Meztli got a reaction from AffinityJan in Export Persona Change Existing Slice To Slice ALL Layers
There is still to way of making the export to take all the layers of a slice after it has been created, correct?
I often have the same problem and creating the slices manually is much more time consuming and not as accurate.
Just to elaborate on what I mean, here's an image. I already have 100+ slices that cover the correct area I need, but they were created as an object slice. I need them to become an area slice.
Is my only option to go back and create each slice manually?

Still no invert vector mask in 2021??
Thank you Timo, this saved me today.

Meztli reacted to BertD in AD: grouping objects moves them
Hi,
Just noticed something in Designer 1.5.1 that I haven't come across before.
Just started working on an idea and wanted to group some of the balloons in the screenshots attached. Selecting them and then CMD-G to group them makes them move position.
Is this normal [new] behaviour and have I missed a new setting or a bug?
Regards,
Bert

Meztli reacted to andy-in-mke in "Proportional Scale" Indicator
One of my long-standing pet-peeves with graphics apps on the Mac was Apple's early decision to make it necessary to hold the shift key down to scale an object proportionally. To me, that is default behavior, and should be doable without a modifier key. Thankfully, Apple is moving in that direction (which I particularly notice in apps like Pages), but the picture on the Mac as a whole is very spotty. It's my impression that there are plenty of apps out there that adhere to the old-school way of things.
As things currently stand with Affinity Designer, when I want to resize an object proportionally (which is most, but not all of the time), I don't know when I'll have to hold the Shift key down to do so and when I won't. I think by sheer chance the first few times I scaled objects in AD, I did so without having to press the shift key, and I thought to myself, "Yay, Affinity-Serif, you got it right." But that turned out not to be true, and over time I've come to realize there's a 50% chance each time I want to scale an object that I'll have to hit command-z because the operation won't go as intended.
I suppose there are a couple ways this problem can be solved.
The ideal solution, to my mind, is to make scaling behavior the same across all classes of objects, be they text, curves, simple objects, compound objects, or groups (made up of any combination of the aforementioned object types): proportional scaling should be the default when the object is selected and manipulated, with no modifier key necessary.
If, for some obscure programming reason, it's impossible to implement the above goal, can we have a scaling indicator that reliably tells us whether the selected object we're about to scale will do so proportionately or not, depending on the currently pressed keys?
Thanks very much.

Meztli reacted to albertoMartinsen in Workarounds for Distortion, Warp, or Perspective distort?
I bought Affinity Designer this spring and today I begun using it for the first time on a project and I came here to see how to simply deform a shape, because I couldn't find such an basic feature. My jaw just dropped.

Meztli reacted to TimoCreations in invert mask in Designer?
I'm not sure if this answers the question, but you can use the "Erase" blendmode at the bottom to use any vector shape as cutout to everything beneath it.
If you want to only affect one layer or a group, drag it into a group.

I want a simple switch right next to the mask to switch positive/negative.
This is frustrating.

Greetings, i have to say i am LOVING where your going with this so far...but i do have a small question. Is it possible to "invert" the mask on a layer?
thanks!

Although it is not the same functionality, in Publisher you can find/replace text by format including color, and that might well serve the purpose for the kinds of things that Publisher is needed for. For objects, Designer is the better choice, which of course is available via the persona in Publisher.

Meztli reacted to ETC in Affinity Publisher - Master Updated - Pages not Updating / Lost Master Link
I'm trying to use Affinity Publisher v. 1.8.1.
Does anyone know if this problem in on the radar for fixing? I'm working on a calendar and had a table on the master page (the table is just the dates, which, of course, have to be in different boxes for each month). Text, Text Frame and Baseline grid are all unlinked attributes, so all the tweaking I've been doing to the master page table to get it right has been wasted, since it won't update the regular pages. Ugh!
Is this issue mentioned in the bugs section of the forums? I would hope that never, ever would something become unlinked without the user specifically authorizing it, but that it gets unlinked and then there is no way to re-link it is even harder to accept.

Yes, if items are on a master spread, you can edit them on the master, which would then impact multiple spreads, but if the time was taken to set these items up on a master, then global color swatches should have been used as well, which would eliminate most reasons to use the "select same" features in the first place, as well as impacting objects across spreads whether they were on a master or not.
Most people who have use cases for this functionality seem to be working with imported documents that do not have the benefit of global colors, so I am working under the assumption that the objects @Meztli is concerned about are most likely not on a master spread.

Meztli reacted to fde101 in Affinity Publisher Customer Beta - 1.9.0.874
There is currently no mechanism for maintaining a selection across multiple spreads in Publisher (switching to another spread clears the selection), so I suspect that adding this functionality would be enough of an effort to be a feature request in its own right.
The "Select Same" feature is not available in the Publisher persona, but it is available in the Designer persona when accessed through Publisher in the beta - but it only works at the level of the current spread; it works for both the left and the right pages of the spread (assuming you are in facing pages mode), but it does not work across multiple spreads.

Not to mention, (in more or less most requested order)
Crop page
Image tracing
Path offset
Perspective Moulding
On screen Measurement tool
Set ruler origin
And don't even get me started on Affinity Publisher
Honestly, I don’t know what the dev' team do all day
P.S. Only kidding guys, keep up the good work.

Yeah, I could almost understand that!
I must say that my new Macbook Pro 13” with M1 CPU is one hell of a laptop!
I bought the one with just 8GB RAM (hard to get the 16GB in Sweden just now), but, this 8GB machine is way more better & faster than my iMac 27” late 2017 with i7/32GB RAM/2TB fusiondrive!
It’s magic what Apple has acheived here with the M1 CPU!

Meztli reacted to kimtorch in Scripting
I've given up on Affinity.
I started this thread over two years ago with great hope of replacing CC but there's been zero input from Affinity regarding progress on scripting which gives me little confidence anything will be coming.
It seems the primary market for Publisher, Designer etc is smaller agencies who might not benefit greatly from scripting. I continue to tweak our InDesign scripts and software every few weeks and I just can't see how we could survive doing everything manually. I'm retiring from the trade next year so it's not going to be relevant to me anyway, but it's a shame it doesn't seem to be on the radar of important features.

Any chance someone kind enough to demonstrate this visually with a quick YouTube video? I keep re-reading this, but I'm clearly not doing it right.

Meztli reacted to Stephen_H in AutoTrace (convert raster image to vector)
I think the point is that most of the 334 posts in this discussion, is that we want Affinity Designer to be that option. We don't want to turn to other apps. We should be turning from Inkscape to Aff Designer, not the other way around.
What if all Aff Designer users downloaded the free, opensource Inkscape just to trace their scans, and then discover that Inkscape is a better app? Simple rule of business: Never send your clients to your opposition, because they might not come back...

🤬
Because Designer is easier in many tasks. I have even done jobs where I have drawn objects in Designer and copy-pasted them to Illustrator to use each apps strengths.
Besides, my CS5 will stop working at some time and I hope Designer can replace it at that time.

Meztli reacted to ExFireworksUser in Export Persona Change Existing Slice To Slice ALL Layers
If I create an object in vector persona then add a slice to that object specifically... and then go back and draw some more things, some of which are visible in the previously sliced area... and then export... the export ignores everything but the original object.
(I spent flippin ages exporting animation frames, then tweaking, then exporting... over 50 frames... to then realise that I'd exported multiple copies of the original without realising because the additions on top were very small so not visible in the slices panel thumbnails)
is there a setting to make slices slice everything visible within them as opposed to the object or layer they were originally added to?
TY!
