grargemeister got a reaction from Dan C in Affinity Designer 2.0.4 not loading!!
Hi @Dan C,
Unfortunately, that didn't work but I think it was a much larger issue with Windows updates. A full reinstall of Windows has done the trick and now I'm a happy user of the Affinity Suite of software again.
Thanks for your assistance with this.

grargemeister got a reaction from tbone360 in Optimising Designer for Windows Surface Pro 3
Evening everyone,
I've been using Affinity Designer for about 10 months now and I absolutely love it. It's made me get back into my art and I've been drawing using it every day since purchasing it.
My question I have: is there anyway to optimise it for Windows Surface Pro 3? I understand that it's a pretty dated machine but I find that some of the raster brushes at a large pixel size are very sluggish and I have to paint and then just wait for it to finish and just hope it turns out how I need it to. I get frustrated a little because the iPad has its own version and seems to run problem free but I was wondering if there was a way to make it run faster or at least quicker with the raster brushes. I normally run at a resolution of 3000x3000 with a DPI of 300 so I can appreciate the resolution is high but if any one has any suggestions to make it run faster I would be extremely grateful.

(split from this announcement post)
Thanks for a great update.
As a quick test, I played with the appearance panel. Specifically, I tried drawing a basic street map, as you might see in a leaflet for a local business.
Using the new multiple strokes capability, it’s possible to do to such work quickly Affinity Designer.
First I drew the roads using a heavy dark stroke. Then in the appearance panel, I added a second stroke, in a lighter colour, above the first stroke.
That produced the effect of parallel lines, with a fill in between.
The technique will work only if another new feature in 1.7 is used: when using the pen tool, the "Add new curves to selected object object" button on the context toolbar must be selected. Then the lines blend together.
The second stage in this exercise was to duplicate the artboard containing all the elements. On the second the strokes have brush styles to give a more hand-drawn style.
This is a quick, very rough test, and I’m looking forward to exploring the latest Affinity advances in more depth!

grargemeister got a reaction from toupee in Letter Grids
Hey everyone,
I've been seeing a lot of videos and images on Instagram recently with people using Letter Grids to make fantastic lettering. There's a guy on Instagram called @stefankunz who actually sells them but they work for Procreate, Photoshop and Illustrator. Does anyone know if they're easy to make yourself or if there are any to purchase for the Affinity range of software?

Sorted it. Needed at least 3GB of free storage and it seemed to install fine. Looking forward to having a play around with the update.

Select the line. Go In the menu "Layer" and select "Expand Stroke". After that your line is a filled shape that you can use with compound shapes.
Hope that could help.

Hi everyone,
I'm relatively new to Affinity Designer and Graphic Illustration as a whole. I've been interested in graphic design for some years and have recently decided to give it a go and I have to admit, this software has given me a second wind for harking back to my art days.
This last week I've been toying around with flat vectors and trying to develop a style of my own. I've created this new thing called "Char-EGG-ters" where by I draw famous characters/people in the form of eggs.
I'd really appreciate any feedback about it.
