None of the Affinity apps recognizes it as an Affinity file using open or even Place  (insert) in Publisher. Maybe the files are corrupted - perhaps something else is the matter. I hope the support staff can take a look at the files.

I looked at the binary content - I see similarities to regular affinity files - but also discrepancies.

    Sorry 😞

I hope you have a backup/version somewhere. If you do not have versioning of your files (fx via Dropbox cloud backup) I strongly recommend saving backup versions manually with unique names. The hard way. Every time you make a major or semi major change. But a blessing when problems arise.

    Stay safe.

    Thanks for trying!

    Hi steverdezines,
I believe i know what's going on. I'm passing the files to the dev team for inspection. Thanks for reporting it. I will get back to you as soon as i have some news (note most staff doesn't work today so it may take a little).

Hi MEB...thanks for trying. Have you had any luck opening those files?

    Hi tomrock,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
    1. Do you still have the original file you created in Affinity 1.8 (or 1.8.1) that fails to open in 1.8.3 for us to check please? Can you attach it here (i can provide an upload link if you wish to keep the file private)? Thanks.

    2. Features (LUT adjustment) not supported by the PSD format (Photoshop) are rasterised on export. That's expected.

    3. What's the format of the image you have opened? If it's a JPG or PNG and you use File > Save after editing them and select Save Flattened in the dialog that will appear, then the JPG/PNG will be rewritten as a flattened image (these formats don't support layers among other things depending the format). If you select Save As instead the document will be saved in Affinity Photo native format (afphoto file) and you edits will be kept intact/editable. That's expected as well.

    Hi musictobemade

Assets are like a clipboard that can contain many items.  Assets are normally something that you will use frequently in many publications, for example a company's name, address, telephone  number and contact details  or a logo, etc
Unlike a clipboard,  Assets are retained  i) even when you place a copy in your publication.  ii) when you close Publisher and they become available again when you re-open Publisher.

Once an Asset has been stored, you can put a copy/copies anywhere in your publication by simply dragging it from your Assets panel into your publication/s.
This means that you can store commonly used  objects such as company logo, explanatory text, etc and if you want others to be able to access them, you can embed them in your current publication.  If you pass that publication to someone else, then when they open they will be asked if they want to to import the Assets into their Asset panel.

You can create Assets using the 'bun'  top right of Assets Panel (fig one)  and Create New Category from the menu (fig2) and then add your own sub-categories as I have (fig 3)

    Fig 1                                                                                               Fig 2                                                                                           Fig 3

To make your own assets, simply select an object (text frame, or image or table, whatever) and then open the menu on a category/sub category (click on it's 'bun' and choose  Add from Selection.

An Asset remains available both in your current publication and any future publication until you Right click on it and Delete it.  Deleting an Asset does not delete any copy of it that you may have used in your document.

Hope that this has helped introduce them for you. More info in the Help document

    Thanks, Pman. Great help!!!

  5. I created a screen video. Hope that helps

In additions, the exported psd file is 11mb, the ap file is 8. I created a new file and made visible all layers. A few of the layers have masks. I opened the file in PSE, and see that the images are visible, but the layers with masks do not export. A side note, I made the visible all layers in the file I uploaded yesterday, with the same results as the files I'm showing in this post.

  6. I love the new version. Only one disappointment thus far. Nik no longer works. I contacted DxO support and they suggested a work around, which I implemented. It worked, but when loaded, my canvas comes up inverted (see attached screenshot). The left and right sidebar menus are right side up...but the canvas is not. See their response below.

    "Hello,

Thank you in your interest in Nik Collection 2018!

While the combination of Nik Collection 2018 and Affinity Photo is not officially supported, please go to the following link for instructions on a workaround:

    https://www.dam-photo.com/install-nik-collection-plugins-affinity-photo/

While we cannot offer technical support for this combination, we have had customers that have had great success with this workaround.

    Kind regards,

    Riley
    DxO Customer Support"

Anyone know how this comes about?

  7. There are many things I love about this new version. What one gets for $49, plus free upgrades is simply beyond imagination. I cannot even wrap my mind about the tremendous value one gets. Thanks!

There are also, one or two things I'm not please about, at no fault to Affinity. It's 3rd party plugins I'm referring to. It seems as though, Nik Collection no longer works. I love Nik Collection, and I imagine someone will come through with a work around in the near future. In the meantime, I'd like to either roll back, or download the previous version. Is either of those alternatives possible? If so, how?

Keep up the good work! To say I'm a fan is an understatement!

    Thanks!

  8.  I began using the plugin after installation and when I start an action...any action, a "updating fonts" box appears with a spinning wheel. I have an over abundance of fonts, so I let it run thinking it would take longer than normal. That was 10 hours ago. Can anyone advise? See attached screenshot.

    Thanks
