  2. Open the Designer file in Publisher, use the Textframe Studio Panel to remove the fill. After that go to menu file and choose Edit in Designer.
  3. I saw this email yesterday and unsubscribed. They knew there would be blow back here, and a lot of pissed off users. In the end there really aren't any promises that we can count on. This latest post should have been with the first post. I just reactivated my creative suite account. The whole reason why I switched was Affinity was not adobe and have a great product that does 99% of what I need it for. To be fair I've never heard of Canva, I live in a bubble, just a dude in the woods making graphics. I dont care what they have promised, its all the same nonsense Ive heard before. done with this company and whoever bought them. Adios.
  4. I wouldn't go back that far, Paulie. Just download 2.4.0, or perhaps 2.3.1, from https://affinity.store/update/windows/photo/2 and install it. Make sure you pick the correct version of the installer for your current setup, either the default MSIX or the optional EXE.
  5. I don't think you can update from 2.0.4 to 2.4.1 using the automatic install from within the program. That's too big a jump. I would download the program manually, from //https://affinity.store/update/windows/designer/2 Then run the installer manually. If it doesn't work, you could uninstall the current program first, but I think it will work without doing that.
  6. I have been a Serif customer since 2001, when I retired. As Affinity came on line I added each application on Windows and Ipad. I have even visited the Nottingham office and was helped in a promotional project by Serif. It has been a fun ride so far, and I wish all the team success in the new venture. For years a Data Asset Manager (DAM) has been "just around the corner". In desparation I went to Daminion a DAM that accepted Affinity formats, even though it did not support them. Despite that I have found them very helpful. However, a couple of years ago they switched to a subscription model for professional users, but retained a Lite version for happy amateurs like me. That sounds like a good fit into the new regime? And in the latest release, Daminion now formally supports Affinity file formats. I now have 4 catalogs on Daminion the largest of which contains 30k images. There is a developing face recognition suite, but I have not installed it as I have no need for it.
  7. I must admit that (going on reports linked to in this thread) I got it wrong! I had always thought that when Serif was bought back (from the American company that purchased it,) the new owners had real faith and interest in the company and it's products. It would now appear that they were just a couple opportunists who saw a good business deal and, having now made a "made a killing", couldn't care less what happens to the company. I honestly think that Ash and the rest of the staff are being as honest and positive as they can be, but I am still very concerned about just how much control "Serif" will now have over it's own future. Businessmen (like politicians) make all sorts of promises, then "circumstances change" or there are "outside forces, over which they have no control", so they backtrack or even do a complete reversal of what they had promised! (As we have already seen!) I really hope Canva do have a genuine interest in the future of Affinity, but once they "float" and have public shareholders, who are only interested in dividends, (rather than the shares belonging to owners/management who have some real involvement in the company,) nothing is certain. I do hope for the best, and I have no intention of deserting Affinity at the moment. Having said that, I won't be investing any more cash in addons etc, and I will be checking out possible alternatives to Affinity (I'm a bit of a "belt and braces" person!), until I see exactly which way the wind is blowing!
  8. Hey @xrybak, That's really great to hear... I think the issue may be DSC04866.jpg (but could be wrong) so you could try removing just that one image to see if the file still opens and if it does then delete that image from page 34 and place it again from scratch...
  9. This has been discussed before, as it seems to be a known bug. The solutions given do not work on V2 of Designer, or V2 Photo. The Problem: When I create a text frame, or enter text from the Artistic Text tool, the text frame background is solid white, and I just cannot seem to get rid of it. I think this may have happened when I opened a photo document in Publisher, to flow the text around a shape - then reopened it in photo. I simply cannot turn the text frame background back to transparent. The closest I have come is to follow the advice in the link = go to designer, make a path, put text on the path and look for the text frame icon on the context toolbar. However, clicking on this does nothing (as far as I can tell). Can anyone help? As all text I now enter, on Designer and Photo comes with a white text frame background - even on new documents - and it is driving me nuts! Here is a like to the previous discussion on this forum.
  10. Good suggestion! I use the app CrossOver on my Macs to run “old” Windows application (can’t install Win on another drive because I have Apple Silicon CPU:s on my Macs)… CrossOver is fantastic - I can run so many Win-apps not present on Mac platform - Xara as an example - also many special utilities that I need. Nice to avoid a real Windows computer and just stick to Macbook Pro, iMac and fabulous big iPads… https://www.codeweavers.com/crossover/
  11. Hey Hangman, Thank you so much for your help. I have moved the picture folder and now the file can be opened again. Thank you again.👍
  12. If you purchased within the last 14 days then you should be covered by Serif's refund policy, and could contact affinityreturns@serif.com and discuss it with them.
  13. 32-bit depth is 32 bits for the entire color information of one pixel, while RGB-32 is 32 bits for one color component, i.e. a total of 128 bits for the color of one pixel. Just curious, if you change your document to RGB-8, how big will the file be?
  14. Also the file recovery interval does not work. I set it to 30 seconds, but after it crashes it goes back almost 5-10 minutes.
  16. I noticed that many people write about the fighting with maintaining old programs. They write about compatibility modes, about old systems and even about dedicated machines not maintained for decades! I wonder why nobody uses virtualization? Personally, I have Linux as the main system, but all older programs, as well as Affinity, I run on VMware Workstation, losing capacity maybe 5%. And as the main computer has a strong processor with 24 cores and a lot of RAM, in practice I completely do not feel a slowdown. But the advantage is that such a virtual is portable to a new computer (it's just a few files!) and ready to run immediately. In addition the system, in this virtual machine, can be cut off from the Internet, without anti-virus and updates: fast, clean and safe. It maintains communication with the local network and resources, e.g. with NAS. In this way, you can have any "frozen" application for any long time. Including, for example, the active AD 2.0 license, even when the servers are turned off. I recommend!
  17. No offence and we're probably thinking the same, but I don't agree exactly. It's not 'Never say never'. Speaking out loud what your principles as a company are I think is a good thing. It's keeping these principles and promises and have some spine in your back that's what's strongly failing here. Simple as that. If you are so lame to just leave your own principles out of pure greed, while betraying the user base that helped you be in this position, you're worth nothing and don't even get where you were coming from. Which is bad. It's disrespectful to say the least. People and companies like me trusted this company and feel betrayed, because we are. Not because the company said their principles out loud (used as marketing when they needed us because that's what attracted their clients in the first place), but because the company left these own principles in a blink of the eye when the money came. Total lack of integrity and spine. And also lack of long term business sense and even a sense of understanding what is the reason for existance of this product range and your user base.
  18. Ever since I upgraded to 2.4.1, I have been experiencing crashes at odd times. I have been furious since yesterday. Please tell me how I can go back to 2.4.0.
  19. Thanks for your solid input Alfred - helped me to get my brain into gear😂
  20. If you only used Edit Detached, it should not have affected the page numbering. Are you sure you didn't actually Clear the Master Page.
  21. Hi @PeterB., Very strange, the instructions mirror how the files were created... I'm trying to think what could be different other than the version of macOS... If you get to try this again later let us know how you get on... hopefully, @Callum can test as well using both the sample files and by following the instructions from scratch to see the outcome...

  23. No. I'm not sure what kind of verification/validation it does during that stage.
