  1. Braver, there would be no venting if there was (just a glimpse of) any reciprocity.
  2. Earlio, your patient reactions were one of the reasons I kept hanging on, but now I decided not to spend more of my energy, time and good mood to AP. I admire your patience; mine is gone. Wish you all the best
  3. Since I bought a new iMac (febr. 2019), I'm using Affinity Photo (I didn't like the cloud-based version of Photoshop). In the meantime, I've stumbled into so many unsolved bugs, erratic behavior and (worst of all) no solutions, or even reasonable comments from Serif, that I decided to download the free test-version of Adobe Photoshop and . . . . what a relief. Everything runs like clockwork; consistent, responsive and solid. OK, it's 4 times the price, but 10 times worth it. Sorry Serif, I liked you're initiative, but it's not a matter of smart programming alone to bring a competing program to the market. Dealing with customers is an important part of the "look and feel" of a product. And on that part you've got a long way to go. I'm heading back to "Adobe's nest".
  4. Hi, MEB, Hi Earlio. Earlio, I read the whole thread you started somewhere in 2018 (I think). I did turn-off Metal in the prefs, which resulted in a better performance. Was just wondering if Serif had tackled the issue. Like you I stepped into APh as an alternative for Adobe PS (I have been using it since its first appearance around 1990). AP gives impressive performance for the price, but the overall impression still isn't very consistent and sometimes even rather buggy. There's lots of issues, for example: APh won't close a file after saving and keeps asking if I want to save; a file is closed but an empty grey window stays behind; every now and then the app crashes (not often, but still); the graph issue in Levels. There is no consistency in keystrokes to confirm actions (Enter sometimes doesn't work where expected). I'm not a heavy user, so I tend to be rather forgiving (considering the price), but I agree with you that the way these bugs are treated (and the way Serif communicates about the subjects) doesn't generate much confidence for the future of the program. MEB, I attached my specs
  5. Still having the same problem Mojave 10.14.6 and AP 4.7.2. Very annoying Is there any "working on it" going on ?
  6. I guess walt.farrell is right. After a crop action, removed parts are still there and can be "restored" by choosing menu-item "unclip canvas". After "clip canvas" or "flatten image" they are really gone. But, besides that, MOB gave me the right answer at this point; fully satisfied on that one. However, items 2, 3 and 4 are still open.
  7. Thanks, Carl. Although it takes more than 10 seconds to execute, it's still useful. Is there a way to change the width of the border ?
  8. Is there a way to give an image a white border by making the canvas (say) 30 pixels bigger all around by means of a macro . And another one . . . . I couldn't find out a way to remove a (complex) black border similar to "select all - stroke 20 pixels white (inside selection) " in Photoshop ? I get the impression that the whole macro-thing is rather limited
  9. Hey MOB, that's a great answer; exactly what I was looking for . . . . Thanks. Please shine your light on my second question; that one is even more annoying.
  10. Thanks Walt. 1. The crop tool takes the whole image, which means you have to adjust at least four sides or two corners (more work) and then you have to click apply (enter or return doesn't work). 3. Of course I checked that one. The layers palette shows only one layer. It doesn't happen always and I can't reproduce (yet) the circumstances under which it does or does not. 4. Sound reasonable; searched for something like that but couldn't find. Where are these document settings when you're opening a jpeg (f.i.). I found the option when starting a new file.
  11. There's a few things I miss desperately: 1. Cropping an image takes a lot of steps; of course that might be necessary sometimes, but most of the time I would simply like to drag a marquee and hit a keystroke. I do a lot of batch work and especially then, one needs fast and simple shortcuts. 2. When (again) I have to batch-edit a lot of images (say . . . adjusting the white background with the brush tool); one always has to re-select the brush tool and after that re-select the color (which has changed from background to foreground or vice versa) for each image. Why not let the same tool and colour be selected when going to the next image. 3. It happenes a lot, that I have to close (cmd-W) an image three times before it really closes (even after having saved it first); I simply get the same dialog box three times. The same with flattening. When I first choose "Flatten" in the "Document" menu and then cmd-S for saving, AP aks again if I want to save the image flattened or not. 4. After having resized the canvas slightly to give an image a (white) border, the "new" area is transparant (showing a grey checkered texture; one would expect that area to be white after having flattened the image; that's not the case; it stays transparent.
  12. Thanks Ron, I didn't say that I can't select the entry, but that the (first) entry isn't automatically selected (like in PS). In PS you can immediately start typing (or, more often, paste) a new number ; in AP that results in inserting the new number "inside" the existing one which results in huge numbers by accident. Besides that the process is more complex in AP. I often used PS to resize a bunch of images to the same size, by simply choosing "Image Size.." - cmd V (1500 f.i.) - enter - cmd S - cmd W (1 mouse + 4 keyboard actions); this could also be put in an action easily. In AP I have to choose "Resize Document" - double click size-box - cmd V - click enter - cmd S - cmd W (mouse - mouse - keyboard - mouse - 2 keyboard actions) > far more complex and impossible to put in a macro.
  13. I'm a longtime Photoshop user switching to Affinity Photo. Of course it would be nice if I wouldn't have to retrain my "muscle-memory" a lot. One of differences that causes me a lot of trouble is the way dialog-boxes react. For instance: in the Resize Document (and Canvas) dialogbox, clicking on the numbers in the size fields doesn't select them (as in Photoshop) but inserts the cursor "somewhere". I often end up with a (very long-lasting) spinning wheel, because I have entered a new number, not instead of the old one, but inserted in the old one, ending up with huge numbers. Downsizing a 1280 px wide image might end up in a 12(1024)80 px wide document, clicking "Resize" automatically . . . . . . I keep "Force quitting" the program. Another point: why isn't there an "Enter" or "Return" keyboard option to enter the new values and close the dialog box ?
