Footnotes and endnotes are a must for a DTP program. As I see, users ask for that feature for two years now. It's about time! I bought PUBLISHER to find out, I cannot use it, due to this basic feature missing. What a pity!

I think the key point is a definition of the basis on which functions were selected for early implementation - or delay. As many contributors have said (most recently Pyanepsion), footnotes (et al) have been around for decades. It is this fact that makes it so surprising that they were not in the first round of functionality of APub (thank you Albert!). Selecting functions by personal choice is guaranteed to cause conflict, confusion and delay. But, in the beginning, there must have been a comprehensive & rational structure to the logical design of APub..
In the event, there are some functions that are not implemented which I would LOVE to have. I accept I might be a minority audience - I'll wait. There are others that represent actions I cannot imagine in my dreams - I forget they exist and marvel at the skills of forum responders.
Then there are the basics, in use (once devised) in every newsheet, magazine, booklet, book, text book, training manual ....   I have ever written (since the 1970's). Footnotes fall into this group. The absence of any of the components of this group of functions is really irritating. Platitudes excusing their absence don't help. I haven't seen a single one in the forum which I haven't used myself at some time or other. 🙂
Bottom line (as I said the last time I made my last comment) is that I guess it is too late to influence action. Just regret opportunities lost.

    Hi Guys, I'm back,
Just decided to upgrade from Page Plus (Full Range) Yesterday, as found the 50% offer too good to miss. It's been a long time coming, but it's nice to be part of the Serif family again.

I was trying to think of a scenario I would open a publisher file in AD or AP, but I couldn't think of one.
Evidently APub should be able to open/place AD an AP files. And it's great that the Designer and Photo personas are available in Publisher.

I hope it doesn't get lost in the discussion that for some users like me (I publish books), having footnotes and endnotes is a CRITICAL feature.  Without it, there is ZERO need for the program at all.  Being able to open the other programs in the suite is a very nice feature, but it's all completely useless to me without footnotes and endnotes in Publisher.  If I can't use Publisher, I won't waste my time learning to use any of the other programs.

i rather have a drag and drop feature from APhoto to Apublisher rather than the work appearing simultaneous in both programs. APublisher needs footnotes, end notes, etc. but doin't think the other two need that feature. But, to drag from APhoto an image I was working on and place it into APub  where I want it would be great. I'm new to these three programs and how they work together so will take time.

in help 'scanning images' has no results and I need to scan as much as I need footnotes in APub.

Hi, I'm a long time Serif user and now Affinity. My question ? Does any of the Affinity programs have the ability to scan an image. PP9 has this ability, but APublisher and APhoto doesn't seem to have this function. I'm about to purchase ADesigner in addition to the other two and really need scanning capability in all three.

Patrick, thank you for a response.

Dare I ask though: what is a ’long’ extension? Is there any sort of rough guestimate as to how long it will take? Years?

Yes please to foot notes, end notes.  Any even slightly academic work will use these.  Publisher without these will lock out and academic use.  Keep up the good work development team.  I really like Publisher.

Yet, the fact remains that I can not use Affinity Publisher, (purchased for this project) to finish and publish my project and will continue to use the software I started with. I am a big supporter of Serif and have all their software before Affinity and will continue to wait, hope and monitor this discussion.

    Hi, Petar Petrenko.
If you ask in English to speak English, you are not sure of being understood. Not everyone really understands all languages. For my part, I master especially the most popular of them: the Google translate.
24th says: "Urgently please, add the possibility to add notes at the bottom of the page!".

Not only books, also a lot of magazines are made with DTP programs. And they don't need that feature.

A DTP without referencing is incomplete. I own Affinity Design and like the company, but I have a 200 page book full of references. There is no way I'm going to enter these manually. I too want to ditch the Adobe chains completely and give you my money, but at present this is a lame product. If people are only using it for small projects like flyers, just stick with Designer.  Desktop Publishers need to support real books.

Serif PagePlus allows me to insert a file (a Word document) with text and endnotes that are complete with superscript digits. I thought Affinity Publisher would be a better product, but as I am many hours behind in the midst of manually inserting superscript digits that were omitted when I placed text into Affinity Publisher, I conclude that Affinity Publisher is at present an inferior product.

We love our initial testing of Publisher and want to move our office away from InDesign but can't until Footnotes/End Notes are provided. Any timeline available for implementation?

I agree with Rory Mole, In most of the projects I'm involved with, the authors' MS Word document manuscripts include footnotes. When I import them into my layout/publishing program I need those footnotes (together with their marks in the main body) to be imported, and then to be able to format them appropriately with style, etc. Like Rory, I don't want to have to manually insert footnotes. (Guess I'm just used to being able to do it in PagePlus)

The reason for the importing of footnotes and endnotes from Microsoft word documents is this:

I layout academic books for clients who put their own footnotes into Microsoft word which is their writing software of choice for their manuscript.  When I layout their book in a layout program such as Affinity Publisher, I want to have the ability to "place" or "import" their manuscripts which contain lots of footnotes and/or endnotes.  I do not want to have to manually add 500+ footnotes into their sentences of text on pages in Affinity Publisher.  Adobe InDesign has this ability and I am wanting to completely move away from Adobe. This is not going backwards from a horse to a donkey as you have questioned, it is just how things are in the book publishing industry.

I must have footnotes and endnotes as in PagePlusX9.  Is this going to happen? I have a purchased version 1.71.404 after all the beta versions. I can't proceed w/o this function. -Sandy

Are footnotes and endnotes currently possible (besides manually creating them, of course)? I haven't found them so far.
If not, this is a feature that I think would be widely used. I suspect it may take some time to get right if it is not yet under development, so I would understand if it is not a day-1 feature.
