1- For me it is similar, in that in Publisher at least, Tapping to Place the image misaligns altogether opposed to when in APhoto it places correctly within the Frame. Have not noticed it covering all other Layers though.
Generally, I adhere to traditional Placing of items…Drag out…if it occurs, to ensure proper placement…which also places AutoFlow items correctly as well.‘But just tapping…at times also notice it places the smallest size of it, based on that tap, instead of full sized one, so resort to dragging instead now.
2- Not sure what search field you mean. If in the Find/Replace it should pop up automatically.
If it is on the Fields (three dots on Panel column on right)- that info has to be entered by you first, but not there. You have to create a Text Frame…enter the Frame (as if going to type or paste) then select Document (hamburger) > Insert > Fields….and then can select type of Fields to add to the Frame and the Document itself. Then when choosing the 3 Dots on Panel/Fields…the information input will appear.
3- Might want to check that Preview Mode…little window wiper icon between Magnifying Glass And Snap on top right… is Off.

Typically, I use Photos as a source all the time with no issues. Use Files similarly as well.
‘When choosing from Photos…yes it does present you with shortcuts, favorites or albums created, usually that you made beforehand.
But if you simply choose the first RECENTS it will simply open all images within your Photos, not just a few but all.
‘If you choose the other Recently Added then yes…it will show only the few 1-10+ images you recently added.
Right there with you on this being a confusing naming redundancy, but I use Recents when looking in Photos for all apps…not just Affinity…and all photos can be scrolled through, not just select ones. Works fluidly.

Can thank Paul Mudditt for this…(and nod to DM1, for his contribution)…as he definitely deserves a patience award as well for helping sort this puzzle out.
20 hours ago, Paul Mudditt said:It is a bit flakey and crashes a few times but watch until the end. Open a dummy document then use the Place tool.
Got it to work…and all in Publisher, no other Personas used.
Basically…Opened a New Document (A4…but any New) > Select Place (from Toolbar) > Selected From Files…to locate PDF > Select PDF and goes back to Pub
Placed PDF on page (just like an image) and all pages filled in automatically
‘Highlight/Select Page 1 > Open Layers Panel of Page 1 > Tap on the first Layer at top of Panel twice…for me there was a slight delay (even tapped on it a few more times)
Select Package from Document Menu (hamburger) > Select a location to create a file to Save Package (also name it) > prompts will open in a new window
Package Window should have information on PDF, including options to select Include Fonts and Include Images (if greyed out or unable to select on/off, must start over)
‘Select Package at bottom right…..Can Close out of file (even close doc without saving if you want)
‘Where Live Docs area is, select Open > go to location of Package Save is and open the Package.
Full PDF is now Text Frames - not individual separate Text Lines - but full paragraph Text Frames. Can Text Frame Link, Edit Text in Text Frames, apply Styles etc as normal.
-
Can tell you I have been learning lots with this YouTuber…and though most of it is for Pub V1, she covers Paragraph Styles and basically everything…most not mattering too much if using V2, same concepts in these tools overall.
https://youtube.com/@ElaineGiles
But for this… if you set the Character, Font, etc differently and want to change I believe you can go back to Styles at Left List which takes you to the main screen and Reset…just a specific one.

Yeah mine was set to the max. I lowered it to 100. How can i save all of my live docs though? Thank you
Archive documents in Files folders, or using Cloud Storage instead of always keeping them as Live Docs.
Should reduce better.
-
Can be a lot of things, but firstly…the Storage indicator can also be a little quirky.
Archiving Documents in Files folders, instead of keeping them as Live Docs, can help. Keeping them as Live Docs is like keeping Open Tabs in Safari (or web browser). Similarly, keeping Apps always open without closing them can offer as data usage/memory.
‘It will correct itself or at least try, if you perform Hard Resets of the iPad occasionally, to clear memory caches.
Updates and such can add to App file size, so it is why it’s important to always archive outside the app when possible.

Yeah, that seemed to be a leftover from the initial launch version or something. The actual release notes are here:
Fix inability to open a non-affinity file, save from home screen swipe, close, then open again. - Must have been an issue for some, but doesn’t even touch this issue.
Reinstated burger menu in the document viewer. Removed Save/Save menu items As from within the document. - Terrible idea..should be able to Save from within an Open Document while working on it.
Saving a unsaved document will now bring up the Save dialog to ask where to save it. - Redundant but obviously useful.
You can now slide up on the 'cancel/deselect' button at the lower left corner to activate 'Delete' functionality. - Yet the Undo function does not work in Recovering what was Deleted this way, in the ‘hidden aspect’ of this capability, in case of accident.
Would think that although Publisher is brand new to iPad, it would be highly more inclusive…just as Affinity Photo and Designer were when they were introduced….given that it was unofficially announced and discussed to release 2 years ago.
Although, there are still even basic features missing on those, and they’re on what for the finale V1 Update version again years later?

Quite a few of the desktop features haven't made it into this first iPad version yet. Keep in mind that although marketed as "v2", it's in fact APu for iPad "1.0". I'm pretty confident that the majority of the still missing features will be eventually added.
That’s understandable. Though all that was given for info with the actual 2.0.2. Update…was “**Everything!**”….which seems minus a lot of “everything”.

When i create a new document setting and drag it to where I want it in the list, when i reopen the app the new document has moved to the bottom of the list again!
Can confirm. Stays in place while APub remains Open….. reverts back to bottom of the List after completely closing APub app.

Do me a favour and go the the other FAQ post I linked and like it and add a comment there. I am finding it really hard to get the message out even to the Serif guys that this is the solution.
Added all that I could, seems I’m over the limit to do so “today” whatever that is but ….gave you the Purple Cup for this one! Only Sith deal in Absolutes…so guess instead of absolute fix will keep it a fashionable Jedi- Brillant fix!

Familiar. Just have no need or use them….other than what is apparently already inherent in Opening and Saving Documents.
Update: This! This! This! This is the solution to the mystery!
My God….Thank You, Paul Mudditt! Brilliant…..absolutely Brilliant!
In Files, select saved document > Select Share > select App to Open in > After document opens in AD V2 > Save ….Now Opens consistently In AD V2!!!
3 minutes ago, Paul Mudditt said:I found that the file association problem can be corrected by using them once.
Everything solved….although the nice little AD V2 icon is no more, will suffer it just to finally know how how to correct even if it occurs again!
Brilliant! Thanks again, Paul Mudditt! I can now go back to regularly scheduled programming …well, not programming per se but creating with one less issue….now onto the other ones.

Exactly,I stopped using the Affinity folders several years ago, they are not needed. Make your own folder structures in iCloud and archive your work using your own personal preferences. I pickup my iPad work from my folders in iCloud and vice versa.
What you fail to understand…or explain how to fix…is that I have created my own Folder to put these Files into, have opened them in AD V2 to Save them into that folder…after creating a Brand New document to do so…and they STILL only open in AD V1 (yet fail to open because made in V2).
Using iCloud vs. Locally is your fix?? And what if I don’t want to use iCloud this way?
-
Yes, agree completely with having the Save/Save As within an Opened Document. Though only a few taps…is still time consumed from workflow.
I do not mind the new Left Swipe and the Hamburger Save/Save As redundancy, probably up to personal preference ….it just seems like there could have been more options associated in each.

I use an iPad Pro v.3 256G, and love it. Truly a Mobile Studio with all the apps like Affinity Photo/Design/Pub, Procreate, LumaFusion, Nomad, etc.
Suggest getting at least a 256G, as currently with all of the Creative Apps I use, and the Saved Documents of each (plus any created images, videos etc), have only used half of the storage capacity (120G of 256G)- which may seem like an abundance but can easily see how it could exponentially grow in used space.
App File Sizes are manageable, in that if you don’t retain/store a lot of files within…such as in the Live Documents area…it will keep the Apps file data down to minimal. But it can grow larger (talking Gig size even) if not performing Hard Resets to clear caches, etc….and also must be noted, Apple iPads have a weird way of configuring app/data information. But for most part, like all things…if you practice good Archiving of Files/Documents, should have no real issues.
I use the Apple Pencil as well, and must say it is a must to include in purchase, and use in Apps. Affinity Apps work great with it, very fluid. There will be variations of fluidity between Apps though, but that is typically the actual Software Engine implemented by developers- and possibly just how massive the App is in including Tools, Operations, etc. Procreate is very fluid for Digital Painting with Apple Pencil…and Affinity Photo/Designer is not bad at all, and has definitely improved in V2!

YouTube will be your primary avenue for learning….if elsewhere is unaffordable, and that’s understandably fine.
Since there is a combination of Vector and Pixel capabilities in Designer, you can learn basic fundamentals with the Serif Tutorials on YouTube, just Subscribe. https://youtube.com/@AffinityDesignerOfficial
There are also several other Affinity Designer Tutorials focused from Affinity Designer Version 1 here https://youtube.com/@Affinitybyserif
Other more advanced Tutorial are out there, just look for Vector Illustration, Boolean, Curves and Nodes or Affinity Designer/Illustrator in searches. Though Affinity Designer and Illustrator are different apps, the basic practices and principles are the same (just note some Tools names and/or Terms might differ).
Other aspects of Digital Illustration/Painting can be learned from a vast types of Tutorials out there…all the way to Procreate types of Tutorials. Then it just takes combining what you learn into using Affinity Designer to create what you want.

This is an iPadOS file extension problem, there was never any need to do all those load and saving steps.
IOS/iPadOS handles file extensions in a weird way, if you create and use the Open in Designer V2 shortcut only once using the share interface from the files app, then iPadOS remembers that the V2 app is being used. From then on they will open directly from the files app without the shortcut until the next time an Open in V1 app shortcut is used when you need to use it again to alter the file extension associations.
Mad isn’t it, nothing to do with Serif though !
Obviously replace Designer here by Photo or Publisher as needed.Great explanation.
So when my AD V2 File Folder (with V2 icon) automatically reverts to an AD V1 icon file folder doing all of this…..and have not used the Share feature at all, but simply Opened from Files Folder later…….how and what am I supposed to do to fix this, so that it behave normally ….like APhoto which didn’t even remotely do this….exactly?? (not even mentioning where the Graphic above came from)Not use my Files Folders at all ever again….only the App??

Thanks DM1 but that workaround doesn’t work for me sadly. The Designer persona in iPad Publisher seems to place each page of the PDF as a single image., which I can’t edit. And - although the page size is exactly that of the imported document, it messily fails to align each page (image) with the art board. Regardless, the text isn’t editable for me when placed through Designer persona.
Same. And it seems it should be quite a simple thing to Select an Area of Text, and combine/convert the selected into a Text Frame together (that is editable.)
I mean, seeing as how if you add Filler Text to a Text Frame…and can simply highlight to Expand the Filler Text, so you can actually edit the Filler Text (for simple Layout items)…Grouping Separate Text into a single Text Frame should be a no-brainer.
Have tried numerous Operations, including the obvious…Convert to Text Frame and nothing.
And this is just from Importing a PDF. Haven’t even had resources to try another File type.

Think the ‘move’ message is coming from iPadOS file handling dialogue box, a side effect of yesterdays V2.0.2 very quick release, move works the same as save, I expect V2.0.3 to turn up soon.
So this the new Windows Vista version for the iPad? ……….😂

LOL, yeah I did get a little zoned- sorry. Now it looks like V2 files will also open in V1. ( Just tried with Photo and no problem). I do wish Affinity developers would communicate changes that they make.
Other little surprises: no more Save/Save a Copy in Document menu , a new delete bin (swipe on the x icon), new Save functionality on Home Screen.
What’s funny is…this feels like a Video Game that’s been rushed to release too early, with the expectation of releasing update fixes while player’s suffer, instead of releasing what a finished AAA Game should be.🤦
Can open all files just fine within AD V2, just can’t if I’m in Files saved folders. (Which I tend to be frequently, what with Archiving and such.
Basically, it’s like the AD File folder gets completely overwritten by V1…no matter what. In the Files folder, APhoto/APub V2 are each there with V2 Logo Icons…but no matter how/what/when/why, there are sometimes just one but 2 ADesign V1 Icon File folders created. No V2 Icon Folder….unless I start fro scratch and install V2 only.

I can personally attest to this….as I suffered through trying to correct this small annoyance, and had drastic outcomes…but with a single simple solution to the after effect of it all…and can honestly say- don’t waste your time worrying about it.
Just create and Name new folders. ✌️
