After studying and testing, I found the solution, and the difference in this version 2. I must select Import Document instead of Open Document. Simple after all.

I solved the problem. Simple and traditional problem after all. I checked the latest actions of my Bitdefender, and there it was the reason. It blocked Affinity Photo from saving anything.

Via place in it's an (image) layer, you have to "rasterize" that layer first (right click on it in the layers panel and select rasterize from the shown menu entries). Rasterizing converts the image layer into a (pixel) layer. Now when it is a pixel layer, select it and access the Tone Mapping Persona!

Both photos are Image layers, I would duplicate them then rasterize the duplicates. You don't have to duplicate first, I just do that out of an abundance of caution.

You probably imported raster brushes and they can be seen when you switch to the Pixel Persona in Designer.

You need to switch to the Pixel Persona to see and use raster brushes in Designer.

Many thanks for the information. I have mainly used earlier different apps and still a rookie with Affinity range. Therefore, it takes couple of moments before getting familiar with all details.
