Kevin B reacted to DHI in Editing Anchor Properties results in duplication of Anchor
BUG - tested on a new document
New Document Create a Text box Double Click on Text to highlight Right click and select Interactive > Add Anchor The selected text is used as the Anchor text Check in Anchor panel that Anchor is created Double Click on Text to highlight Right click and select new option Interactive > Anchor Properties Edit the text Check in Anchor panel - another Anchor is created - so two Anchors even though you intended only one but edited it. See screen shot showing this stage. Double Click on Text again to highlight Right click and select Interactive > Delete Anchor Check in Anchor panel and the first Anchor with original text has been deleted. Each time you edit Anchor Properties a new anchor is created - so you must continually delete the old one.
The correct behaviour should be that when you select Anchor Properties that you are changing the existing anchor - and not just piling a new one on top of the old one.
The correct menu item name to edit an Anchor Property should be Edit Anchor Properties - so that it is clearer that this is where you can change Anchors.
    FEATURE REQUESTS
    1. Alternatively you should be able to edit an Anchor Property in the Anchor Panel.
    2. The Anchor Panel should display the Anchors in the page order on which they appear - not alphabetically. Or alternatively there should be a sort option.
    3. When you select Export Anchors as Bookmarks in the PDF export dialog it would be nice if this was persistent and when you restart Publisher that this option is remembered.

The reason I use Anchors at all is in order to create Bookmarks in PDF exports - this is a requirement for submitting PDFs to governmental bodies in my country. This is the main reason I use Publisher in fact - so I can generate the book marks and manage the pages in my submissions.
It would be even more helpful if there was an option for Anchors act as Page Bookmarks - some PDF readers scroll to the text that the anchor is attached to - so if the anchor is applied to text at the bottom of the page (because that's there the text is in an illustration) the PDF reader scrolls too far.

    Agreed
You can also remove a child anchor from its parent by dragging it to the top of the list or to the left or right edge of the list - a drop zone bar will appear when you're able to remove it.

TIPS: I've set the keyboard shortcut W for Quad warp - its great, using it all the time now.
TIP 2: Been using the Pen Mode set to Smart Anchors - and drawing 2 points close together for a sharpish curve - This mode is perfect for quick flatting.

    Hi @Kevin B,
This issue relates to nesting anchors rather than re-ordering them, we do have an issue logged with the developers regarding the anchor re-ordering not working, so I've bumped this issue against V2 with your report.

Hello! I have a couple of requests that I think would really improve the Anchor window:
I'd really really like to be able to choose to be able to view the top-level anchors in order of page appearance rather than alphabetical. That way I can make sure that everything lines up the way that I would expect it to in a PDF bookmark sidebar before I export. There's currently no way to remove an Anchor from its "parent" other than by dragging it to the free space at the bottom of the panel. As someone who often has dozens of Anchors in a document, this can be really unwieldy. I would really like to be able to do something quick and easy to separate an Anchor from its parent, like right-click > Remove from Parent (while preserving the hierarchy UNDER that Anchor). This last one might be more of a bug fix than a feature request, but - when you add an anchor to another as a child (by dragging the child to the would-be parent), the ENTIRE hierarchy of anchors expand out. It would be great if this did not happen, or if there was an option to not make it happen. I'm not positive what the use-case is for this happening deliberately but I'm open to the idea that someone might want it! Thank you!

I'm so incredibly frustrated with the anchor / pdf bookmark system. The fact that the anchor panel is alphabetical rather than by order of appearance with no option to change it is really problematic. But the worse issue is that when it exports to pdf, the order is unpredictable. It's almost in the order or appearance in the document, but I always have a few bookmarks that are listed in a random place on the list. Anyone know how to reliably set the order the bookmarks will show in the pdf?

There are two text frames on that page - it's better just to use one and adjust the leading for the second heading. This wouldn't have happened with a single frame but if you want to use two frames, you could fix the order by changing the layer stack. Right now Wealth is below Background in the Layers panel. Move Wealth above Background and the PDF bookmarks will be reversed. Publisher always searches layers from the bottom to top of each page so this is expected behaviour.
    Cheers

Kevin B reacted to MikeTO in Anchors / PDF bookmarks order is not helpful
When you do this you're attaching the anchor to the text frame and not to the text in the text frame which is probably not what you want. An anchor attached to the frame will not move with the text as you edit it and it flows from page to page.
You can attach an anchor to any object in Publisher but the anchor symbol is shown only for text anchors. This is a known limitation.
Tip: Right clicking to create an anchor is a bit inefficient - if you're doing this a lot you should assign a keyboard shortcut to the menu command. I use Cmd+K for Hyperlink and Shift+Cmd+K for Anchor.

Well, I'm very happy with the Measure Tool as a new feature, sure it could be improved over time but I believe it's a decent start for a 50€ non-subscription software.
The CAD import is indeed useful to me, but the more CAD tools they add in the closer we come to something like Corel Technical at 499,00 €/year -- ten times the cost of Affinity Designer in just one year.
Oh, and Corel is owned by KKR via a holding company with the funny name of ALLUDO, along with a mix of other software companies. I'm sure that KKR has much more interest in making and hording money than in graphic design software and its humble users . . . . I prefer the Serif Affinity approach much more.
Perhaps the solution is as@firstdefence wrote of, a CAD add-on tool named Hot Doors CADtools that the CAD-oriented Designer users could purchase as needed.
Just my two cents worth! K

I'd like to throw in my 2 cents here.
Firstly I'd like to say how much I like the Affinity products, I'm super happy I bought them and often recommend them to other people.
I've been very excited to here that a new major version has come out and I can see some really nice updates (although maybe not enough warrant a new major version, but that's just my opinion).
I certainly think the new version is well worth the money if you haven't already bought V1, especially on the current offer and the lack of disgusting subscription.
As serif seems to be a good company I imagine V1 will still be supported but new features will only target V2. (so V1 will be left behind, its only natural in software development)
Therefore, please consider rewarding your Loyal customers with a small upgrade discount.
    Thanks for listening

I virtually never post to this sort of thing, but let me say that the Affinity apps have allowed me to do a few unusual jobs more easily than other, competing apps.  Plus, they are far cheaper than their competition.  I also deeply appreciate not being asked to pay a subscription to use them.  Thus, I am upgrading to version 2 of all 3 apps.

Kevin B reacted to walt.farrell in Discount for AP&AD owners when upgrading to V2
Well, V1 lasted for 7 years or so. But no, we do not know how many releases there will be in V2 before it becomes time for Serif to release V3. It may not be as long as V1 was. But generally I would say if the applications provide enough usefulness, to you, for the cost then buy them. If not, don't.
Nor do we know how long the current discount will last. They will probably give some warning via social media, or possibly via email if you've signed up for their marketing emails via your Affinity Store account.

I know very well how people's minds work and why they write a bunch of nonsense on Internet forums. I wanted to draw attention to this point and I am happy to repeat myself: years of free updates are a very high appreciation of existing customers. All customers will now enjoy a good deal on version 2, and the understandable reasons have been explained by Affinity elsewhere.
Side note: Turmoil* may be the business of the many participants who have only been logged into this forum for a few hours. However, I can see no evidence of years of Affinity product use or other signs of loyalty among these participants. This does not make the arguments worse, but it is noticeable.

While I agree that a loyalty discount would be fair, I think that Affinity has more than proven their commitment to us through V1’s (1) price point, (2) performance, (3) tutorial videos, (4) feature updates, and (5) provision of a permanent license without subscription.
Affinity and DaVinci (along with a recent find for photo management, Excire) are my team of Adobe killers. $99 dollars is an unimaginably low price to pay for this suite of tools.  Our continued support of their efforts makes that possible.
Paying $100 every 5 or so years seems the least we could do for products that Adobe would charge *checks notes…$54x60mos…* $3240.
Plus, the Affinity’s Universal License works across Windows, Apple, and iOS.  (I’m still skeptical that I read that correctly. I’m pretty sure I paid separately for iOS last time.)
V1 owners are the primary audience for V2, since Adobe’s marketing budget makes them the Starbucks of design software. New customers will continue to discover the benefits of Affinity, but until then, the 40% discount is pretty much for us.
So that’s my two cents, as a grateful and satisfied customer (who admittedly sounds like a shill).

Most of this discussion is somewhat off-topic to the OP question, ie the fact he has 2 of the 3, and if there is an individual upgrade discount.
At any rate, while I think maintaining the sale price for people who upgrade beyond January 25th would be advantageous (inc on individual apps), even though it is a lot for me on a disability pension for the whole package, having thought about it I know I would regret it later if I didn't upgrade for various reasons, and I'm happy to support their work after having received free updates for so long. If it was in the budget, even the full price would be worth it, even if Publisher wouldn't get as much use.
An interesting aspect to me is the universal license with iPad, and since I have a 1st gen iPad Pro on which Affinity Photo works great, this should be interesting. Going through the list of improvements, what I am trying to determine is what is not mentioned; under-the-hood refactoring, which can be as great or greater amount of work to do, and there is some indication of this in the feature list, and from reviews I've heard the Raw development in Photo has greatly improved. What I am looking to see is improvements in Channel and Mask workflow, in V1 there are some clunkiness that makes it much less versatile compared to Photoshop. I saw you can now combine masks with boolean operators, this is great, I'm looking forward to trying it out.
Don't estimate the amount of work which has gone on in the backend, which has huge ramification for all the apps.

I bought the v1 suite in 2022 and that gave me an free update-span of 6 months.
Then I'm to pay for the product over again to get next update.
It makes me feel like I draw the short straw.
So, planned to wait as I really don't do that much graphic work right now.
But, a book-project turning up on the horizon, so bit the bullet and purchased v2. (as I I thought I'd do it sooner or later)
Anyway: I feel the Affinity-team strive to make a good product for a very reasonable money, so cudos.

First, sorry for my bad english.
I really don't understand why there are so many threads to complain that V1 users don't have an additionnal discount compared to new customers.
A single topic was enought, no need to open them again and again to say the same thing.
It seems that some people "support" a product ou people just to get something back.
I didn't really need the V2 version, the V1 is good enough for me, but i bought it anyway, mainly to support the developpers i just hope as a return that they continue to provide us with a good product, and continue their developpment.
I really don't care about paying the same discount price as the new customers. If the price is right that the most important thing.
In fact,  I'm more concerned by the extension of the duration of the discount price because the longer the discount price is offered, the less value it has.
I'm hopping that SERIF doesn't go to the way of VEGAS or COREL where the "regular" price is just a mirage, and the real price is actually the discount price.
  23. Thanks
Kevin B reacted to PaulEC in Upgrading from V1 to V2
It seems that the most likely reason for the extension was to help people who are waiting for the msi version of the installer to still be able to benefit from the trial period and discount. It's also possible it was to give people with payment problems more time to sort them out. Either way, I'm pretty sure it was just a one-off and I doubt if there'll be any further extensions.

Kevin B reacted to Bardo in Upgrading from V1 to V2
I understand that people who are V1 users, like me, are upset about that they didn't receive a bigger discount, and here are my thoughts on it.
First, most customers want to be rewarded with loyalty, and getting 40% off seemed like a great deal that made everyone happy until people realized that that's the same discount offered to those who've never used/supported an Affinity product before. So in the end, it's not the deal/final price, but the comparison or "not being treated special" that people are upset about. This is somewhat bad optics by Affinity, especially if they presented the discount as a "current users get 40% off" kind of deal that seemed exclusive. Not sure whether or not they did this at launch though.
Secondly, I wonder how much of a deal would have make the V1 users who are complaining feel good. 50% for V1 users, while everyone else got 40%? Perhaps 40% off while everyone else got 30% off? In the end you're talking about a difference of $6 or $7 dollars, people. Is this really worth getting all up in arms about?
Lastly, at $40 these programs are still an amazing value. Affinity software is part of my daily workflow so to pay another $40 to a company that has created a nearly flawless piece of software whose closest competitor costs multiple times this per year seems like a no brainer to me. If I use it for even a year it's paid for itself many times over. We should be thanking Affinity for working on the upgrades and keeping it affordable for us, not complaining because we don't feel "special".
Honestly, let's just all be grateful to have a V2 option that's still so affordable and move on with our lives.

    Hi Designer 2 Users,
I have a .dwg file created in 2020 that opens properly in DWG TrueView 2023, but Designer 2 just hangs forever trying to open it. Some other .dwgs that I have open properly in Designer 2, but many just hang with the status reading Loading document 1 and nothing happens other than the cooling fan spinning-up to high speed.
Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks in advance.
