  1. Is there any communication available on this topic ? should I post somewhere else for someone in the know to see my question ?
  2. I have to know whether or not this is going to improve in future versions. Is there a roadmap I can look up ? I'm used to Blender's more open development style, and I understand not every developer does that, but at some point there needs to be clarity. What are the plans ? Is this area likely to improve ? Thank you, Hadrien
  3. Hi, thanks for the suggestion! Choosing nearest neighbour does just that, but doesn't appear to change the definition of the images. At full zoom, the preview images that appear in place of the "real" ones are made up of blocks 8px wide, when they should be 1px (because the linked images match the document resolution and are not scaled). I understand this is not the support forum, but I can provide the file if you think there is something worth trying. Thanks ! Hadrien
  4. Hi all, forgive the clickbait title. I use a GTX970 which admittedly is far from new, but canvas compositing is not just sluggish, it doesn't update at all my linked resources when I zoom on the image, even after I've let ten minutes pass. On the other hand any compositing software works smoothly with composites that are much more complex. It seems like it's trying to recalculate everything (including live effects such as blur) every time I change the zoom level, every time I move a layer, basically any action causes a full recalculation. Is there even any caching going on? any plans to move away from OpenCL? (which is a discontinued standard) The card has 4Gib of memory by the way, which is well enough to handle a single A0 150DPI image (as evidenced by most of my other pictures which lack live effects and work somewhat more smoothly). Even selecting layers in the layer stack stops working half the time on that specific image. I'm trying to get work done and it seems mad that even waiting for the canvas to update does nothing. I'm not sure what more I can do? I will upgrade my hardware at some point in the near future but right now it is a daily struggle. So I guess my question is, are there plans to improve canvas updates and general reactivity in Publisher? Thank you
  5. Thanks @Old Bruce ! it's an improvement, now my 6 chapters go 1, 2, then start over at 1 until 4. Seems like I have to wrap my head around this numbering thing still, ... what could be the reason it restarts after a while ? should I upload my file instead of beating around the bush ? edit : there's something super fishy going on, and I wonder if that's not related to my file corruption issue (logged after 1.9.1 release) : one chapter appears twice in my TOC, on pages 10 and 14. It's actually on page 14 so I have no idea what's going on. I'll investigate some more...
  6. Hi all, I realize this is a very basic thing, so basic in fact that none of the tutorials I've watched seem to even mention it. I've been searching for hours (on forums, etc) for how to do this : the guide I'm making has chapters -so far so good. But they're all numbered with the number 1. My expectation was that this number would increment each time a paragraph is assigned the text style in question. I would greatly appreciate any pointers, I'm so tired of looking around. Pretty sure it's right before my eyes but I can't find it. Cheers, Hadrien
  7. I had been experiencing pretty much *all of those bugs* and it was quite discouraging : APu had slowed to a crawl, alignment and snapping issues, inline & pinned media moving about strangely, text not obeying wrap settings, and so on. Thanks a lot for the fixes ! just in time for a deadline this afternoon. Hadrien hmmmm wait it crashes on saving now. Will report.
  8. Hah, I love seeing issues being sorted out. I can't say how to replicate the corruption in my file -I guess it could have happened at any point, although like I said it was just, uh... prep work ? I hadn't actually made anything with that layout yet, just the master pages with some elements on it... really basic stuff, so I don't where it could have gone wrong. If it happens again you'll hear from me (not in a confrontational way, I mean I'll just ping you).
  9. Some of it may indeed be due to my own limited knowledge, I just don't know how much. I'll try to round up problematic files and submit them. Meanwhile, thanks for investigating these.
  10. That's my experience. The difference in names is just because I took them at different times, trying whether or not it would behave differently with one and two master pages... I alo tried renaming them at one point. I should have thought this would create confusion, sorry. I almost didn't do anything with this document, it's almost empty. I just created a cover page with a linked picture and a title, then a master page with two text frames, and finally created a double page and applied that master to it. It was at this point I realized the page was way bigger than it should be. To say the truth, I am encountering a lot of glitches with master pages generally (having to do with editing detached mostly), but they're hard to reproduce and I'm never sure whether it's a single issue or several stringed together. I'll try to be more thorough and report those as well in the future.
  11. Is this new for you ? I can't create an A5 document now but I could a few weeks ago. Is this human error ? I'm questioning every click now
  12. Thanks, but this is was not my question ? I know facing means two pages, that is what I intended to create : two pages, each one A5, that together make up an A4. The issue is the spread size changes after creation, or rather it's created with the wrong size in the first place : 296*420mm is A3 !
  13. Hi all, seems like I'm stumbling on problem upon problem today. When I create a new 148*210mm master spread, it ends up creating a 296*420mm spread. See attached images, first is the "new spread" dialog box, second is the "spread properties" dialog box of the newly created spread. What is happening...? Any help will be most appreciated. Hadrien edit changing "page preset" back to A5 does not change it. When I click ok and open the spread properties again, it's back to "custom" and dimensions are unchanged. Here's the file : guide_pv_002.afpub
  14. Hi all, is there any news on this ? I also have long tables that I would like to have flow between pages (they're too long for a single page). As soon as I reached the end of the page it was on, and pasted in some more text from my source document, the table disappeared. It's still there... but invisible and sort of locked, as if it were part of the master page, but it's not :it's been pasted inline in the text frame from of the master page.
  15. Thank you so much for your help ! I don't really understand what is happening : my paragraph style has no outdent... and I thought the settings in the paragraph panel reflected those from the style ? Are they some kind of override that's applied on top of the style ? @Ray S. is that what they are, overrides ? (edited because I misunderstood your reply)
  16. Sure, I should have done that from the start ! Here it is. guide_table_alignment_problem.afpub
  17. Hi all, this is probably just me not knowing my way around tables yet. I can't seem to center text correctly in them ? Whichever text style I choose (and those have no indents or margins whatsoever), I end up with this (see attached capture). Both text and images are off-center by a few millimeters. I haven't found anything that could cause this in "table formats", or in "table". "Autofit column to contents" resizes the column but keeps this margin. Notice that it happens only on the right-hand-side, on both columns in my table : content aligns nicely to the left, touching the border of the table like it should. Any ideas ? Cheers, Hadrien
  18. Ah good idea ! Thanks a bunch for the example file, much appreciated. It's better automated than my previous attempt. A custom font is a clever idea but probably too much work for this specific job, plus I don't know much about font editing/creation... -I've dabbled with FontForge but it is super glitchy (by the way if you know an alternative I'm a taker).
  19. Here is what I used to have : It is all hand painted and has a little wiggliness to it. There's a "drop shadow" layer effect on top as well. I liked the look of it but it didn't play nice with the text flow, since every time the text changed ever so slightly I had to reposition it below the chapter text by hand, and this defeats the purpose of using a publishing program. I wish style decorations were a little more fleshed out so I could use my own image in place of the outline and fill settings in there.
  20. Thanks for the tip @Lagarto ! I didn't think of using several decorations to achieve this. Unfortunately there are no blending modes as with layers, so the circle is not being clipped by the other rectangular blue style... do you know if by any chance there's a way to use an actual image as decoration for a paragraph style ?
  21. Hi everybody, I've learned a lot recently about publishing, and although there is plenty I don't know yet, I feel like my layout is becoming more and more orthodox, so to say. It all flows nicely, pictures and text hand in hand, I made pretty styles for my chapter headings, and the few hiccups I've encountered so far have been solved by you guys, of this I am very thankful. Here I am trying to change a paragraph style's decoration settings to "gradient" and place the gradient where I want, just as I would do with a gradient on a regular shape, such as a rectangle. It works with the default linear gradient, but I'd like something fancier and change it to an elliptical gradient. However the buttons in the color popover only allow for changing gradient stops and color/opacity settings, but not the actual origin and direction of the gradient... I've tried using the fill tool, but it only seems to operate on the actual text, rather than the text style decoration, no matter which mode I set in the tool settings above. This is not a vital matter at all, but I would appreciate any help. I feel like I'm overlooking something. Cheers, Hadrien _______________________ Here's the heading in question. The decoration is a fill that takes up the entire column width, with a linear gradient going from brown to blue (I didn't find how to change interpolation between gradient stops, so I just added two of them very close together). What I'd like to do is have the brown/blue separation be somewhat curvy, hence the elliptical gradient.
  22. Hi @MEB, thank you I was not aware of this function ! From quick testing, it seems like I can override visibility, as well as insert layers anywhere in the stack -but not override layer transforms (position, rotation, scale). Instead when I transform layers while in "edit detached", my changes propagate back to the master page. Well, that's great already ! I think I can live without transform overrides. @prophet's workaround is not necessary anymore (although precious to know it can be done!). Thanks again !
  23. I see. The problem seems to be that the layer structure in master pages is fixed, as in nothing can be inserted in between any two layers that come from a master page. Generally, master pages are the solution to making a change in one place and see it propagate in all pages where that master page is present/applied (which is the same concept as file referencing in Maya or linking in Blender) but what's lacking here (at least in my use case) is the ability to make overrides to the layer structure of the master page : rearrange layer order, insert other objects in-between, toggle visibility and other properties, and so on. I consider my issue fixed, thanks a lot ! Hadrien
