  1. Figured I'd post this here too. Bleeds are set in document settings. They are not margins and you shouldn't need to hand draw crop marks!
  2. You should set the artboard to be the size of your page. Bleeds are set in document settings.
  3. @Markus Allen you should check out the Pen Tool Tutorial. I believe the answer you're looking for might be at about the 30 second mark. If that doesn't answer your question, as Lee D suggested a screenshot would be useful.
  4. The best way to preview a filter or modification is to make an Adjustment Layer, which you can then turn on/off or add a Mask to later. You can export this to whatever image format without needing to "merge" the layers. In fact, you shouldn't merge them if it isn't necessary! "Merge" is a destructive command as it is permanently changing the underlying image. If you are setting a filter or something like that, there are little icons in the panel that allow you to create a split view and preview the before/after:
  5. Well, when you have multiple objects selected you already get these. Affinity is also generally good with auto-spacing things with snaps + guides so I don't often end up using the Even Distribution alignment tool. Custom alignment icons? I'd be curious to know how to do that.
  6. What browser are you using? Are you on mobile? Videos usually embed but maybe it doesn't work well everywhere Here is the link
  7. If you are doing it in the export dialogue, there is a little lock icon between the width and the height fields. Try clicking on this lock so that there is no line connecting the height and width, then change the resolution. EDIT: Note that this will most likely skew or crop (I forget which is the default) your image. You should make sure that your canvas or artboard aspect ratio matches your export ratio.
  8. Thanks for the reply v_kyr. I saw that thread. I'd be kinda surprised if it was overlooked and nobody noticed but I guess there may not be a lot of people using AD SVG exports. I took a look at that page earlier; seems like exactly what I want but I'm not sure how I would go about making certain layers or groups be treated as SVGs within the export SVG.
  9. So I'm not sure if I'm missing something. When I export a file with layers and groups into SVG and have "relative coordinates" checked, it seems that the coordinates of the elements within a group are not relative to the parent at all? My goal is to have a hierarchy of all my layers and have their x y coordinates be relative to their parent object. Right now it seems as though the x y coordinates are always relative to the 'canvas' I am only mildly familiar with the SVG code structure so I may be misunderstanding what I am reading, but a lot of the x y values I am reading do not seem relative to their parents. I will try to provide an example soon. I am currently unable to access AD at the moment and I just wanted to see if some knowledgeable folk would know why "relative coordinates" are not exactly relative? Thanks,
  10. I am assuming that by "grad" you mean gradient. You could be more specific about what exactly you want. I'm not sure what you mean by "cloud darkening job". Gradients and Adjustment Layers in AD are pretty much as they are in Photoshop so I'm not exactly sure where you are getting hung up. The tutorial video that stokerg posted, Graduated ND Filter Effect, shows a few different methods and effects but they all are essentially using an adjustment layer with a gradient as a mask.
  11. Just verified this always happens in my Designer also. This should be reported as a bug. If whenever you go into the gradient color picker and it is red, then why even have the color picker swatch available there? It should most likely match the one in the main toolbar.
  12. I suggest you check out the Perspective tools, if you haven't already, as it serves most purposes that the transform tools in photoshop would. I think this may be what others are missing in their demonstrations; the shadow needs to follow a proper perspective. Live Perspective (Non Destructive): and here is an Overview of other perspective tools
  13. Hi all, I'm Patrick, illustrator currently working in the field with mostly Adobe (and CorelDraw which I admit I've come to enjoy working in more than Illustrator), but been using Affinity on a lot of personal work since I love the simplicity in its design. Still hoping for more in future. I will try my best to answer questions here on the forum when I can and keep an eye out for new ones
  14. I've been using CorelDraw for a while at work and I love how it deals with fill & stroke, as well as utilizing the right click in general: 1. When selecting colors, using the left mouse button will define the fill, and when using right mouse button it defines the stroke. (This saves so much time and I always loathe moving back to Illustrator or Designer because of the lack of this feature. It eliminates the need for the two color selectors.) 2. When dragging any object, if you decide you want to copy it instead, simply right click while still dragging the object and a copy will be made. 3. If you right click + drag instead of left click drag, then position the object on top of another object/layer and release, you get a few options from a drop down: - copy fill - copy stroke - copy all properties - Powerclip inside (place inside) All in all I just like the use of the right click since it gets rid of the need to be holding Alt/Ctrl/Shift or a combination of the three all the time. I can see that it might be a big departure from the current workflow for some but I thought I'd at least propose it seeing as I use it all the time in Corel and would gladly port the features to all other softwares if I could.
  15. Another workaround suggestion; you could turn the logo into a vector brush then apply it to a line. You could then curve that line as you wish. If you then want it as a "true" vector you would have to trace over the vector brushed line.
  16. Do views not already do this? You can make a new view window and use it as you would your regular view, zoom to whatever level etc, while working close up on your main view. Example:
  17. This can be found in the stroke panel, there is a small box with "Pressure:" to the left. There is an example in this video at 2:10:
  18. This was requested over two years ago now. This is the only thing preventing our graphics team from switching to Affinity at the moment. I'd add that it'd be very helpful to be able to create some kind of hierarchy in the slices export (and have their positions be relative to their parent slices) We're using ExportKit and Photoshop at the moment, but the licence for ExportKit is super expensive. We'd love to be able to use Affinity for everything.
  19. +1 for this request Don't understand why when they implemented the Batch Builder function that they didn't have any option for custom settings.
  20. I was using Export persona. My problem is with exporting slices with the same name. I don't want the x/y coordinates as path variables; I am getting them from the JSON Spline file from Affinity's "Batch Builder" drop down menu in the slices panel. However, they use the center point instead of the top left point, which isn't a huge deal but it's not what I would ultimately want. Either way, my problem is when two slices have the same name (ex: SLICE1) they both export and are named as SLICE1 and SLICE1_2. Is it possible to have only one export but have both sets of coordinates be included in the JSON Spline export?
  21. Hi, I create UI for work and we often have reusable elements in our designs; when these are exported they have the same name but different X Y coordinates on the page. I'd like to start using Affinity for this but there is a slight issue. Currently when Affinity exports two Slices with the same name, it adds a number to the file name of the repeat slices. Is there a way to disable/override this? My goal is to have only one of the repeat slices exported but still have the coordinates for each in the Batch Builder export. Also it would be great to have some more advanced control on the Batch Builder presets in future hehe
