Nicely done..like it. Has a smooth clean feel to it Tonally.
Though there are distinct light source issues in the characters ...as main ‘sun’ light source seems more upper left (or behind)..based on buildings, which match well- But ‘church’ is a bit darker than the ‘lighthouse’...would lighten church, to fade more distant atmospherically.
A bit mismatched on main center figure...seems opposite occurs, needs more of that pale blue on right side (near car). And main zombie on right...a bit in a ‘spotlight’. Basically can’t tell if there is a main directional light source...bit to wonky. Could try Horizontal Flip on some...so each better has the same, along with proportional. Would either lose the Weed at tire, or change color to a more ‘dead weed’ (brownish?) to match terrain more.
Overall though..think it is a nice Composite Concept piece! Just needs a few tweaks.

Many have access to Video Tutorials for learning the awesome uses in Affinity Photo (methods, techniques, UI, etc)...but also many are iPad users.
Mostly easy to follow, as there are a few by iPad Users (on iPads or using), or by Serif (Affinity) themselves... but more often they are made by those using Desktop version.
Can be difficult to follow, being different User Interface.
Know this is common knowledge by a lot of users...but this might be helpful in following along or rewatching them, aside from taking notes, to more easily locate things.
Live visual previews are nice....but until knowing what and where....can make it more difficult to learn.
A lot are in Studios toolbar or Tools when using....but Toggle to List in Panels can help for others (then can just enjoy Live Preview on Canvas, as designed).

The thing I’m confused about is in the video when he goes to drawing brushes and I don’t have that on my iPad and I have taken a lot of notes on this as well
You do have that on iPad....Paintbrush and Eraser brush is what he is using (the little pencil...is actually for the eraser....Brush is for pencil, ink, oils etc- actual drawing).
‘I’m on an iPad Pro...so know it can be confusing...taking from Desktop Tutorials...but the basics are the same. Sometimes, just a matter of different areas or places where things are....as we have no Toolbar at top (but most everything is there...just have to locate).
In using the Eraser....he is simply mimicking the same thing as a Brush would do.
‘Brush- White Color..to Add, based on white text....Black Color...to Hide (just like Erase) based on Black background.
Eraser simply doing what it does....to reduce or clear.

Notes or rewatching are are indeed a good things to make...especially in Tutorial Videos that are without commentary (or this type with music).
If able...Screenshots can be another easy visual note tool. The more complex it is...might have to be a combination of both- 1 to have Visuals, 2 for Actual Steps.
Like this ScreenShot grab taken (pause video first, then take)

Then you can see the Basics of things (Layout...Layers..Organization etc).‘This one being particularly simple really....being just Layering....the following actually starting process at the bottom, then adding one by one on top of ....
1- Type Text......can leave as is, to edit and still do this...or Rasterize, if wanting other effects
-Live HSL Adjustment ....at top, so can continue adjusting for Color
-Texture Image....any image desired can be used...for this more of cracking dry mud....set to Multiply- to ‘cover’ everything beneath..
-Paintbrush Pixel Layer....for rendering outside of Text (retaining Text to its own form)...using simple texturized type Brush White Color (to match Text)....
-Paintbrush Pixel Layer (set to Brush black or to match background)...or can use Erase if Text is Rasterized first...to create Text Crumbling,or other ON Text
-Text....the actual text
Each is on its own Layer.....meaning you can continue editing and adjusting each....(with Layer Linking- can do multiple at same time can learn later)...even add FX etc.
Do this more than once to practice...then it will be clear, and will laugh at how simple and easy to do later for anything similar.
Just quick example- using my own random image...and not going for explosive effect...but to show can do similarly with anything..

Chose ‘Distortions > Equations’ in the Filters Studio and play with the parameters, or use a macro such as the one provided here:
The file you need for Affinity Photo on iPad is the *.macros one, with ‘s’ on the end of the filename extension. The iPad version of APh doesn’t understand *.macro files.
Works well on iPad...for a quick macro, just choose the 2nd ‘B’ link to download.
Otherwise...use the Filters> Shear (using tab tables)...or Pen Tool, to create your own on a Text on Path (Art Text> Tap on Line Path- red/green triangles to adjust text placement)- use Nodes and such too further manipulate.

Really nice work! Love it as is, and think works as intended..simply having main focus and inclusion of depth by using the plane in background, gives a lot of Narrative.
Even don’t mind the look...as Tone values match throughout. I might have added a bit more highlighting/shadowing to each (crane and plane), as both are a bit flat,,,and even in a misty airspace, would offer a bit more depth to them and each other.
But really lovely overall.

I’d be looking at how much system ram (not storage) was available. The Pro versions used to have double the system ram (4GB) but I haven’t checked latest specs.
I concur....RAM over storage, as storage is easier to come by. On an iPad Pro 12.9, v.3, 256G...and it’s a powerhouse, still.

Just been and checked the rubber band mode on the Desktop works the way I expect, and am used to - it does. The nearest in my view is the Smart Mode on the Pen Tool.
As you say @StudioJason, there is no cursor and I suspect this is why it's a difficult thing to achieve on the iPad programmatically. The interaction is quite different if you think about it.
There does seem an opportunity to me, though, for Serif to introduce the ability to adjust curve handles as you draw with the Pen Tool in Smart Mode. The three finger touch modifier doesn't appear to do anything in the Mode, at the moment - my quick test (could be wrong). It might prove a bit difficult to get the hang of, with only the really skilled able to use it perhaps. This may be why they've not done it.
That’s why I suggest simply adjusting the way you work, using the Edit button...switching to Node tool (and back to Pen when done). Hands free basically, and does the same/similar thing...can move, adjust modes, adjust nodes and extensions, all on the fly.

Forgive the idiot question, but you're sure these settings have not crept into your app defaults, @StudioJason?
I suspect it's all too easy to save to defaults, not realising there's a whole heap of settings included that you've chosen during the course of working. I'm, quite frankly, wary of the save to defaults feature for this very reason. Might be something I've not understood yet of course.
It sounds like it's possible your defaults have acquired these nuances, if even creating an entirely new document doesn't reset these things... that's what defaults are afterall. I would not be surpised, however, if Serif have allowed the defaults to end up rather arbitrary - there are some careless aspects to these apps (in early versions only remember, so perhaps forgivable for now, as annoying as it is).
I suggest quitting the app completely (dragging it off screen), and then opening a new document. See if the settings are still in place and if they are, then query whether and when you've used Save to defaults.
Yes...and nope, none of the above. Typically do not set anything for default, as I’m always designing things of multiple varieties, and even then constantly needing ‘from scratch’ type settings (too much differences). Not really an issue for me, but thanks.

Rubber band is pretty much Desktop....though at least can similarly use to some extent, by Tap of Edit button (on left of Pen Tool pop up toolbar).
Can’t ‘drag and hold’ anything, such as with a mouse...no cursor with Apple Pencil/Stylus...can’t really preview anything.
But, if you Tap that Edit button...temporarily switches to Node Tool...then can in a way, get a preview by adjusting things(Nodes, bars, any other specific types, etc)...then Tap to deselect Edit button.... continue/finish out....as a fast alternative.

Hum, I hesitate to try to help as I’m not practiced with constraints. As no one else has contributed, I thought I’d try.
You’ve checked through the transform studio constraints to make sure there’s no lingering constraint setting on any child or parent object you’re then attempting to group normally? Long sentence - I hope you follow my logic there.
This kind of thing happens to a lot of the settings to...residual or lingering, so is an accurate description. Some just don’t seem to reset when opening a creating a new file....even if choosing the Transform Studio- often keeps Anchor Points changed/selected from previous. May be intended or a bug, can be frustrating, but either way just know now to check things like Constraints and such.

Same here...all Previews, nothing different before or after 1.9. IPad Pro 12.9, v3, 14.3 iOS

Could be lots better....but just playing around with the 1.9 Pattern creator. Thought I’d do a quick one applying Adjustments to it and such, see how it could translate into some graphic design imagery uses.
‘Nothing major or project-wise...just some fun experimenting. Grabbed a photo...basic layer stuff, on a Pool. 🤣

Figured already a manageable method, just thought as lots just simply using standard B/W Color Adjustment...might find interesting or useful, especially in understanding the ‘why and how’ of it. Definitely appreciate the info you shared...will make my own preset for this one too. Thanks.
-
Just a standard alone intended post for a B/W Adjustment Correct Setting Preset offered by Affinity Revolution for AP, I found. (If already posted...apologize).
Easy add/install...works great, highly stunning noticeable difference...for converting Color Images to B/W. Can add other adjustments of course, but gives proper overall basic Value Toning transference.
Use the iPad Pro 12.9, v3 here...and able to install, works awesome. (Video is for standard Desktop version, but able to do on iPad as well).
-
Found this a while back...and is for Affinity Photo- is a simple easy format and easy install as a Preset. Based on settings transferring Value Tones for both B/W and Color simultaneously...so correct values are displayed in either. Is a basic Correct use of a Standard B/W Adjustment use.
Even Free Downloadable Link in Description...even gives the Color Card to test. Results are really unbelievably good. You’ll definitely notice the difference.Downloaded and installed, works perfectly...even on iPad. Can then add other Adjustments to vary desired Brightness/Darkness...but overall Value Tones remain same.
Affinity Revolution - Stop doing this to your Black & Whites

Nicely done. Having fun doing similar, just not the samples. But cool ‘testing’ idea!
-
Been using Affinity Photo for a long while now on iPad Pro 12.9, v.3...and loving the new 1.9 updates.
Just thought I’d share a piece..an ‘Affinity-chop’ Concept work...noticed that I actually did last year... 🤣..but thought I’d start off with it before others more recent.
In a style of more Fantasy or Literary, not going for Photorealistic, but for mood..ambiance... (plenty of realism though).

Yes..as DM1 stated. Those are Assets. Presets are different....Saving Adjustment types along with settings made within. But hey, at least know a possible work around on iPad currently ...for Presets. But glad you found what wanted.
-
Edited, the first original reply.....as that was not really for Presets, but more for Downloading Content. Presets don’t have a way to Load on iPad, that I’m aware.
But..there is a workaround...f you have an Affinity Photo Document (including Layers, Adjustments, etc)...can open it in Affinity Photo, then ‘add preset’/save (and Name on ‘pop-up’ given)...then look for the Preset Saved and use.

Thanks to all! Know it is a typical type of idea...just figured bypassing the commonly used Whales/Dolphin theme.✌️
