SisMoon reacted to Mark Oehlschlager in Unable to Drag Guides Off Artboard (1.8.3)
I'm currently running Designer 1.8.3 on Mac OS High Sierra.
Discovered that I cannot delete guides using the drag method (i.e., dragging the guide off the artboard to the rulers).
Moreover, in resorting to the Guides Manager, I find it difficult to identify which guide, in the long list of guides, is the guide I wish to delete.
    Two requests:
Please fix the bug that prevents one from deleting a guide by dragging it to the artboard rulers. Please add a feature wherein one can select a guide directly, have it highlighted by color, and delete it by striking the Delete key on the keyboard, or right-clicking on the guide and selecting Delete Guide.

It would be nice if I could copy guides to use in another spread.  It would be nice if I could keep the Guides Manager open when switching to another master page or spread.

That helps Walt, a lot!   But it would be even better to have copy abilities for guides.

SisMoon reacted to JET_Affinity in Hairline Stroke Width
Regardless, the request for a hairline stroke weight setting is valid. (It's been brought up before in other threads.)
For those not familiar, a hairline stroke weight always renders at the smallest width possible on the output device, be it your monitor or an imagesetter. This is advantageous when drawing paths in detailed illustrations, during which we are constantly zooming in and out. Having stroke weight set to hairline feels more precise and is less distracting because the stroke weight is always drawn the same, regardless of zoom. The extreme zooming capabilities of Affinity as compared to other programs buttresses the point.
It's a great feature, a standard setting in PostScript, and it should be provided in every vector drawing software.

Fine composition and items @Mft but why so dark?

This is what appears when I use auto tone in Photoshop. Perhaps not the artistic impression you were looking for, perhaps something in between, but...

    Hi all
This image (made for fun as a learning exercise) was inspired by a drawing by the scientific illustrator, Des Helmore.
I must confess my version is not a completely accurate representation of the original weevil beetle, and is also a work in progress, as it needs more detail (hairs) and better shadow and highlights etc. It was originally drawn in colour, but looks more interesting in black and white.
It was made using Affinity Designer and mainly uses these resources.
Dots on legs and body: Fineliner brushes and vector texture from Artifex Forge (makes loads of excellent brushes)
Organic texture: DAUB paper 15 from Paolo Limoncelli, who did an excellent 2020 creative lock-down session
Background texture: a texture file from Trevor Young's (Tapocketa) lock-down session (also very excellent!).

And that, surely, is the point
If you are going to build a better mousetrap, then be sure what a mouse looks like, how big it is, and how it behaves. Having a series of programs that inter-mesh is all well and good, but if they individually fail to provide significant basics they are neither one thing nor the other.
My overwhelming sense is one of considerable disappointment that a company in which I have had a lot of confidence for probably decades can so completely miss the point.
There probably is little point in continuing to discuss this at present. Either the Powers that be are aware of the (urgent) need for some of their user base and are addressing the problem or they are not. If the former we can hope they act with expediency. If the latter, well, what?
And for the record, I have now returned to attempting to create this book using PagePlus. In a couple of hours last night on my laptop I moved on as far as it took me several days with AP, although to be fair I am less confident on AP, which has huge potential, but will fall by the wayside unless it is careful.

But I don't WANT really clever functions: as a "hobbyist" I want the basics without which I can't produce a book. I appreciate Patrick Connor saying that they are working on it. But I am left with the lingering concern that the scarce resources are being  diverted to create more, very clever, features. Features which are nice, but which aren't crucial to the creation of a publication.
How long have Serif been working on Publisher? - well, I'm going to assume it includes the entire time they have been developing PagePlus. So quite a long time.  Development staff? - the functions that are being requested are basic and may well have been covered in degree syllabuses (or is it 'syllabii'?).
Finally, it's difficult being so critical - their business model (as seen by a user) is laudable, their admin excellent and their determination to listen to feedback almost unique.

@garrettm30 is correct. This is pinned to make it easier to find as we know it is important and really do not want 100 independent threads all asking for the same feature.
Serif are currently in the process of implementing this. It needs to be done carefully, not just thrown in, and we do always have the issue of programming resources. Thank you all for your patience, it will be rewarded.

I came here because I am laying out a book and needed the feature but couldn't find it. Couldn't read all 19 pages of comments but now I know what I have to do for now.
I was an early adopter of InDesign and from memory it didn't have footnotes when it came out. So I'm not too worried to be honest. Serif have been smashing it with their development speed, really. Meanwhile I'm really happy I'm not paying Adobe club fees so all good. 🙂 🙂

It was a simple misunderstanding, so it is probably best that we drop it. But I’m not dropping it (haha!).
Rory did not say "into" but "in." English has the annoying habit of dropping the relative pronoun, and sometimes it can obscure the meaning, but as I native speaker, I did understand it. To turn the sentence around, what Rory wants to import is "footnotes and endnotes [that are] in Microsoft Word." If Rory had said "footnotes and endnotes into Microsoft Word," as you suggested, then it would have had the opposite meaning.
So now we know what Rory meant, and that it could be correctly understood as written to native English speakers. Now we can move on.

    Hello Affinity Team,
would it be possible to integrate the following functions?
These are very helpful for me and important in the design.
    1. footnotes and endnotes
    2. Seperation preview (to control the colourfulness)
    3. Generator for QR (in PagePlus possible) and bar codes
    4. Convert selected texts to table and back
    5. Open and export Indesign files
    6. Placing graphics and images with special colors (also called true colors) These are currently being converted easily, which does not happen. Have a lot of images and graphics from other programs, which I want to use, but that does not work yet, especially companies logos)
    7. Opening PDF files with spot colors is also important. That does not work either. The colors are also changed, which must happen under no circumstances)
    8. Gathering data for sharing would also be very helpful, as I would like to share more of the original data, at the request of the clients I recommended your software to. This was possible in PagePlus and also possible in other laypout programs.
    9. A tool for creating charts would not be bad. That was available in PagePlus.
    10. Placing Excel files would also be helpful as it often gets files from customers and needs to get them into the products.
    11. The personalization feature as described in PagePlus (Mail Merge and Photo Assembly)
    12. The creation of workspaces (in PagePlus and programs of competitors possible)
    13. The function Replace color would be good. If you have to replace the color in the whole product, because the customer has a different color concept.
    14. When deleting used colors, a warning should come and the choices will be "do not delete" or "replace with".
    15. Convert existing colors to spot color and convert spot colors into working space would be fine without having to create a new color.
    16. When exporting, there is the problem that contours and lines that have a gradient as a fill are converted into graphic objects. This must be fixed, they should remain contour or line. In the programs of the competition it works.
    17. Possibility to put objects on "Overprint", "Aussparen" or "nicht print" would be very helpful. This is important because there are situations where certain objects must necessarily be printed on each other by overlays. Do not print the command is important when using objects as positioning aids, but not outputting them. In other layout programs there is this possibility.
    18. Opening and exporting Indesign and Quark files

Hello Moon! You must return to Earth!
Footnotes are not important only for short graphical documents, such as a cover, or flyer (a very small part of the job in desktop publishing). I do not know a book, a magazine, a student report, a company presentation, or a university thesis that does not require footnotes. It is even the essence of the service.
I did a test with a novel of 50 pages. This contains 20 footnotes. The text is just sticking in the right place. QuarkXpress 37 min. Affinity Publisher 5 hrs 12 min. What can I say about a famous actor’s bio whose author was on TV? It contained 480 footnotes…
This is a serious failure to correct as soon as possible, not a favour to please some eccentrics.

Yes, I agree with all those who are requesting implementation of footnotes/endnotes. I'm sure it will require some programming effort to do it right, but it is an absolutely essential feature for serious desktop publishing, which includes books, magazine articles, and academic publications.
