  1. Many thanks for the replies. Re Brians's question , oddly I was not able to! Very strange since I had not changed my password and I operate Nordpass and have a hard copy of the password. Anyhow I have reset it and that worked! I am very grateful indeed. Hard not to think that Serif could have been a little more explicit about why I couldn't run the trial but now at least I can see if it's worth upgrading thanks to you both...
  2. Hi, I am very frustrated at not being able to get a trial version of Affinity Photo 2 to run. I clearly am doing something wrong as when I run it, it asks me for an email but also a password which I obviously don't have. I am currently a user of Affinity Photo 1 so tried the password for that but that wasn't right. (See attachment.) Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong? Have I downloaded the wrong version? Where is the right one? I am very keen to see if the upgrade is worth it for me but Affinity are not making it easy to find out and their lack of customer service is truly frustrating. Thanks in advance, Martin
  3. It would be much better if changes like this were well flagged - I've spent half an hour searching to see if my installation was faulty. A very annoying mis-step by Serif . I think this change is unhelpful as now we need to perform two clicks instead of one to open the adjustment box. Could it not be made an option?
  4. My version of affinity Photo has stopped working in crucial ways. First sign was loss of link to Affinity Publisher. After that I lost (and could not recover) the image adjustments such as levels, curves etc. and also many option with the View/Studio panel were "greyed out". RAW files could be loaded but not "developed" in any way and there was no option to cancel the operation meaning that I had to use Task manager to even close the program. Any idea what has gone wrong? Also worringly I am not able to uninstall the program ! The uninstall process stalls at "Preparing to remove".
  5. I have just done a heavy stint of editing 700+ images (copies of art work for archiving to be precise). I did a few basic edits (crop, level adjustments etc) and a final Unsharp Masking. No problems until the last batch of twenty where the preview of the Unsharp Mask was simply inaccurate typically over-estimating the final effect. I am assuming this is bug as my work flow did not vary that much - or am I missing something? Oh and probably not related but very occasionally there was no histogram in the Levels Adjustment window... Any help appreciated... but that task is thankfully finished!
  6. Totally agree with Jeremy. Really quite simple things are made frustrating nightmares by such confusions. It's the lack of feedback that is the problem. But Affinity's pluses ("forcing" you to work with adjustment layers , the preview features, general efficiency etc.) mean it's worth persevering.
  7. In Photoshop I often used the technique of selecting an area (eg of burnt out sky) and then moving that selection (simply by dragging) onto a different image. The selection could be moved and then a portion of the second image could be cut and pasted back into image number one that would precisely fit the original selection. (I hope this is clear - the actual process was simple and very fast.) This doesn't seem possible in Affinity Photo - I can "Save" a selection and "Load" it to a different image but it appears it cannot be re-positioned. Is what I want possible? Thanks in advance.
  8. Thanks everyone for the responses. In fact I mis-typed and my image does indeed look lighter as Carl123 points out. I still don't get though why the brush strokes have any transparency. Or put another way, is it not possible to have a totally solid colour when drawing (even when opacity, flow and hardness are 100%)? I get the feeling I may be missing something. This is hardly a serious issue but somehow when things don't behave as expected it is slightly disconcerting.
  9. Hi, I am a long time (25 years plus!) Photoshop user trying to migrate and am generally very happy but keep running into what I see as puzzling behaviour. For instance I created a new image and simply drew with a graphics tablet using brush set at 100% opacity. I then duplicated the layer. So two layers - opacity is 100%, blending mode is normal. Switching off the "top" layer makes the image darker. Why should this be? I attach another example I just sketched. And also when doing multilayer montage with a lot of cloning etc. sometimes for some reason a layer will suddenly not accept the clone brush tool. It seems rasterising sometimes helps but the behaviour seems fairly random and plays havoc with my workflow. Any ideas? Thanks in advance with any suggestions. 2 layers.afphoto
