMYK doc without profile could be automatically converted to the chosen CMYK profile which is the "working space", if the checkbox is ticked cheers
  3. http://www.zstd.net/ you surely considered different approaches just wanting to add this one stood somewhat out to me as already being used be many larger projects and with less dramatic falloff in compression gain vs processing time chinging something like this is probably a bit .... non trivial decision though so this is more of a long short
  4. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/24414-keep-mac-awake-and-more/ here is some more cheers
  5. yes, as always... intakt there are better names available than "yes" and "no" which do not require the reader to read through a whole text dialog box cheers
  6. glad it helped don't go crazy about sharpening...there are lots of crazy ideas out there that are very technical but in practice you may not need that much "technology" just go with something that seems reasonable to you and gets the job done I liked these two approaches in affinity among others: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WbAMWYw1aw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ5x2glq_fI there is one major pain in AP for which there is no excuse and that is the missing unsharp mask threshold preview, PS people will know what I mean requested two years ago https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/14283-unsharp-mask-threshold-preview/
  7. "Third, when you Cancel a RAW conversion (which is what you have to do if you get into the situation above) the dialog box offers “Yes” and “No” options instead of useful verbs, such as “Abandon” and “Continue”" can't argue with that one though
  8. alright so the technique where he uses the curves adjustment on the highness layer: - you "cmd J" to duplicate the layer - set the blend mode of the layer to linear light - go to filter > highpass, then apply (- or set the blend mode of the layer to linear light now) - add a curves adjustment and nest it into the highpass layer - modify the curves adjustment in AP you could make a variant of this technique more flexible by using a live highpass filter set to linear light and then use blend if to exclude its effect, similar how he uses curves to adjust the highpass filter itself, blend if adjusts the effect of the highpass based on its own lightness and/ or the underlying lightness of the image which can as well be used to mitigate halos (I wonder why he did not use a smart object in PS but anyway....) if you do not feel comfortable using live filter/ destructive filter/ adjustment layers I recommend first checking out some basic tutorials which will then make it much easier to follow along https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vH5wdY2-0Fo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Cb5Ohb9yUo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUlqoOEkP_o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-Oe2cyXudQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5b-Daeu2AU some very basic things about image editing which might help to clear up some issues that may arise here is another recent thread about some sharpening things and here is some more composite of useful techniques in AP which might then in turn take you some further hope that helps just ask if there remains any specific issue/ question cheers
  9. dropbox does now support sketch files preview on desktop and mobile, might be worth taking into consideration while working on your mobile prototyping/ viewing stuff
  10. actually a lot similar discussions compared to affinity pricing/ new design/ speed/ capability/ David vs Goliath company/ roadmap insecurities (although twisted in some aspects) yeah seems like a legit environment especially for js other than that sublime/ jetbrains/ vim does not leave much to be desired but personal preference but I did not want to brake the same discussion as the ones in the reddit thread just happened that I like both affinity and sublime and the release was a coincidence btw I had somehow hoped to see AD iPad revealed yesterday but I guess there was not much of an opportunity without new iPads (which was not to be expected but anyway) (iPad pricing increased in some countries btw) @Nana looking forward to seeing your js affinity plugins hopefully someday https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/27043-what-programming-language-is-affinity-designer-written-in/?p=131150
  11. good timing https://twitter.com/sublimehq/status/907956818994851840
  12. It can actually be nice to use HDR to bring out detail instead of traditional sharpening or use it for smoothing https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/37833-hdr-skin-smoothing/
  13. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/37125-ap-ad-beginner-amateur-pro/ here is a summary of things I would have liked to know in the beginning (and further down the road) PDF Summary: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=28948 cheers PS: sure it is "excellent"? .... good for sure
  14. The shadow slider in the shadow highlight dialog is useless but development is aware of that also mentioned: some workarounds cheers
  15. you can try the latest beta version which is supposed to improve performance a bit cpu seems to be fine maybe try another screen recorder if the redraw issues only occur during recording cheera
  16. If the lights are blown out/ too bright then there is no way of recovering them other than taking the photo again with lowered exposure. the file has lost/ clipped the information of pixels that are very bright and thus there is no way of lowering them other than just fading them into grey which looks awful. Maybe read up on this on some website keyword "raw/ clipping/ overexposed" cheers
  17. I'd strongly recommend working this guide about curves https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/18992-understanding-curves/?p=88071 it will be one of the things that really help understanding photo manipulation regarding your questions: 1. what box do you mean? 2. to delete a point, click and press backspace/ delete cheers //for more free tips, KLICK <<
